  1. None of those guys are worth a damn in the outfield. Why do you want another bad outfielder when you could have an average first baseman instead?
  2. No, you're looking at trading Plouffe for a real outfielder which is a lot better than watching Mauer gradually get slower in the outfield.
  3. Minor league costs have actually gone down wrt inflation after the latest CBA capped international bonuses and added a strict slot for draftees. The Twins need to ask themselves how much marginal revenue you make off an empty seat.
  4. Count me against moving Mauer anywhere else. I think 1B is the only position you can project him as even average defensively over the rest of his contract. There isn't another option at 1B who is a better defender either. If he's in the lineup he might as well be in the most suitable position defensively.
  5. Left out in the analysis is the two years of Shields were pretty expensive. They could have extended Ervin Santana or spent that money elsewhere. It isn't a strict talent-for-talent trade.
  6. I like the suggestion of Jose Oquendo. If you're going to steal from another organization why not the Cardinals organization?
  7. Is the Okie getting calls from the Rangers right now?
  8. They should spend the other $20M+ on Colby Rasmus and a pitcher to replace Nolasco of course. Andre Ethier is a slightly below average CF who is likely to rate well in LF. He is much, much better than the Kubel, Willingham, Colabello and Parmelee levels of poor defense the Twins have had lately. Ethier is definitely not a "poor" hitter. He's a really good hitter who had a bad year. The whole point here is to buy low. His down year was still better than any other outfielder on the Twins 2014 roster.
  9. The guy you want from LA is Andre Ethier. Shorter, cheaper contract (only 3 years left with a vesting option). Good defender coming off a down year and mostly benched at the end of the season. If you deal Ricky (I want to be in LA!!!!!) Nolasco for Ethier you only increase payroll by $5M a season. The other benched outfielder I'd like to see in a Twins uniform is Colby Rasmus. LF Ethier, CF Rasmus and RF Arcia is an outfield I could get excited about.
  10. A good way to approach it would be "We feel bad that you fell just short of the final innings pitched incentive and to make it up would like to offer you a two year $25M contract extension."
  11. Navaretto is going to be another year older at Betsy next year.
  12. Garver only 4 slots away from Navaretto? Results matter.
  13. There's the tipoff that this is a fantasy
  14. I dunno. Lohse really beat the hell out of the doorknob.
  15. I like Colby Rasmus for the Twins too. One issue with waiting for free agents is some of them will get an extension before they reach the market.
  16. Another year wasted on washed up has-beens won't inspire anyone to buy a ticket. Take a chance on players under 30 like Schafer instead.
  17. Speaking as someone who is 38, a lot.
  18. You have a hard time believing Torii isn't 28 anymore and instead is 38?
  19. Not a Pressly fan at all. He's shown nothing over 100 innings to suggest he's anything more than the last guy in the bullpen. Free Agent doesn't necessarily mean expensive. Burton was a free agent and a good acquisition. Fien was a free agent. They need to bring in some talent because what they have at AAA is not much more than filler. Burdi will be at AA and move quickly but I don't see Reed or Melotakis making it until much later.
  20. I'd like to see Perkins FA/trade FA/trade Fien Thielbar One of Tonkin/Oliveros One of Pelfrey/Milone Duensing, Swarzak and Burton are all below average and will cost a collective $8M to bring back. I think they can find two other better veteran arms for the same cost.
  21. He fills a niche as a late inning defensive replacement and pinch runner. In the playoffs a team needs more bench players and fewer pitchers though I think they can only use Florimon in the playoffs as an injury replacement.
  22. I agree that it is interesting. I can't decide if he'd fit well in a Twins clubhouse or not fit at all.
  23. Perkins doesn't have a big contract. He has a modest contract for a relief pitcher. Papelbon makes $13M a year. Perkins is getting $4.6M next year and $6.5M after that. Even if he declines slightly he will be useful for years as a lefthanded specialist. I wouldn't be surprised to see Perkins pitching for a long time to come. Lefties with closing experience get nine lives. Guardado got by on a lot less stuff.
  24. MLB Trade Rumors reporting that Melky is getting a qualifying offer...
  25. Derek Holland Jeremy Hellickson Scott Feldman Chris Sale (ha, good luck) Bartolo Colon Ian Kennedy Josh Collmenter John Niese Matt Garza
