  1. Woods-Richardson was just barely under 1 year of service time last year. He's controllable until 2030 and there really aren't any further benefits because he'll run out of options after this season.
  2. It's worth noting that Simeon Woods-Richardson is younger than Zebby Matthews and David Festa. If those guys can learn and improve, so can Woods-Richardson.
  3. Hands up if you thought the team with a .370 winning percentage would immediately reel off the 2nd longest winning streak in the history of the franchise. Everyone with their hand up is a liar.
  4. I like this idea. Rose can go in after everyone who ever knew him is long dead and the historians are the only people left who care. Pete Rose, HOF 2130!
  5. Pete Rose is a sex offender, but I don't think he killed anyone.
  6. None come to mind. Pete Rose is the only Hall of Fame caliber player who ruined his career by violating the only rule that has a lifetime ban as a punishment. Pete Rose is a like a package of all the bad traits of every other sketchy candidate all rolled up into one person. I guess he wasn't an overt racist, so he has that going for him.
  7. He also placed bet as a player. See my link above.
  8. Still denying he bet on games while he played for the Reds. Still lying. BTW - Mark McGwire apologized and his support went from 25% to 0% overnight. The lesson I've learned is if you really want something in this world and don't care about anyone else, never admit fault, never accept responsibility and never apologize. You're much more likely to get what you want than if you admit what you did and say you're sorry. Forgiveness is a sucker's bet.
  9. The writers won't have any say on Pete Rose. He's only eligible for Era Committee voting. That means he has to get past the screeners who make the Era Committee ballot. Then 12 of the 16 committee members need to be convinced that he deserves one of the 3 votes they get to distribute among 8 players. They won't vote on Rose until December, 2027 at the earliest.
  10. That is a good place to start. He needs find a way to pitch that can reduce that split by >100 points. Usually, that means developing a changeup. The article mentions his fastball (24th percentile) and breaking (26th percentile) pitches, but his offspeed run value (2nd percentile) actually ranks the least effective on statcast. If he had a 25th percentile changeup he'd be an adequate innings-eating starter.
  11. Every game he didn't place a bet, he was signaling to the bookies that he thought his team would lose. I don't think he threw any games, but he certainly didn't have the same incentive to win that game. If he knows he's going to place a bet tomorrow, he's going to manage the team differently today when there isn't any money at stake. There are so many reasons not to honor Pete Rose with a spot in the Hall of Fame. Off the field, he's a pathological liar, a convicted felon, and a statutory rapist. On the field he corked his bat and probably used steroids. Oh, and he bet on baseball games as a player and as a manager.
  12. Why do I feel like Pete Rose is going to get inducted and Barry Bonds will still be on the outside looking in? Oh wait, I know why I feel like that. Nevermind.
  13. McCusker is better in the outfield. Bader and Buxton are both hurt. I have no expectations that McCusker will automatically do in the majors what he is doing in AAA. That would make him Teoscar Hernandez.
  14. McCusker is ahead of the pace Severino set in 2023. Severino 2023 SLG .546, ISO SLG 274, 1 XBH every 9.6 PA, 1 HR every 15 PA McCusker 2025 SLG .648, ISO SLG 312, 1 XBH every 7.4 PA, 1 HR every 14 PA McCusker is on a 40 HR / 40 2B pace.
  15. It's too bad he can't play catcher just a little bit better.
  16. Severino has never hit for power like McCusker is doing this season. McCusker will frustrate lots here with a ton of strikeouts but he'll hit the ball very, very hard when he makes contact. If France is out they'll need another bat. If Bader is out they need an outfielder.
