  1. I don't want the 2nd wild card spot to be Wildly Successful, I want that to be a let down. I want this to be a good team that expects to win and make changes on the big league roster to continue to improve. They don't suck so let's leave good enough alone, doesn't fly with me. Go Twins
  2. I gotta think when Arcia comes back, Hunter and Arcia rotate RF and DH, and Stauffer gets DFA'd. Robinson sticks as defensive replacement/pinch runner.
  3. Plouffe and Dozier are following up career years in 2014 with career years in 2015.
  4. do you really believe that Pelfrey's status and quality of pitching will hold up? Milone may not be better than Pelfrey today, but far better than Pelfrey tomorrow. Gets some trade value while you can, because it won't be there in July. Sad thing is, his trade value is stunted because no GM is going to give up much for "Mike Pelfrey and his two stupid pitches"... God I'm talking myself out of my own argument. I still don't think he will hold up.n
  5. They can DFA Stauffer and still have 12 pitchers, I'd like to see Stauffer DFA'd Duensing DFA'd. Vargas brought up, Milone brought up to the 5th spot in the rotation, and Pelfrey traded for whatever could be had, prospect wise, and Tonkin brought back up.
  6. I agree w/ dhtf that management has some kind of issue w/ Vargas, and also think TR didn't want to eat Stauffer's salary and cut him. Why carry 13 pitchers and no DH?
  7. And they need a DH which also leads back to Vargas and Arcia
  8. I dunno, looks like he's pitched fine*, poor fielding behind him, and he got hurt today. He's pitched pretty well. There are other candidates on the pitching staff that need to go, but not Ricky. He's had a descent season so far. *Looking at FIP and BABIP
  9. if Tonkin was sent down for Vargas and Stauffer was cut for Fien or vice versa, I would not be epically pissed right now.
  10. to be fair, Bollinger was optimistic last August too
  11. its not like I want them to suck, I just don't trust both of them to last. Pelfrey is all smoke a mirrors to this point. There are a few pitchers who have sustained the illusion, but most don't. Nolasco does have a history of effective pitching and he'd be the guy I trust more of the two, and I agree that neither should be bumped for Milone. Milone's best place is in AAA' where he can be available when the illusion fizzles or someone gets injured. Too early to think about July, injuries will strike.
  12. at some point Pelfrey and/or Nolasco are going to turn back into pumpkins or get traded
  13. Pinto could be another 15-20 hr guy at C in addition to Vargas/Arcia at DH
  14. name the Twins pitching prospects of the last decade to have worked out as above average MLB starting pitchers for the Twins. Johan and ummm Gibson, sorta, the jury is still out. Prospects are just that, until they prove it at the bigs. That's why the Span and Revere trades were good for both sides at the time. If May and Meyer were locks to be everything the scouts said they were, wouldn't you get more than decent starting CFers?
  15. i would hope Rosario, Buxton, Arcia and Hicks would be your 4 outfielders. Arcia appears to be in the dog house, like Vargas it seems to be a work ethic thing, but both can overcome that.
  16. im beginning to agree with this philosophy. Look at the Royals last year. No true ace, but three very very good pitchers, and I think Gibson could be one of those three if he can continue to pitch like he has lately. If someday he can pitch in the playoffs like he did yesterday the Twins would have a good chance of winning
  17. sure you can criticize a trade that doesn't work out, and I can defend it. Since then we've discovered that the strength in CF wasn't quite there that TR thought he had, and I will be the first to criticize TR about the CF situation over the last few years. It might be a bit soon to say it was a failed trade, but we're getting close. Regardless I defend it for intent. Prospects don't always have success at the majors and maybe Meyer doesn't, or maybe he becomes a very good reliever, or can regain starting form and recover.
  18. he used to watch strike three 4-5 times per game, and when he did swing it was weak, and when he did make contact it was weak. It's nice to see him become more authoritative in all facets of his game. With his improved emphasis on fielding, I can live with Hicks being only a slight improvement over Schafer/Robinson at the dish. He's been the best option at CF this season and I hope that the small sample size grows to a large one.
  19. the span deal happened first, and value is always relative to the rest of the market. The Revere deal happened in a more scarce market for outfielders which made Revere a higher priced commodity. The Twins had already traded Span and didn't have another option with ML experience, but felt Hicks could make the jump, so the risk was higher for the Twins too. Both deals had the right principle applied, just neither reaped immediate dividends. I don't think it's fair to say that the Nationals valued Meyer less than other pitchers in their system, they traded from a position of strength to improve a position of weakness. The Nationals valued Span enough to give up Meyer to get him.
  20. its baseball, and there are dozens of websites, blogs, YouTube channels, and TV networks that dissect every facet of the game. It's not curing cancer or decrypting the human genome, it's a game. Sure Jack Goin has a far deeper analytical baseball insight than anyone at the economist, or me as a supply chain manager with a degree in manufacturing management, but don't underestimate the statistical understanding of a premier economics magazine.
  21. She sneaks around the world from Kiev to Carolina, She's a sticky-fingered filcher from Berlin down to Belize, She'll take you for a ride on a slow boat to China, Tell me where in the world is Carmen Sandiego?
  22. i went Brokeback Mountain with that quote
  23. Funny stuff. This paints a similar picture as was in my head, only I pictured TR calling Goin a nerd as he slammed the door in his face. I wonder if TR/Mollie were to take a step bs k they'd go " Holy crap! We have a whole team of utility infielders, 4th outfielders, and one out pen specialists.
  24. Sid's a great guy, but you'd be better off trusting me
