  1. I am okay with taking a chance on Soto. I am not hating him. I just do not buy into the hype and early ratings.
  2. Desclafani, Peneda, Mahle, Paddock. We specialize in signing DL starters. Canterino is one of our perpetual injuries and I am sorry about that. Theilbar and Duran are the big losses.
  3. That is fine, but no matter what age, he was not that impressive to me. I am glad he is for everyone else and I will celebrate when he breaks out as a professional.
  4. He is a great story and I hope he continues to prosper. We have had a lot of pitchers like Viola, Goltz, Perry that did not seem as flashy as the strikeout artists but really produced. I will take them.
  5. It is funny to read all the reactions - especially about Charlie Soto. He did not impress me. I am not down on him, but he has a ways to go before I start to see him as the high level prospect everyone else seems to see and want. I was impressed by the bats and I was not impressed with the Ray's arms. I really want more of these games.
  6. This really added to Spring Training. I loved seeing the prospects. It is better than the NBA in season tournament and I hope they keep it and expand access and publicity.
  7. He has the number five slot in my mind, but my mind does not count for much in the world of contracts and MLB. I always take the young go over the mediocre vet. So good luck Louie - I wish I could call the shots for you
  8. I like Miranda and hope this spring propels him to high draft status so he can have a chance to be a Rooker, Raley, Wells, Steer, Encarnacion-Strand Littell, Wade, or Cano,
  9. I suspect that Max would be gone if other teams valued him as much as our FO. The trade Max and drop payroll theme has been two years now. Maybe he goes by the end of ST. But part of the issue is who takes his spot? When Polanco was traded it a situation where we had so many 2B that it was hard to see where we would play them all. I think Max is a FA, I do not see an in-season trade. Out hope is that we will have Jenkins ready to bust out in 25
  10. Wait and see. Hope and hype do not mean anything. I want him out there. Will he play?????
  11. I think you answered the question you asked me. Total coverage of the plate is possible and I would love to see him move his game up. I think he could be a star.
  12. The most cogent statement in this thread is the fact that we believe salaries have gotten out of hand since Catfish Hunter. I hate reading about payrolls and contracts. This is in a world that makes no sense to people like me who have never been highly paid, but love my life as it is. I like baseball, I like to watch the plays and players but if all the salary negotiations were removed from the baseball threads I would be delighted. Do I really care how much Ohtani gets paid? No. What I care about is how much talent a team like the Dodgers can accumulate. I would love a salary cap - but I would want it to extend to what the owners get too. Without the salary cap the luxury tax is a foolish and meaningless thing. I see more and more youth coming in to the game - salary considerations are certainly part of this. We can see it in other sports where teams pay ridiculous salaries for players like Kurt Cousins and others are looking to start rookie QBs who will have a salary for five years that allow the team to accumulate more talent at other positions. Pay to the minor leagues increasing this year was the best news. The reduction in minor league teams a couple years ago was not. Will it become more international? I hope so. World cup of baseball - without this extension calling the championship the "World Series" has always felt arrogant and wrong.
  13. My simple answer is NO. The Orioles are so loaded with young talent that it can spill over into some massive trades if they want. I take them for the next rising AL power. The Twins need to be concerned with their own division where the Tigers have a higher rated minor league and lots of young players who are playing hard for Hinch. We will win this season. But I list the rising powers as: Orioles Rangers Twins and then I look at the Mariners, Blue Jays, and always the Rays with the Astros not ready to fade yet.
  14. They remind me of the Padres - lots of stars, but not a cohesive team. I am not a fan of the Yankees nor do I expect them to even win their division.
  15. This has been fun. I love the Dobnak quotes. He has been a great story, but the story ends when his contract ends and I hope we do not see him in a Twins game if the game counts in the standings. Otherwise I just go by the collective wisdom of all of you commentors. So here is a question for all of you. Headrick seems to have plateaued. I just have not seen him turning any corners. Varland is number 6, SWR is number 7, Festa probably needs another season but is number 8. I see Canterino in the BP. So where does that leave Headrick?
  16. My hope is that he can bring his swing under control, mash homers but strike out less. I do not care how far over the fence the ball flies - it is still one run. I just love to have a local guy on the team doing well like Hrbek did all those years.
  17. Why not be skeptical? This is a prove it sport. And we have seen BPs implode as well as come out of nowhere to be great. Remember how we had Cano and let him go, then Baltimore got him as an all-star. How do we judge BP arms? For me it is a matter of seeing them in action.
  18. It is amazing to me that we continue to buy damaged goods, Peneda, Mahle, Paddock, DeSclafani. Considering the salaries we pay for not productive years is it really a financial savings?
  19. This is a classic let's wait and see moment. I am worn out by the hype and I will know if we hit success or have another first year Pagan or an over rated Lopez in the pen. Who knows?
  20. Good essay, but I lack the scouting and predictive powers needed to answer your question. I am wait and see. For me he is over rated until I see a season in true competition.
  21. It is up to Kiriloff to step up, but injuries behind and just knock the heck out of the ball and prove he is the player we all anticipated a few years ago.
  22. I would love to see another homegrown "Hrbek" in the lineup.
  23. Interesting, but nothing stands out, other than that they still have too many players to sort through when they actually have a pretty set final roster in place.
  24. Let's hope for one truly good MLB player from what is left. We need to get at least one difference maker from each draft to be successful.
