    Berrios will be fine. Another way to frame it is I think Toronto still does that trade 10 times out of 10, with the talent they have the next few years, and their window. Exactly the kind of trade the Twins would benefit from, in my opinion. It’s just too bad for Toronto that the Yankees are off to such a a torrid start this season.

    Duran came in the 6th to face the top of the Detroit order. For those scoring at home, that means the top of the Detroit order would have also come up in the 9th (or 8th). So while there’s an argument to be made for using Duran while the game is close, there’s also the argument for saving Duran again for the higher leverage innings at the end. A one-run lead in the 8th is higher leverage than a one-run lead in the sixth. But anyway. Let’s all throw our support behind Chai Chai Gonzo-LAY (WKRP reference) getting the start tomorrow in Toronto. go Twins!

    How far can they go? Two playoff games plus three quarters of the third game, is about all, unfortunately. I feel bad for you all who are diehard Wolves fans. You don’t deserve the same crap that Vikings and Twins fans endure year after year.

    Also, I guess I was looking forward to Alex Meyer and José Berríos off the top of my head but yeah the pitching pipeline has been extremely thin the past 10 or 5 years if that’s what you mean by most exciting in history.

    I love Sano but my epiphany on him came a few years ago, in a plate appearance against Chris Archer in fact. All of us had already seen the same streaky Sano by that time, either locked in or zoned out. Sano was in one of his slumps, and Archer worked him to 1-2, then 2-2. Then I thought “yup, here comes the high outside fastball waste pitch, followed by slider low and away on 3-2, for swing and a miss,” and... that’s what happened. I’ve only seen one game so far this season but I assume Sano still hasn’t changed much, otherwise this thread wouldn’t be here. I think Sano is fine, there’s nothing really “wrong” with him, but he just doesn’t see the pitch out of the pitcher’s hand as well as the average MLB-er. So it takes Sano that extra moment to recognize the spin, get his body in motion, and by that time, it’s too late. So, knowing all of this, he makes up his mind to swing a tiny bit earlier than he should (also accounting for all the check swings we have seen over the years). Anyway that’s just one idea.

    Just to fill in more context: Duran threw 115 innings in 2019 as a minor league starter (about 5 innings per start), he threw an unknown number of simulated innings in 2020, and was down to only 16 innings at triple A in 2021. Have the Twins announced an innings limit for Duran for 2022? Seems like there will be one, granted, not all innings are alike. Is 50 to 70 a good guess? That’s a light but okay number of innings for a typical big league reliever over a full season. As a starter, 50-70 innings won’t get you to the All Star break unless the starts were very short. The big league bullpen seems like the right place for Duran. I don’t see the point of shipping Duran to AAA right away.

    Well you were right they did trade Donaldson! i really thought Kiner-Falefa was going to be the full time short stop for the next year or two until Royce Lewis was ready for his chance, or Martin. There was some logic to that move to acquire him. But now Kiner-Falefa gets traded right away again to the Yankees. So What do I know?

    Indeed, if the Twins front office carried a player on the big league roster for ten years but never put them in a game, you might find a way to praise them for smart roster management! The rest of your post is the usual pro-owner, anti-player stuff, and we’ve all went circles on this so many times, and few of us have any desire to engage anymore.

    One of my favorite players as a kid - and I don’t know why. maybe I was at the game he homered off of Palmer? My father liked to take me to games when the Twins were facing great pitchers. I have distinct memories of seeing (or being at) Fidrych and Nolan Ryan game at the Met, and seeing a lot of Dave Goltz games. Hosken Powell also homered off of Fergie Jenkins his rookie season! (had to dig through the game logs for that one)
