I suppose if you give up one one run an inning you have a chance of winning - Fat Chance! Were you hired to be Shoemaker's press agent? David, I know you do not like to say anything bad about any Twin, but Shoemaker stunk. And so did Sano and so did Donaldson and ... Way to go Kiriloff.

    The BP is so shaky that writers have to come up with excuses for Rogers and Robles because they are our top two guys. This is KC, they are not that good and we are struggling to beat them. Larnach is doing great, but Refsnyders bloop was fantastic - what was the exit velocity and launch angle for that hit? Take some more bloops.

    This essay convinces me that we are better off considering Berrios our FA starter until his contract ends. I am not impressed with any of these options. When they are described as pitchers who still need to find control I am out, many of the prospects never do. I do not subscribe to the we have to trade him line for players ending their contract years if they are producing more than what you will get for them. We trade him, sign another Happ or Shoemaker for the rotation and in two years will have lost the production that Berrios can give the team.

    I agree that Larnach really seems like a better hitter at this stage than Kiriloff, but how much was it the recent injury? Rooker gets the Sano award - HR and 3 K. Not a fan.

    I am not convinced Jax is a MLB starter, but looking at our BP I think we have room for him. As for Canterino I wondered if the short outing was because he is about to be promoted.

    How could we have 0 errors? Dobnak should have 3 less earned runs but Donaldson had an error that became a double and Dan almost swallowed his mic when it happened. Then Garver drops the one hopper and no error? No wonder defensive metrics are not taken seriously. Stashak is a mess this year and it is not helping that we just keep putting him out there. No way was he going to bail out Dobnak. And Sano is back to his original style. Nice little streak, but KC pitching is not worth striking out on.

    I agree that things need to change, but we are in a conundrum that is driven by the statistics and how they are interpreted. I remember in the fifties when the mantra was Home Run hitters drive Cadillacs. Even then the long ball was the driving force, but no one knew how to maximize it. We still have plenty of mediocre pitchers (just look at the Twins staff) so the hitters need to adjust to the fielding positions and who is on the mound. It is almost more psychological that physical at this point. The HR really got its power boost in the PED era and now instead of peds we have launch angle. Although our modern emphasis on power shows how ridiculous the PED era stats are.

    I have been watching the Twins improved fielding and I would say there are plenty of errors and misplays. I want clean hits, but hitting the ball still has a chance to accomplish something.

    Your post sent me off to my calculator - Buxton has been a Twin seven years - 919 possible games and he has played in 456. That gives him a game pct of 496 and falling. It is so sad to see such a great talent unable to get on the field, but fill in CF - Cave, Refsnyder - do not do justice to the team in one of the most important fielding positions we have.

    Sorry, but your statement did not get me to disregard BA. I like batters to get hits, long hits, short hits, any kind of hit. BB are great and give you OBP, but they do not advance runners more than one base, they do not lead to misplays and errors. Give me hits and a good BA!

    I did not realize how large Duran is. He should have the physical stamina to remain a starter. Can Happ or Shoemaker relieve?

    I was just looking for some numbers to tweak your post. We should not be in the same league with KC, but we are and that is really the issue - no matter which numbers we choose.

BABIP - KC is number 3 and MN is #16. Most important Wins - KC is 19th, MN is is 26. The big question is - which team is more excited about this series? And yes, I hope the Twins sweep them, but this is not the Orioles.

    Very nice in every way. Don't look at the record - it is improving, but do look at the opposition before making too many judgments. We may have felt like our team was weak until you look at the rotation and the lineup that the Orioles put out. We move up a notch now with KC. They are not a good team, but they are much better than Baltimore and should give us a real chance to measure our team improvement.

    Too much Cy Young celebration. At this point it is as much mental as physical - where is the pitching coach?

    What a nice time for a man who has put in time and effort. No matter what happens from here on this stretch will always be part of his story and memory.

    I am fine with all your reasoning - I would argue with Narrow minded since that is a judgment you are making because I am not 100% in agreement with you. As I stated earlier - is there any difference between keeping Berrios until he walks or signing another FA for the same length of time and letting him walk? Which has more value?

    The Twins make it difficult to celebrate a victory. Berrios struggled against this lineup! And Sano 4 Ks against Kremer, Plutko and Akin!! And Colome is really making his comeback to high pressure roles - Stewart hitting 212, 697 OPS home run and then a couple more hits that Rogers had to erase!! And we decided to emphasize D, but Donaldson and Simmons each lead the club in errors (and errors understate their issues) what is going on? Imagine if Colome had been what the team expected, if Sano had played consistently good ball, and Maeda had not fallen into the dumpster - sorry got carried away there - I will get another cup of coffee. I love the Refsnyder run and keep referencing Bob Hazle with the Milwaukee Braves, but also Dusty Rhodes was another of those out of no where heroes. Then there was Kevin Maas. Enjoy the season Mr Refsnyder.

    I would not argue with your reasoning, but I still look at the void if he is gone - he has started the most games, he has pitched enough innings to be able to secure 5 wins, only Pineda has a better SP era and Berrios has 56 innings compared to Pineda's 38. He has 63 Ks and Maeda and Pineda have 39. His 1.15 Whip is second only to Pineda and blows away all the others. So trade, maybe, but I still want to know who fills in? So Berrios will walk after next year, we have a history of just signing players for one year for the rotation so lets enjoy this year and next with a pitcher who is better than all the fill ins that the team keeps getting. Even with our current struggles I want to win now and not get into a full rebuild.

    His streaks are great, but we have gone through 1/3 of a season waiting for the streak. The last four games - 10Ks, 2 H. Is the streak over? Sano is all or nothing and there are so many games with nothing. There is a play - Waiting for Godot - that makes me think of Sano. Game after game we are waiting for Sano. But in the Sano play he suddenly gets really hot, we get really excited, his stats are aglow and on the flip side of his streak we can say he has an wRC, a Slugging pct...but when he is bad we have only those memories and LOB. I see some changes in his approach, but then I see a day like yesterday and I have to admit his new approach was my wishful thinking. He had four Ks against Kremer, Pluko and Akin!!!
