  1. Great to see the strikeouts for Berrios! I wondered if he was injured, and am now very relieved
  2. Fantastic post Heezy! I feel so much smarter for having read this!
  3. really need the bats to come alive early. Put up about 10 runs early so Molly can hand it over to Hughes with an 8 run lead and watch it dwindle through 3 innings
  4. ”Trevor Hildenberger made an appearance for the third straight game, tell me about his performance” Garver: “Gusty.... he was blowing them away”
  5. The baseballs are made to the same spec by the same company in two different plants. There isn’t enough capacity to make all balls for every league in one plant. The difference between two balls made using the same spec and same process in two plants is materials. Those materials are also made to the same spec using the same process, but in different plants (possibly different suppliers, I don’t know). So if there isn’t enough capacity to make enough balls for every league using one plant, why not have the change from AAA to MLB? If there is enough capacity, why not between AA and AAA?
  6. So there were hot takes like this one https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/twins-reportedly-offered-lance-lynn-two-years-and-20-million-which-is-a-lowball/ He signed for even less... and the Twins have thus far gotten 7.34 ERA and tons of short starts. His xFip has stayed similar to 2017 at 4.62 compared to 4.75 in 17. HR/9 20.7 is way up, as has is k/9 9.3 which are both higher than his career norms. .381 BABIP plus 20hr/9 is hurting his success badly. I’m optimistic the fielding will improve behind him to reduce the BABIP and the HR/9 will normalize a bit. At least he’d be a solid number 5 rather than a weak number 5...
  7. very plausible, but why Melotakis, and why release not trade? It could very well have been Sam Clay or Enns. I’m not sure if I even really care.... just curious as Melo is a guy that I recognize
  8. He’s certainly played better recently and a big part of their improved play these last few games. I’m not sold on his fielding, but with LaMarre playing CF and Grossman on the bench, it’s less of a concern
  9. A) catchers don’t hit. Mauer, Pudge, Berra, were extraordinary. They need to be valued as such. B)Castro is a league average hitting catcher. Nothing wrong with that. C) how good of a catcher can you reasonably expect to be stashed at AAA? We’re talking about the 27 year old career minor league backup and the 35 year old journeyman at the end of his leash. I’m just thrilled they’re both seemingly competent and we’re not watching Kurt Suzuki.
  10. this is exactly why they signed Wilson. If you are a Garver fan, nothing could be more encouraging than this scenario.
  11. it means they didn’t really have a reason to 60 day him earlier. He just started throwing a couple weeks ago, so he wasn’t coming back until Memorial anyways. Now I think he has to be out until 60 days after the season started. Roughly May 28.
  12. To make room Erv put on 60 day
  13. Thanks to Tom for the chart. Hughes last start was April 27. He hasn’t yet made a bullpen appearance yet. It’s been 8 days. I wonder when he’ll get one. It’s not for lack of opportunity.
  14. Per Fanrags Twins signed Rodriguez to a minor league deal. He’s struggled to come back from Tommy John in 2015. But a glimmer of his 2013/14 self would sure look good... https://mobile.twitter.com/RobertMurrayFRS/status/991468413284442112 https://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=13398&position=P
  15. Agreed that many of the Twins prospects could use more polish when they get to the bigs. Not sure AAA is necessarily the answer for every player. It seems to me Falvine do not believe every prospect must go to AAA in order to prepare for the bigs. Maybe Gordon has learned all he can from Chattanooga, if so, sure send him to AAA. If not, no need to push. There’s no one behind him.
  16. there is no one listed as SS in FT Myers right now, so unless Lewis is ready to jump straight to double A in his second pro season (holy crap wouldn’t that be awesome) there’s no reason to promote Gordon into a less pitching intensive league. Seems like AAA is synonymous with AAAA and AA is where the prospects stay.
  17. My guess as to the conversation leading up to the decision: Molly: Boy Thad, we gotta do something about these short starts! Phil is killing my bullpen. Levine into the intercom: Hi Dorris, send in Mr Hughes please. Hughes: hi Thad, hi Molly, what’s up? Levine: We can’t help but notice that your struggling to get out of the 4th inning Phil. Are you hurt? Hughes: nope! Fit as a fiddle Levine: are you sure? Hughes: positive! Levine cocks an eyebrow Hughes: I’m fine! Really! Molly: ok then we gotta put you in the pen. Levine: thanks Phil, see you later, go get ‘em Levine: Dorris, please get me Mike Quade. Paul, when Lance hits 110 pitches in the 5th, please send out one of (player x) and (player y). One of those two are going back to Rochester tomorrow.
  18. Any idea who goes down? Rogers?
  19. I wouldn't read too much into that. Hughes is getting a long leash until he runs out. Molitor isn't going to indicate anything other than support for a struggling veteran.
  20. CBS sports references Berardino but no link. I googled it, no luck, but May sounds encouraging https://www.cbssports.com/fantasy/baseball/news/twins-trevor-may-game-action-slated-for-later-in-week/
  21. point exactly. It doesn’t matter who he starts against, but if you’re choosing to punt on a start, should it be against a team you have a chance to win against otherwise?
  22. i believe Rogers has an option yet and has value. I’d exercise his option.
  23. seems to me, there were a number of posters who agreed w/ Bonnes. Maybe 50/50 or 60% approval. There were a loud group at the time wondering why you’d extend a (any) pitcher after one year
  24. after the first two games, do you stand by this?
  25. the one issue I have on this roster/bullpen is 3 LOOGYs and a rule 5 guy with a thin bench and short one fireman. They really need another arm that can warm up quick and get your starter out of a jam. Lots of inherited runners scored, not much trust by Molly for too many members of the bullpen.
