These questions are not very compelling. My questions are - will they bring Wallner back? Can Julien regain his position? Is Kiriloff in need of a really long reset? If Paddock tires does Varland or Festa take his place? Will Varland go to the pen, is Jackson really someone we count on?

Unfortunately what stands out most is how many injuries have set back this class. I still think Lewis is the best and hope Green can reach his potential.

Let's keep beating the bad teams - we need all the wins we can get. I was at the Blue Jays - Cleveland game tonight and I saw Cleveland win - again. And I am still not sure how they are doing it, but I do not think they are going to fade - we have to catch them.

I am not denying that he is good, but that is not the question. How high do we rate him?

I am mystified by the DFA of Castillo and the recall of Jackson. You have not convinced me that this is a good call. At this point losing Thielbar would have been a better option, but letting Jackson prove it for a couple more weeks might have been the best decision. Your Yankee story was very good. My take on this is that we have a fixation with strikeouts on both offense and defense. If the off repeated canard that a strikeout is no worse than a ground out/fly out then the pitcher who gets a ground ball out is just as valuable as the flame throwing strikeout artist who gives up fly balls that go a long, long way.

I asked this question in the minor league report - what are the hitting coaches doing in MPLS? Wallner, Kiriloff, Julien have all been sent down for hitting issues. That is a lot of potential being lost. I think they had no choice but to send Alex down - but it is time to assess the massive coaching team for their abilities too.

A fascinating report - I looked at the DFA for Diego Castillo who had 0.1 WAR in his brief time up and a 2.57 era and we drop him for Jackson who in his Twins time had a -0.8 WAR and a 6.94 era with a lifetime era of 4.23. I am still trying to figure this out. Was Jackson that outstanding in the minors? Time for Rayne Doncon to move up again. I am fascinated by him and he seems to have so much potential. I feel bad for Kiriloff. But having both Kiriloff and Julien sent down my question is - what at the batting coaches in Mpls doing? The next question is - can Martin establish himself this time?

What a joke - these are the Rockies. Fun victories, but don't make a lot of assumptions based on this game

Of course we should. Analytics does not matter if you lose. "At a boys" for players who are expected to be your Ace are not good enough. We are 40% of the way through the season and struggling to be above .500 - he is a career .500 pitcher with a 4.01 ERA and -0.2 WAR for the year. Of course he will pitch some great games and we will celebrate, but he is not an ACE except for the Twins. And like the discussion about Correa - we overrate him, but he is all we can afford so let's cheer him on and be happy we have someone who is a good pitcher, just not a great one.

Yes he is overrated, but he also very good. When compared to the list of SS that were signed in his first FA year he was not at the top and the subsequent failure of other teams to sign him the second time left the Twins with an opportunity to overpay to get someone they really needed. I am fine with this because the other poll on this Athletic summary showed only 2.3% of players would choose to play for the Twins. So to get stars we need to extend and pay a premium. But in the end I would choose Buxton as our most overrated. Fox sports lists the 10 best SS in MLB: Corey Seager, Texas Rangers. ... Mookie Betts, Los Angeles Dodgers. ... Francisco Lindor, New York Mets. ... Trea Turner, Philadelphia Phillies. ... Gunnar Henderson, Baltimore Orioles. ... Bobby Witt Jr., Kansas City Royals. ... Bo Bichette, Toronto Blue Jays. ... Dansby Swanson, Chicago Cubs. Bleacher Reports in 2023 rated the Shortstops and had Correa at number 17. But for us he is number one.

Twins Minor League Report (6/11): Kernels Pop Off Lugnuts
mikelink45 replied to Steve Lein's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
How nice to see the prospect list with every player getting hits! Can you tell me about Jay Harry - his name surprised me in ST and it seems like most days I read about him in your summaries. Is he a top prospect now?- 12 replies

We’ve Reached a Prove-It Point With Kyle Farmer
mikelink45 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
For a team that has the winning and losing streaks that the Twins have this year I have to question leadership by anyone. That is not the criteria to use in making decisions like this.- 29 replies

Sorry to see Caleb struggle, but the Twins cannot afford to let this continue to be the case. We need wins and if Caleb is indeed cooked like so many say, maybe Varland should step in. I do not care which are they throw with > I just want good pitches. Glad Byron got a HR, but his totals are still ghastly. And losing to the Rockies is not good - the white Sox, Rockies, and A's should not be allowed to beat us (I know they will, but it is still frustrating after our NY/Pittsburgh series.

