  1. Radio guys Gladden & Provus agreed that he looked safe at game speed. And those guys are always right. About everything.
  2. Happy birthday Jorge Polanco - just turned 21 today! Polanco had a productive week back in A+. Since his return from MLB he has hit .350/.435/.600 (if I got those right). It made sense to send him back to Fort Myers for a few games, a short debriefing with the coaches and a chance to shake hands with his old teammates before moving on to New Britain. Obviously I don't know what's best for this guy but I wouldn't mind seeing him get the opportunity to move through the system back to the majors within a couple years.
  3. With NY, Boston and Tampa Bay all having down years, there might be no better time for Baltimore to "go for it" this year.
  4. Nice catch. Oakland is amazing.
  5. I can't argue with you folks on evaluations, since I've never spoken to or laid eyes on most or any of these guys. If our system is as strong as people say, I wouldn't worry about upside at catcher. Would a good idea for next year be to let Pinto and Herrmann just split time and see who emerges? They are no longer prospect age.
  6. There is hope. For people who just enjoy the game, enjoy cheering them on to wins, the other Yankee starters have been horrible. These next games are winnable. Seattle is our next opponent and nothing special. Colorado cannot pitch. We could still be within a handful of games of .500 by the All Star break and then we have a favorable home stand starting that following Friday after the break.
  7. Suzuki just popped out to Suzuki. So confused.
  8. Yup. Kevin Correia (of all people) has been picking up the slack.
  9. You make a point though. Other yankee starters not named Tanaka are struggling right now.
  10. there's a Suzuki on each team... So confused...
  11. Like I've said, if you've never played 6th dimensional chess, you have no right to question it.
  12. I guess the Mitch Hedberg quotes don't work when I do them...
  13. Dozier, Perkins, Plouffe-- I think you are on the right track. Sell all the usual names, and then maybe one of those guys too, who might actually bring something in return. The Twins system looks to have middle infield depth. I'd personally keep Perk though.
  14. With such different high/low hitting profiles, would you want to bat Dozier and Parmelee next to each other in the lineup? Would a starting pitcher be more mistake prone in that instance?
  15. I agree with you on the health of the pitching staff. We joke about the 100 pitch magic number but hey, our guys stay healthy and are worked the right amount. Also, nobody predicted this nice run from Correia. The Nunez situation is an argument for another time but I think you are right about Mauer ending up on the DL sooner or later, so why not just do it now. But swinging a bat… why, Joe, why?
  16. I think guys like Morales, Drew, Oswalt, have honestly lost touch with reality and their good fortune for being pro baseball players when they start turning down reasonable contract offers (reasonable, like, you know, multimillions of $$$ for a single summer) and then go into a season without a contract. Speaking of Morales, he never really excited me. I'd trade him or let him walk. Give the at bats to young guys next year. So what if his numbers are down this year because he missed spring training or doesn't have many at bats yet. That's his fault alone, per article.
  17. I like the idea of a Parmelee/Colabello platoon at first. Gardy's been trying to get Parms into the lineup while still DHing Morales and playing Arcia, here's our chance. I wonder if the Twins shouldn't have waited to DL Mauer. Something about the optics of your All Star Ambassador to Minnesota getting injured by swinging a baseball bat. When we prematurely DL'ed Nunez, the end result was Florimon got to start at SS after Santana got hurt.
  18. I would say Colabello has a nice story, even if it's not exactly a rags to riches story. Not sure of Parmelee though. Albers had a good story. Perkins has a great story considering he is borderline elite at his job. I think Dick and Bert have a unique brand of homerism that is grating but most broadcast teams are homers I bet. Hard to keep saying positive things when the product has been so underwhelming for so long. So they will continue to fumble around with story lines until the team starts to win. What did Dick and Bert say about Joe?
  19. I thought this had been settled too. I thought Escobar won the job. This team is not good enough to have rotating defenders at their most important positions and still pretend to be a post season team. Unless they consider Escobar to have passed his audition and now want to give Nunez and Santana extended playing time there.
  20. Ok thanks. Joe speaks for himself obviously, but I'd bet a majority of players are feeling sore or achy by this point in the season.
  21. Anyone seen Escobar? I thought he won the shortstop job.
