    If you won't sign big time FAs (or even second tier ones like Bassit)....and you keep trading prospects, how do you plan to have long term, sustained, success without prospects because you keep trading them instead of spending money.

    They can compete for the second tier players. Unfortunately, most of those are now gone also....while they waited on CC? I'm not sure what the deal is. They also passed on the second tier of FAs last year, so maybe it isn't about CC....but signing only inexpensive players in FA, then dealing prospects every spring (they are going to run out of prospects if this is the plan).

    That's my point.....wouldn't you rather have CC and three rookies?

    Agreed....but they didn't. They passed on nearly every guy in the second tier of FA.

    So, gut the fam system more to trade for players instead of signing FAs just for money? That will leave how many good to great prospects in the system? Not enough to build a long term, sustainable, winning team. CC cost a lot.....but the alternative ways to spend that money are to sign 2 ok to good FAs or 3 bad FAs. And that's at current year prices.....that 29MM is going to get you one or maybe two ok FAs by the end of that deal. Oh, and they passed on every FA in the next tier as well.....so, now what is left? How many FAs left are really better than what is on the roster?

    any year apparently, not to a long term deal. And, they passed on all the ST deals this year for great players.....

    Shocker. Truly shocking the Twins aren't signing one elite FA. Onto the next level (most of whom are gone), then to level three FAs....yay! You can have CC for ten years (5-7 good ones and 3-5 ok ones and nothing in years 11-13) and no good FA in year 11=13....or you can have three ok to bad FAs. Which would you rather have? Because 35MM a year is three ok to bad FAs right now, and likely one good to great FA in 11 years.....I know what I'd rather have. Because ok FAs aren't much better than the guys in the minors....

    Well, if you figure that the contract adds no value in years 11-13....you are giving up one average FA in those years....would you rather have CC for 10 years and lose out on a Gray level FA for years 11-13.....or have three mediocre to ok FAs for the next 13 years.

    Would you rather have ten good to elite years of CC and not signing a Gray level free agent in years 11-13 .....or have two or three second and third tier free agents every year? This appears to be your choices if you won't sign elite players.

    Arraez was at his worst in September when the Twins lost the division.....but you love him and hate CC due to when they hit?

    I think we are looking at a player that will put up an average of 3 fWAR per year for the next 5-7 years. What is that worth to everyone? Some years around 4, and some around 2.5. Fangraphs predicted 6/140+, and they've been low on every elite player so far......

    At some point you have to trust yourself to draft and develop.......I share your concern on Lewis, and wonder if Lee is a 3B.....but you can't live in fear.

    I agree 100%. Though I'd cut Donaldson before he could fly here.

    Less than Turner got. That wasn't realistic at all. Just like Darvish a few years ago wasn't realistic.

    Signing CC isn't about going all in for this year....he is likely to be elite for 5-7 years......

    You are trading the certainty of the present, to give up one average FA in years 11-13......because that's what an average FA will cost then. What's more likely, that CC is great for 5-7 years with some value in the next three, or that one average FA will matter to the Twins in years 11, 12, and 13?

    There is one FA SP that is an ace. he wants 7/210....... There are zero aces available in trade. I get it, I do. But where are you getting an ace?

    Or, sign Swanson and deal one of those guys for pitching (not that I love Dansby, to be clear). Or, put Lewis in LF/CF (when Buck is hurt) and Lee at 3B and Miranda at DH/2B/1B. Lots of options here.....