Week in Review: Yanking the Rug Out

Well I am sorry you are so offended. Of all the teams listed they were last. But it amounts to the same thing - are you happy to be 14th? -

Fascinating player poll on the Athletic today - who is most overrated - Jazz Chisholm, but coming in third is Carlos Correa - Carlos Correa (6.7 percent), Tim Anderson and Jack Flaherty (5 percent) were next, while Pete Alonso, Cody Bellinger, Alex Bregman, Elly De La Cruz, Manny Machado and Blake Snell (3.3 percent) rounded out our leaderboard. On our team I say Byron Buxton, then Pablo Lopez, Duran, and Ober. - Not sure where to put Correa - he is doing what is needed, but is not the star of a Turner, Betts, or some other SS. In another poll they asked which teams they would sign with if no taxes, contracts and rosters were considered - guess which team came in last among those on the list at 2.3%? -
Minor League Report (6/9): Zebby Does Zebby Things
mikelink45 replied to Matt Braun's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Is it time for Zebby to move to St Paul? He has proven his ability at every level and looks like he might be pushing Festa for the top of the list of potential call ups. Which causes me to ask - what is happening with Varland? I worry that Julien, Wallner, Varland are not getting the help they need in the minors. They need some good production again.- 19 replies

Week in Review: Yanking the Rug Out
mikelink45 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Thanks for another good summary of a bad week. I keep thinking about the rotation and currently I would see the 1 - 5 positions as Ryan SWR Lopez Ober Paddock This is not what I expected, but the question comes from the Yankee series - is this a rotation that can win in the post season? I don't think so. Buxton is an enigma. His current OPS+ is 82. For the last three years his BA and OBP are consistent but not good. His SLG has diminished three years it a row. He is not a star and maybe he never was - 2021 was not an indicator of greatness - it was an outlier. The expectations are from us fans and we have to adjust and he needs to slip down the lineup. I like Castro and the way he plays the game - I also think we are overusing Jeffers - give him a higher pct of games at C and let Miranda DH. Is Santana heating up for the rest of the season or is this just a short burst? Jeffers has reverted to the player we all wanted to trade for the last two years - he fooled us with a second half burst last year. Will he do it again? Kiriloff, Julien and Wallner are my biggest disappointments. Then there is the question of Duran - can he get back his dominance? -
Miranda is the answer. We need his bat. Do you trust Santana to continue to improve his line? No need to trade - Miranda, Larnach, Lee are the answers and we need to help the younger players mature for the future.

Glad we won, but not impressed. Pirates have no depth so we outlasted them, but come on Ober, we were starting to think you might be a number 2 - now I am content to think 4.

Seth - I loved your lead paragraphs. I know there is an article about what does Jenkins need to prove - but the question I have is what has he proven? What are his stats. I know we all dream of him rising quickly, but is he performing like he did last year. Last note - I am always a skeptic when it comes to young and unproven talent and want to wait to move them up the prospect list. This year I would have Soto dropped from number 7 to a late prospect number until he shows he has the professional prowess that a number 7 should have.

I am not asking to get rid of Baldelli, maybe it is the analytics department that needs to go. I am really frustrated by this teams ability to slide into indifference. I want the SB, the hit and run, the extra base. I want some energy. Vasquez, Farmer, Margo have become a joke for me. Collectively they are 62 for 333 - 186. When I add up their BR WAR figures I get -1.4 and then Rocco has the gall to have one of them pinch hit! My god, that is so beyond analyctics.

I really enjoy these dips into our history. There was a Vic Power HR that is still locked into my memory and some of the moments that made 1961 such a special time. I loved Pedro Ramos even though he will never be a Twins great and Pascual was the coolest of the players I saw.
