  1. He had an 841 OPS across AA/AAA last year. That's not that great.
  2. Possibly, but that means he won't sign until very late, possibly into February.
  3. Tiant would be a worthy selection to the Hall of Fame. Too bad his selection would be too late for him to enjoy it.
  4. They can't afford him. Your statement here is wrong: He actually turned down a guaranteed $6M to trigger a $1.75M buyout Outfielder Randal Grichuk turns down option with Diamondbacks, becomes free agent | FOX Sports He's going to expect at least $6M in free agency. For that money I'd rather keep Willi Castro.
  5. Miami has the same size TV market as Minnesota. They're a medium market for size but not a good market for baseball. MLBs best expansion targets in the US are Portland, OR; Charlotte, NC; Nashville, TN; San Antonio, TX. Those are all roughly as good as Pittsburgh and Baltimore.
  6. With Carson Kelly signed they're basically all gone. Any team who still wants a catcher can get Thaiss from the Cubs or call the Twins.
  7. I like the idea, even if it is just to pump-and-dump. Make him a starter and if he succeeds he's a great trade chip with two seasons of team control after this season. If he fails, he'll be fine back in the bullpen.
  8. The disparity in large and small market teams is going to hinder expansion. There are markets that would be viable for MLB, especially compared to Milwaukee, Cincinnati and Miami, but they're still small markets. It would be good for MLB as a whole to expand but it would dilute the shared revenue even more because there is nobody they can add who would be a large market team.
  9. Employment Among Immigrants and Implications for Health and Health Care | KFF EW-FoodSupply-factsheet.pdf I agree, your restaurant bill is certain to go up.
  10. Target Field Food Ultimate Guide - Minnesota Twins Food | TSR What to Eat at Target Field, Baseball Stadium of the Minnesota Twins - Eater Twin Cities Kramarczuk sausages, Pizza Luce pizzas, Red Cow burgers, Hot Indian, Union Hmong Kitchen, Soul Bowl, Tony O's Cubano sandwiches, tons of craft beers. The food is at least as good as the State Fair.
  11. Hundreds of thousands of people pay an entrance fee to the MN State Fair every year for the privilege of eating overpriced food.
  12. This contract by itself raises the amount of the qualifying offer in future season by over $300k.
  13. It's not possible that every free agent contract is an "overpay". It's market rate for talent among billionaire owners who have been watching their net worth climb for month. Some of them have gained enough wealth in the last month to buy another professional sports team.
  14. You are still allowed to bring your own food to Target Field. If food costs are keeping you from attending, bring a picnic.
  15. Ichiro's career OPS+ is 107 because he got a late start in MLB (age 27) and hung around about 6 years past his prime (ages 37-44). It's 10 years of awesome (55 WAR) followed by 6 years of just good enough to get playing time (5 WAR). Joey Gallo's positive contribution was ages 23-27. Ichiro was starring in Japan before age 27. Give Gallo 14 more seasons in the big leagues to match Ichiro's career and we'll see what his career statline looks like. I'll take Gallo's age 23-27 performance over Ichiro's age 40-44 but otherwise it's clearly Ichiro.
  16. Santana should have been AL MVP in 2004 AND 2006. The best players in baseball were pretty heavily in the NL in 2004 (Bonds, Pujols, Beltre, Rolen, Edmonds, Helton, Randy Johnson, JD Drew). Ichiro was the best position player in the AL followed by Miguel Tejada and Alex Rodriguez. 2006 was a closer call but I still think Santana was more valuable than Joe Mauer. They passed over two better choices on the Twins to give that MVP to Morneau.
  17. I agree. Last year 10 players were chosen and the Twins pick 12th. This year should be even less talent available because the 2020 draft was only 5 rounds.
  18. History shows that the best bang for your buck selling is relief pitching. The Twins could get some serious talent in return for Jax and/or Duran. If they get two young, talented players in return for a reliever they will come out ahead in the short and long term.
  19. Prielipp also tore his UCL and this one is his replacement ligament after Tommy John surgery.
  20. Got my picks in. Goltz is underrated, especially since he's from Pelican Rapids.
  21. If they want Valenzuela they should trade someone for him and put him on the 40 man roster so they can option him.
  22. You want to drop one outfielder and add four? They need a second baseman now. If they trade Vazquez they would be desperate for a catcher.
  23. They pick 12th in the Rule 5 draft. The odds that there are 12 good players available are nearly zero.
  24. There are a lot more options than just "play the young guys they already have" and "supplement by dumpster diving".
