  1. If Alex Rios is in the bargain bin I wouldn't mind giving him a try. Better than Torii Hunter.
  2. He'd make a nice bench coach
  3. Milone for Buehrle in a salary dump challenge trade of lefties with poor velocity
  4. Goodrum projects as a utility guy. Might as well move him around the infield and sometimes the best way to learn a position is to play it every day for a while.
  5. Blocking? The Twins haven't had anyone as good as Buehrle since Santana left.
  6. I think due to age at signing that Polanco and Kepler get 4 option years. "I'm guessing that he had to be added for a reason, was he coming up on minor league free agency already? I felt that Polanco was added early last year, too"
  7. Removing Kepler from the roster would require them sending him through waivers and he would get picked up by somebody even if that team just wants to try to send him through waivers again.
  8. The Brewers have nothing at 1B. If they miss out on LaRoche they might be interested. I think Ryan can get something for Colabello even if it is just cash.
  9. I'm encouraged by Lovullo. Other organizations have been interested and interviewed him unlike the two internal candidates. If Lovullo impressed enough that the Twins organization is interested in an outsider then he's probably pretty good. All the other outside candidates were told "not interested" already.
  10. Mike Pelfrey is 30 and hasn't been good as a starter since 2010. I think he'll quickly realize that it's the bullpen or get out of baseball. I agree that he could do better in a bullpen role if he can dial up the fastball.
  11. I'm tired of the Twins pinching pennies by using AAAA talent. Arbitration salaries are generally a steal unless the player is awful and if the player is that bad they should be replaced regardless. If anything they should be looking to upgrade on their bench by spending more money. The Orioles are a good example of how a contingency plan can lead to wins.
  12. Turning away free agent talent this offseason might be regretted in June. There is a lot of room in AAA for young players with options. This team should look at all opportunities to improve and that includes free agent talent. The idea that the Twins should only look internally and consider Danny Ortiz and AJ Achter as real options seems ridiculous to me.
  13. Atlanta - same attendance, bad TV deal and $112M payroll in 2014. Arizona - same attendance, losing team and $112M payroll in 2014. Crying poor is garbage. They're $25M under what they could justify by their revenues. It seems pretty clear to me that the plan is to whine, lose and cash checks like the Cubs.
  14. I think they need to look outside the organization as well. Reliever performance is volatile. I don't trust anyone but Perkins for next season. Quantity is important.
  15. Giving Parmelee regular ABs is a waste of time. He's proven that.
  16. There is a lot of variation in future performance. A GM is going to have to make a lot of "bad bets" but really only needs to win more than half of them to justify making more bets. If you are too loss-averse and never want to lose a bet then in the long run you squander opportunity.
  17. I hadn't seen the comp of Jameson Taillon for Kohl Stewart before. Maybe I wasn't reading the right reports.
  18. Counterpoint http://misterirrelevant.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/cardboard-icons-jim-thome.jpg
  19. How good was Plouffe at playing 3B when he was 21?
  20. The Twins have managed to shift income from radio off the books by underselling their rights to a station owned by the same people. Who knows how many other ways they're using accounting shifts.
  21. Gardy didn't platoon because he was a player motivator first and foremost. He liked telling someone they were the starter rather than having two "bench" players. It also made his job easier to pencil someone into the same lineup spot every day. Making the manager's job easier is not a good reason to do something.
  22. Taylor Rogers is the next Brian Duensing. Upside is not high enough for the top 10.
  23. The Twins have managed to shed revenues fast enough to go from paying into the competitive balance fund when Target Field opened to receiving a draft pick this time around. I think that's more them standing still and everyone else continuing to grow.
