  1. of the low leverage options available to try out into the situations you can’t put Hildenberger into anymore and don’t want to put Rogers into (every time) I’d think Magill is as good as any of them.
  2. it seems to me that Baldelli and the FO are trying to develop Magill into a higher leverage reliever. If they can do that and have a stronger bullpen throughout the season, it’s a significant win.
  3. I’m not sure I buy into the “leadoff hitters job is to see as many pitches as possible” narrative, but agree, a few more walks to balance the current strategy of “ambush the first pitch meatball” would really be a plus. Kepler seems more likely to develop that than Rosario, but maybe less likely than Polanco. It’s been fun watching these guys grow right in front of us like the Puckett/Hrbek group in the 80s
  4. Really good article. I think you may have answered why Kep’s career BABIP is low and has increased this year. Historically he hit balls mostly Right Center and Center, the deepest part of the park. Fly balls that don’t leave the park are usually outs. Now that he’s started pulling the ball more off that target field limestone and over it, he’s getting better success. Exciting to watch that young man mature. All the tools and it’s finally seemingly coming together.
  5. thanks for clarifying. Game day was really confusing
  6. Gardy ejected from both games huh? Showing off in front of the old stomping grounds?
  7. Why do we have to take advantage of banked wins? Why not win 107 games?
  8. Berrios is still under contract and Perez has a team option for next year. Still have the “now what” cuz you still need to fill 3 rotation spots and can only reasonably hope to fill one internally.
  9. me too. I’m still waiting for hitters to figure out the cutter, but I’m way more optimistic on Perez now, than I was 2 months ago. Of course two months ago I was pretty certain Perez’s arm was going fall off.
  10. as the games has gone on, he’s leaned heavier on the cutter. Maybe 40% the last couple innings. How long can that last until the hitters catch on?
  11. after their off day on Thursday, they play 14 games in 13 days. With the 26th man for the double header, I’d rather keep the bullpen as fresh as possible.
  12. If gamecast is to be believed, that first Rosie swung at would have hit him, were he a righty. Pitchers have figured out they don’t have to throw strikes huh? Edit: then he crushes a homer.
  13. Preach! This gets us back to the original topic and why they signed Marwin to begin with, and agree that the best way to develop a team, is to obsolete the utility infielder by having a starting 12 rather than a starting 9 and 3 bench players. But again, the team hasn't been developing 9, let alone 12. Further, the question wasn't "What would I do to get Lewis up to the bigs faster?" The question was "What would I do if Lewis was ready now?". If Lewis was ready now, I'd make a move to improve pitching in the bigs by trading Schoop, and then get Lewis up here. Schoop isn't a multi-position guy, neither is Polanco, neither is Lewis. If I were remaking the Twins development organization over the last three years, I'd follow your template. It's a good one. It's also why I'm keepin Marwin over Schoop
  14. Is it the twitterverse? It seems like in the internet age, vocal minorities with tech-bullhorns speak louder than they used to. It's been cold, the games starting at 6:40 make it pretty tight to get there after work. I'm not sure about anyone else, but for me that one backfired. Mostly, my assumptions line up with others, they've sucked badly for 8 years, they've teased us before.... so they need to prove it this season to get season tix sales for next season. Next season, they better not regress..... again....
  15. thank God for the wealth of riches? Is this a trick question? Trade or bench Schoop and move Polanco to 2nd. That doesn’t change the original concept that a GM needs to develop utility players not sign them. Polanco was clearly mismanaged while riding the big league bench and not playing anywhere while accruing mlb service time and Nick Gordon hasn’t panned out yet. The cupboard was bare before signing Marwin (or could have kept and resigned Escobar)
  16. I read this as “hornymonsters”, and wondered if they really did like the spring too.
  17. the last GM got booted for failure to develop players. It takes a long time to fill the pipeline, but I believe Willians Astudillo and Nick Gordon are the utility infielders of the future. Gordon isn’t ready yet.
  18. pssst: according to bbtef game log Garver has caught 15 games to Castro’s 13 and the remainder by Willians. You can never have too much of a good thing, and IMO, Castro is a really good catcher. I do agree that Sano’s return could have a trickle down to Willians, but I think Cave is the most likely casualty as he has options and Marwin is a reasonable 4th outfielder too
