  1. Cousins not looking too bad in the second half. The Vikes are manhandling a very good team here. Now Convert a TD
  2. true, and a guy like Cook would open it up even more
  3. Huge play by Addison! What the hell Cousins. Basically Cassel, Keenum, any other half decent QB can lead a 2-minute drive better than Cousins did there. yes very entertaining
  4. Let’s say Correa was a free agent this offseason. Would people want to sign him going forward for 5/167?
  5. Gray was great. I have no strong opinion on the trade to share, except that the model the Twins are using to acquire pitching is unsustainable, in my opinion. The Twins broke camp in 2023 with a starting rotation acquired wholly through trades. Would you rather have Lopez, Gray, Ryan, Mahle and Maeda, or would you rather have Graterol, Petty, Steer, CES, Hajjar, and Arraez? I think with the Lopez extension, and as long as he stays healthy, they come out ahead on that grand bargain. However, the presence of a pitching pipeline would have allowed for the Twins to keep some of those prospects and fill one more of those rotation pieces in-house. Sonny Gray was great and the Twins advanced to the division round once in his two years, and Chase Petty would be the Twins 3rd rated prospect behind Jenkins and Lee heading into 2024. Was that a bargain you would have made two years ago?
  6. Thanks, Brock. I think this is a good idea, with caveats. I would worry about emotions subbing for content. Stuff like “Walkler Jenkins,is teh greatest p;ropect the Twins in like Forever!!1” Speaking for myself, I would probably go back to just Google to look for info, if I went to a player’s wiki page and ran into that. So that is over the top, but then there is the more subtle stuff, which I admit I can be guilty of doing. I have said some things in the discussion forums that maybe have not crossed the line, but that I would not want to say as a contributor to a wiki. The lesser known stuff would be fun to explore and have access to in one place, as long as it’s been previously published or broadcast or comes from a good source. There is a lot of stuff you hear on the radio that is hearsay, and borderline, but also super interesting (thinking of how certain players have spent their offseasons). So that gets sticky. Wikipedia requires sourcing and citations for the more obscure stuff. As a reader of a wiki page, I would want those sources. And I’m sure unfavorable personal stuff is off limits, unless maybe it’s been published already (thinking of Puckett). But I think it’s that lesser, obscure stuff you would want in order to differentiate yourself from the usual stuff or Wikipedia pages that already exist? Not sure want you have in mind exactly, but it’s got my interest. Keep us posted.
  7. We have heard for years that low revenues from televising games has restricted the Twins ability to sign high price free agents. Maybe this is finally the year the Twins negotiate a smart deal for themselves.
  8. I’ll just say Rocco is the fourth best manager in that Tweet you posted
  9. I mean, separate from the whole Gallo debate, Gallo was the only other logical pick to play first base besides Solano.
  10. Rocco did okay for these two series. In my opinion, his negative marks had more to do with roster decisions and game planning, than actual game situations. I thought they would have Funderburk active for the both series, and Gallo should have been the injury callup in Game 4 instead of Buxton. Otherwise, I think Houston just beat us Fair and square.
  11. She should trade Arraez over to Boston really quick 🤣
  12. The move to put Buxton on the roster before Game 4 and then put him in the game in a big spot would be a good way to test our theories about how the front office and the manager come to decisions. Unfortunately we are not privy to the discussions they had.
  13. I think it's complicated. You did not mention Buxton - I wonder if the Buxton saga might have overshadowed the postseason wins. In short, I think it was a win for fans, because that feeling at Target Field was electric. But in all honesty, I don't think the Twins are any closer to being a serious contender for anything, if I can use that phrase.
  14. I think there are a couple of Twins minor leaguers who can reach 98mph. I don’t know if they were the ones throwing the live BP to Buxton, or when that even happened. Buxton has preferred the batting cages, remember. I think we are both Twins fans but maybe watch the game differently. I don’t think Buxton was ready to go Wednesday and I think there is a lot more to this than meets the eye. Thank you for being a Twins Daily caretaker.
  15. Oh ok , I think this is in response to people who say the front office makes all the calls about the game in advance. Yeah I don’t agree with that, it has to be Baldelli. Thanks.
  16. I guess I read Tingler’s remarks at 9:30 as: the front office generates reams of data, and then leaves it for Rocco to sort out and make the calls. What am I missing?
  17. Likewise, it is refreshing to hear someone simply call it a “good pitching staff” and leave it at that, without all the extra stuff.
  18. See, that’s what I wondered about Royce Lewis when Lewis went back into the field for Game 3 and made those terrible swings, but I was told ‘No’ that Lewis’s legs were fine. I could only follow that game online at work anyway. I will assume Baldelli and coaches watched Buxton swing prior to putting him into Game 4, but that their observation tools or their ‘eye test’ to evaluate his swings and judge him fit for game duty failed them. For his preparation, I wonder if Buxton faced live throwers throwing all out, or just BP throwers, or the even just the pitching machine. There is so much to dig into here, so many questions. If people aren’t curious about this kind of stuff, it’s going to manifest again somehow, and will preclude the Twins from making better decisions or getting any better on the field, or beating a solid team like Houston in the postseason and going any further. Thank you for your contributions to this site!
  19. First base is not the worst idea. However, Buxton needs to want that, and unfortunately no one really knows what Buxton wants except Buxton, and probably not even him. But since he had this new procedure we can wait until he is cleared from that, and give him the offseason to think about it and heal. I also think Julien is an internal candidate for first base worth trying out.
  20. “Best Twins team in 30 years” be better, TD I would put the 2017 and 2019 teams as better or more cohesive, having a better chance at a long postseason run (yeah I know those teams did not advance, don’t bother) So, I think this was more like the 3rd best team in this front office’s 7-year tenure. One thing this 2023 team had was a 1-2 punch in the starting rotation. I will give them that. Lopez won me over in the end. As far as the everyday lineup, I cannot rate the 2023 team in the top ten of the last 30 years. I would rate most of the lineups of the 2000s decade as better. I liked the Eddie Rosario lineups of 2017 and 2019. The 2015 team was young and exciting. The early 90s lineups were still halfway competitive for a few years after ‘91. The 2023 team was more like the 10th to 15th best team of the past 30 years, in my opinion. The one thing the 2023 team did was rekindle those winning feelings in the postseason, which does count for something.
  21. Why, because Christian Vazquez snuck into the photo there on the left? 🤣
  22. Those teams also have recent World Series victories in their back pockets. I know the point is not to put down those great teams, but more to highlight the sometimes arbitrary nature of which teams survive and advance. The margins are indeed thin in the postseason. The Dodgers, Philly, and Atlanta are still the class of the NL and only one can make it to the finish. Houston is clearly the class of the American League, and I expect the Yankees to return to prominence next year again too. The Twins should be competitive again as well.
  23. Adding Buxton to the roster after Kirilloff’s injury was the wrong call. The right call would have been to add Gallo. As it was, Solano was left as the only player who could play first base. Also, Rocco gave in to the temptation to put Buxton into a game before he was ready, and that was a tough spot. I would have left Taylor in. Pinch hitting for Taylor meant the outfield defense was downgraded the next inning. Wallner would have been a better pinch hit option, or in that situation, maybe even Gallo.
