  1. Rooker’s destiny is in his own hands. Depth isn’t affecting Rooker’s development plan. Wade might be impacted, but if he makes his case, they’ll figure out the finagling. Seems like Levi Michael has to figure some things out... he hasn’t been in the discussion at all.
  2. now all they need is a left handed outfielder named Quarry and the screwball comedy script writes itself
  3. https://youtu.be/FG0-cncMpt8 I had the same thought. Maybe Antony will put a piano in the locker room just to see if Cave can play it...
  4. if you’re giving Hughes a shot, I’d rather it in April with the goofy schedule and high chance for rainouts. Mejia can then get into a regular rotation in AAA and be the first man up for the rain out doubleheaders and when someone gets hurt. When Santana comes back, the 5th starter is getting the boot anyways, barring injury
  5. true, every game is valuable however, April has fewer planned 5th starter starts and the greater opportunity for 6th starter starts due to double headers from rain outs. April will be very inconsistent for the 5th starter. I can see why Falvine would want to get Mejia his work. The beginning of the season tends to be a continuation of ST. Seems like short starts are more common in the first couple weeks.
  6. they’re going to use 10 starting pitchers this season. Mejia is better than Hughes, but Hughes might be better than Slegers, and there’s not much ml experience behind Mejia... Point is, someone is getting injured and someone as bad or worse than Hughes is getting 6-10 starts with the big league club. Isn’t it good to have Mejia in your back pocket? He’s getting 10 or more starts with the big league club no matter what. Why do you care if it’s April or August for either Hughes or Mejia? For the record, I like Mejia a lot and feel he should be going north... I don’t like Hughes and want him to be gone, and wonder what value the FO thinks they can wring from him... It’s the 5th starter and 1-4 are pretty dang solid. When Santana comes back, there’ll be some roster shuffling. When someone (prolly Hughes) gets hurt, there’ll be some roster shuffling. April showers bring pilgrims or something. It’s all up in the air...
  7. 130 mil is relative to revenue and the total market. We won't know how much tis is relative to other teams for a couple weeks yet as the season has yet to begin, but at what looks to be roughly 52% of projected revenue Ryan and Smith both had budgets that were comparable in terms of MLB rank and % of revenue. The 51-52% number has not really changed in 10+ years and have been middle of the pack by rank several times.
  8. Lynn could be Ervin Santana or Ricky Nolasco. Ryan just paid full price because he never had an offseason market like Falvine had. May never have that again.
  9. better than makin the trip and being told while your away
  10. seems more like Pirana small ball... nibbled to death rather than the Darvish home run
  11. nope, I’m saying TR never had this kind of offseason where he could really play hardball like Levine has. TR overpaid for Ricky Nolasco and Phil Hughes because the market was there for the better talent to take contracts outside of his ability/willingness to pay. This new FO has done really good things, but they’ll need to do it again next year. I can’t wait to watcj
  12. So Sanchez is a free agent https://www.twincities.com/2018/03/11/twins-release-veteran-pitcher-anibal-sanchez/
  13. oportunity may not be the same next year. It doesn’t matter how good you are, if the opportunity to sign someone who misjudged the market doesn’t exist, the FO won’t get the same perceived “value” they’ll get scrap heap ala TR
  14. Sanchez has an escalator is his contract 16 days before opening day, 400k becomes 600 k up to opening day when his ml contract vests up to 2.5 mil(not sure if there are other incentives to get all of that) They’ll want to cut him loose before March 29
  15. ive been in favor signing him, I think last year was a bounce back from TJ year and 2018 on he’ll go back to a more normal year more or less. I do understand the doubters. Not everyone recovers from major surgery the same way. Yes, I expect his BABIP to climb and his k rate to climb with it. He relied heavily on his sinker last year more than other years. It’s not a good pitch for him, but with health he shouldn’t have to rely on it. Less sinker means better ability to pitch up in the zone, out of the wheelhouse of the uppercut swing types
  16. Indeed it could be an outlier, but we don’t know. A thousand mile journey begins with one step.
  17. had to check the time stamp to make sure the was a prediction
  18. itll be Vargas... but Sanchez is owed less than a mil, so he’ll be cut shortly before the escalator
  19. It’s official Lynn agrees to one year 12 mil with Twins https://mobile.twitter.com/jonmorosi/status/972587636866117632
  20. if LoMo and his 38 home runs in 2017 signed for 6.5 mil, what on earth makes you think Levine would agree to 10 for Mauer?
  21. its Gleeman and the Geek Bonnes: Gibson’s turned the corner! Let’s get him wrapped up before he gets expensive Gleeman: he does this every year... his stats are always the same and yet you want to get into a long term contract. He’s a 5th starter John, you need to produce a new Gibson from your farm system before he becomes a free agent. Bonnes: I think he figured it out Sconnie (shouting at car stereo): we already have Gibson 2.0 in Mejia, let’s improve the front of the rotation
  22. 4 years of 7% followed by 1 year of14%. It’s more than 2 data points... however 2017 could be an outlier. Why I’m absolutely in favor of a 2 year deal on Lynn.
  23. 2017 looked just like his career. While getting an Arbitration salary there’s value with Gibson, but i don’t buy that he turned a corner. Same with Lynn or Cobb, I think either one of them would be a not huge, but decent upgrade over Gibson. Maybe working with Alston and Falvey can improve value from one of them. That’s a huge improvement over Hughes or Sanchez and slots Mejia in 5th, Gibson in 4th. So you’d have fewer starts from the weakest links. When Santana comes back, exercise Mejia’s option and now you could have a heck of a solid 1-5 rotation. No Ace per say, but good as a whole, at least good enough to get 90 wins if they hit like last year.
  24. shaun marcum had Tommy John surgery as well. But totally agree, TOS ends careers. I wonder how many careers it ended but went undiagnosed, or how many times it has been diagnosed incorrectly.
