  1. Polanco can barely play 2B now and his days at 3B and SS should be over.
  2. Brooks Lee is probably ahead of Helman as the second utility infielder, but Lee isn't much of an outfielder (too slow). The Twins will want Lee playing every day in MLB or AAA, but they'll be fine with letting Helman ride the bench like they were with Farmer. Kyle Farmer might be available on a minor league deal. The waiver wire is a good place to acquire utility players as we saw with Willi Castro. Will Holland is another internal possibility for a utility player. It is hard to tell if he took a huge step forward last season before he was injured or if it was just a small sample size mirage.
  3. This is true. They might as well say Yunior Severino can take his place or Diego Castillo or Aaron Sabato.
  4. The Twins need more players like Willi Castro - solid defender with speed on the bases. If they trade him, they will have zero players like Willi Castro and the biggest hole on the roster will be the need for players like Willi Castro.
  5. People have made baserunning mistakes for the past 150 years.
  6. The league hit .243. That isn't even that far below average.
  7. I think Kyle Farmer should have been #1 on the list. He was so bad his own grandmother was admonishing him.
  8. The lack of speed is hurting them on the basepaths and on defense.
  9. That was an expensive star for top prospects deal. They didn't trade him with 3 years of cost control remaining. I could see the Twins trading Ryan or Ober after the 2026 season. Since we're talking about the White Sox, Garrett Crochet is one of the few cheap ace pitchers who might be available in trade. Luis Robert is expensive but is actually a great fit for the Twins roster (RH hitting outfielder who can field). Adding those two players would be a blockbuster that could make the Twins a contender. The Twins would need to clear $15M and send one of their own big talents (Lewis, Lee, Jenkins, Rodriguez) in return. That's a gutsy trade, especially within the division. That's the kind of risk that gets someone fired if it doesn't work out.
  10. Does that happen? Do teams trade young, cheap pitching for other young, cheap pitching? Do you trust that the Twins would get the better end of the trade? The A's and Rays trade expensive for cheap. The Yankees and Dodgers trade for talent and don't worry about the cost. Challenge trades of my cheap starting pitcher for your cheap starting pitcher are really rare. Those are the trades that get one of the two general managers making the deal fired.
  11. Young players will be volatile as inevitable adjustments happen but the Tigers seem to have the depth to be able to overcome those adjustments.
  12. Unlikely. Teams don't send legit pitching prospects to the Arizona Fall League.
  13. Trading either would signal that they don't intend to compete for the next 3 seasons. If they trade either, then there are 15 other players on the roster who should be dealt.
  14. It's incredibly hard to find a catcher who can produce more than Jeffers. He would clearly be the best free agent on the market if he was non-tendered and would get a multiyear contract at more than $10M per season.
  15. They can promote Eeles and put Castro in the outfield. It isn't either/or.
  16. Can they afford him if they call him the starter at 2B? This team needs more players like Willi Castro on the team. He's a solid defender at LF, RF, 2B and 3B (all spots where the projected starter is a mediocre defender) and he's the only player in the lineup who can steal a base.
  17. Mediocre with an upside of effective is well worth $1.3M. That's what they paid for Jay Jackson last offseason. Topa even has options left so he can be stashed in AAA and not counted on as one of the 8 relievers on the roster.
  18. If I read that correctly, they will just pick up Alcala's club option. Everyone on the arbitration list is worth that salary if they're worth a roster spot. The only decisions are whether they want to keep Tonkin and Kirilloff around at all. Marco Raya is the only sure minor leaguer to add to the 40 man. I am going to guess that other organizations will have better players who they can't protect. The Twins should be making calls on those guys since they have room on the roster. Grab a guy who looks interesting as a Rule 5 pick and trade something for them so you can option them instead of keeping them on the roster all season.
  19. I think Prielipp is a reliever. I want him to go all out 70 innings a year in leveraged situations. I don't think his arm survives the physical demands of the rotation.
  20. I hear great things about many of the Twins players and their clubhouse intangibles but those intangibles didn't keep them from choking away a playoff spot at the end of the season.
  21. That would be true if the Twins had a unique situation but most MLB teams are going to see a cut in their local TV revenue. Relative to the competition in the AL Central it is no big deal.
  22. Agreed. Find a player with a good glove and put one of the others at DH. The defense needs an upgrade.
  23. Sure. Did you watch the week he had 12 hits in a row? Miranda's defense at 1B was comparable to Goldschmidt's in 2024. I'll bet on the player 10 years younger for 2025. Upgrade a different part of the roster.
  24. The trading team would have received one extra season of Duran so I'm sure you're right. I don't think Duran has lost much of his luster. His 2024 was really solid.
