    If they trade six years of SWR for two of Lopez, they should be fired. People do realize they need to keep prospects right? They won't sign long term deals, so the only way to have players is to keep prospects. They should not deal anyone, in a realistic trade, for only two years of a player at this point. I'm flabbergasted at all these trade suggestions for guys with limited control.

    Who? Who are your extending? And, that only goes so far. Putting aside CC, they haven't signed anyone other than Donaldson to real money for more than one year. Not even second tier players, let alone elite players. The money not spent there goes to the owners. It's not like they have a budget, and if they don't spend it give it as bonuses to staff, or save it for next year. They keep it. Need more yachts.

    This. 100% this. Let's not pretend they've signed more than one big time deal for more than one year, and they traded that guy after two years. There was zero chance he takes that offer. Just like Darvish a few years ago.

    They also didn't sign any of the top FA starting pitchers last year, in a record year for that opportunity. Nor did they sign one this year. Not spending money just puts it in the owner's pocket. They have one long term deal for real money, and they traded that guy after two years. In the history of the team.

    You either sign an elite player, or several not so great players.....They are literally signing Joey Gallo to 11 MM for one year. One year. How that fixes anything, I have no idea. Again, the dead money isn't an issue, that's all about spreading out the pain. You are giving up one average FA for three years. I'm willing to do that to get an elite player (which they passed on last year and this year, and will likely again next year - they don't even sign the next tier down either).

    It's the market. Or, the money can go to the owners......that's the option. Because the teams not signing elite players aren't signing the next tier either.

    If you walk into a car dealer, and offer ten percent under sticker, is it a real offer? The alternative appears to be two Joey Gallo types....

    By the last three years, you are giving up an average free agent to get an elite player in his prime. I'd do that all day

    I'm not counting on it working. I'm also not giving up prospects in case it doesn't work. That's what I'm saying. Just how many prospects cam a low spending team give up?

    At this level, I think people are over thinking taxes as an issue. I think guys want the biggest gross number when we are talking over 200 million. I really think people here over complicate this stuff.
