  1. Waiting around for solid players to be left without a chair at the end of the offseason musical chairs is a really bad plan.
  2. First base is not their biggest problem. Miranda would be just fine if they can't get Santana to come back for the same money as last season. The big hole is at 2B or 3B, depending on where Royce Lewis is playing. If they decide to add a 1B I expect MIranda to move to 3B as the starter.
  3. I'm with you on Keaschall. There is no reason to lock up an average LF/1B with a pre-debut contract.
  4. I have a good feeling that Rodriguez can field his position and I don't for Keaschall.
  5. I agree with that. I have more hope that 3 months in AAA can get him to be a competent fielder at 1B than I do that any length of time will make him competent at 2B.
  6. My comment wasn't about Joe Ryan specifically, but in general. If you can extend a player for less than they're worth you should, even if you can replace them from within. If Joe Ryan was willing to take a 6-year deal that only paid him $10M a season in his 30s (he likely isn't) they should sign him.
  7. He's not competent at 2B. He needs to move off 2B because he's so far down that depth chart defensively that he won't play. If he can hit well enough to make up for his defense at 2B then he can hit well enough to be 1B/DH.
  8. There isn't enough depth for that on the roster. Julien and Lee both project as MLB starters. If they're in AAA then Martin and Helman are starters. There are only 16 position players on the 40 man roster. One is Camargo. That means you have to pick 13 from the remaining 15 players.
  9. They can't option all of Keirsey, Lee, Julien, Helman and Martin. Right now 4 of the 5 HAVE to make the team or they're playing with just 9 position players on the roster. Even if they decide to give a spot to Emmanuel Rodriguez (who should also probably earn it in AAA) they will need to use 3 of those 5. They need to add an outfielder and an infielder if they want to make people earn their way to the big leagues. Otherwise we will get scholarships for players who haven't earned it. There is also NO depth for the inevitable injuries. If the Twins end up with 3 position players on the IL (which happened in April last year) they will be forced to call up one of Eeles, McCusker or Severino. I know there are prospect fans that want to see all of these guys play, but that's a recipe for a repeat 4th place finish.
  10. To execute on this plan they need to add another OF/DH bat and another infielder. If Lee and Julien don't make the opening day roster they have Michael Helman and Austin Martin as opening day starters.
  11. I agree, which is why I am concerned that Julien is the opening day DH on the current depth chart.
  12. It's based on "I made it up because it supports my opinion"
  13. If you can buy an asset for less than market value you should. Trade the player later if you have to.
  14. If the Twins don't believe in Alcala he could be pretty good trade bait.
  15. With the risk of hijacking the thread, an article about whether to extend Jhoan Duran would be worth reading. He's only controlled until age 29 He's never made any big money either with a signing bonus or through arbitration He's coming off a down year so buying low is a possibility He's not going to get a qualifying offer as a free agent reliever so that isn't a consideration This seems like EXACTLY the right time to give him a contract extension that gets him to age 30 or 31.
  16. The Twins should want their free agents to get big contracts around age 30 so they can give them the qualifying offer and get the draft pick. Ryan fits this scenario perfectly. They shouldn't be giving big money to pitchers in their mid-30s.
  17. Get someone who can catch the ball and move one of their below average fielders to DH.
  18. The defense is the big question mark for Keaschall. He's not a SS but could be anywhere in the OF or the right side of the infield. Is he a good fielder or is he bouncing around because they can't find a spot where he's good like Austin Martin? Is he all bat like Luis Arraez?
  19. Luzardo is lefthanded, throws 96 MPH, and is 1 year removed from a 4 WAR season. One 4 WAR season got Jordan Montgomery 2 years $47M. Lucas Giolito parlayed an absolutely awful walk season into a 2 year $37M contract from the Red Sox. Market value for starting pitching is crazy.
  20. Keaschall looks good. Luzardo would get a multiyear contract as a free agent > $25M per season.
  21. They gave up 1-1/2 expensive years of Berrios for 6 years of SWR. Woods-Richardson's 2024 was better than the full season of Berrios they traded away. The Twins have already won the deal.
  22. It's already an underpay with Keaschall. Julien for Luzardo would be a trade vetoed by a fantasy baseball commissioner. You don't get top lefthanded starting pitchers for a 3rd option at DH.
  23. You may want to tell Fangraphs that he's a top 60 prospect because they don't rate him in their top 100. Jorge Polanco last season cost $12M in salary and returned 4 players including top 150 prospect Gonzalez. Castro is coming off a much more impressive season than Polanco and costs half as much. If other teams aren't valuing 2025 Castro higher than 2024 Polanco then the Twins should be negotiating a contract extension with Castro because he is very undervalued. It is rare that you can get an All-Star infielder for just $6M. The only free agent infielders I would rather have than Castro are Bregman and Gleyber Torres. Willi Castro is a lot better than you are giving him credit for.
