  1. I'm a fan,, but giving examples of similar pitchers from twenty or more years ago doesn't work for me. Hitters are so much better at crushing the ball now. I think he's a number four starter, until he gets one plus pitch. That might be enough to get him to a good number three, because the rest of his stuff is good, if not yet elite. He's 22, and has a real chance to get better.
  2. Imagine if Philly had taken him ..... Literally the only player outside Darrisaw I care if they keep.
  3. Contrary to myth, hope and dreams are healthy. Those are different than expectations.....I too hope he's great!
  4. Agreed. Those looking for next year are very likely to be disappointed.
  5. Literally in the top ten by every rating agency. Are they all twins fans? This is the kind of chance a team should take. A player with great talent that fell in the draft due to injury.
  6. Which MLB player should have tried to steal more last year? Or, most people are reading what others say, and going off that and it isn't "shiny new toy syndrome" whatever that is.
  7. Not to mention hitting is down across the leagues since Polanco was that age......
  8. Counterpoint..... By the logic some of you use, you would have ranked Bryce Harper low his first year, because he hadn't proven anything yet..... I agree that production matters, but it matters a lot less to a guy with one year of minor league at bats than a 25 year old with years of data. This ranking is consistent with national sites, who actually see guys play. Seems reasonable.
  9. Players that have exceptional years often revert to their normal performance. That is the main source of the belief in a sophomore slump.....people see someone that had a great year have a very good or average year. NO one talks about the players that take a step up getting a sophomore boost.....
  10. Oh, ya, I'm blatantly stealing your idea here.
  11. If I was the GM (thankfully for all, I am not)....I'd not extend one starter, and use that money to sign Nola (if he's still a FA). Nola, Ryan, Lopez, Ober, Winder, Varland, SWR, et. al. looks like a pretty good rotation to me.
  12. at some point, you have to play young, unproven, players. Imagine the articles here when Koskie first came up......
  13. At least half the articles now. It's so, something.
  14. I think people in this thread are replying to the idea he faced top pitching in the AFL, which the article implied, but isn't close to true. I think people, most of them, are tempering their excitement given that. Some clearly aren't believers, but some are.
  15. Not according to half the articles on this site. If the player isn't perfect, its just too risky. Also, if they don't develop players and play them, they are stupid. So, um, good luck?
  16. The article literally called him a number three starter, and you read he can't pitch?
  17. Those stats would make him a borderline number two starter.... I'm a believer. I think he's a legit number three, four, starter right now. He'll be in the rotation full time next year.
  18. He could play left field defensively with no issue. Probably only needs a few weeks at second base. He'd be a good center fielder. I am not sure I understand your post
  19. If it were true that the Jays never trade good prospects, no one would trade with them. Ever.
  20. Phew. I couldn't handle another few days of over wrought angst on the main Vikings site I go to.....
  21. Farmer is the backup SS this year.....I admit not knowing who it is after that. I think any of Lewis/Lee/someone else could play there 20-40 games a year if needed, even if their primary position was elsewhere. I'd guess, not knowing, they would be like Polanco was defensively, fine given their O. I think Lewis should be in CF and RF going forward (as I think Lee is your 3B going forward). I'd put Martin in LF/CF/2B. I'd put Julien at 2B/1B, I think. Given Martin's speed, it would be great to have him around for the 10th inning.....
