    Well, I'm 99.99% sure that SpoTrac is wrong. MLBTraderumors, Cot's Contracts, and Twinkie Town all report that it's AND 200 IP in 2018. The writers on this site have also previously confirmed that it's AND 200 IP in 2018. With a Google search of Ervin Santana contract, SpoTrac is the only place reporting it as OR 200 IP in 2018, so I don't know where they are sourcing that from.

    Nope. It's 200 IP in 2018 AND 400 combined IP in 17-18, not OR.

    I think every team, at every level of baseball emphasizes throwing strikes. It's not easy to execute though. Unless of course you just soft toss it over the middle. But throwing strikes that aren't easily hittable is very hard to do. It's why guys like Kershaw and Verlander and Scherzer get paid like they do.

    Hmmm. Lynn, Odorizzi, Gibson, vs. Verlander, Kuechel, McCullers. That looks very unfavorable for the hometown nine. On the other hand, it's baseball, so who knows.

    The bottom line is they control their own destiny. Win 2 very winnable games at home and you're in. If they can't do that, they don't deserve to be in.

    Average OPS for a catcher is about .670, so I don't think Castro has a lack of hitting problem.

    Agree to disagree. Joe doesn't strike me as the kind of guy that is going to keep playing well into his 40's, which is what it would take. Especially given the toll that he's put on his body already, and having made plenty of money already.

    Yep, and if there are more weekday afternoon games added to the schedule, it's going to affect TV deals. TV ratings for those games are probably near zero.

    Yeah, if someone thought they were getting a #1 or #2 for $12 million, that's on them, not Lynn or the Twins. I'd expect right around league average performance.

    It doesn't meet MLB regulations. It works for college, but they are only able to max out at 290' down the RF line, which MLB won't allow.

    I think there is always an off day scheduled after a home opener, because teams charge a premium for home openers, so they can make up a postponement on that off day, and it will still be the home opener.

    Wasn't it well into the 40's in Pittsburgh? A bit too cool for shorts and sandals, sure, but not too cold to feel with your fingers by any means. And that's downright balmy if the sun is out.

    I meant to say confront, not chastise (which is what i said in the other thread), but why is Dozier even considering saying anything to him if he doesn't have a problem with it? The rest of his quote (where he suggests their veteran leaders will set the kid straight), suggests that he has a problem with it. My problem with it has little to do with how quickly they moved on (though I'm glad they moved on, if they did), or whether they were prompted or not. My problem is that they feel he did anything wrong in the first place.

    The Pirates pitchers only issued 3 walks today, so I'm not convinced the umpires strike zone was the problem.

    I don't find their opinions any more tolerable, just because they were asked and not given unprompted. And Dozier's comment that he was considering chastising the player at second base suggests it was closer to the front of his mind than the back.

    Well fair enough, and if it's a violation, I won't object to someone snipping it down. But, I think it's the proper term for the way they are acting. Perhaps I should have phrased it as a verb instead of a noun, as I didn't mean for it to be an unfounded personal attack, rather an accurate descriptor of how I feel they are acting. I don't think it's harsh at all. At least, not nearly as harsh as they are being on this player who did exactly what he should have done. All I hear all the time, on here, at the watercooler, sports talk radio, twins columns, is why don't players take the free single when teams shift. This isn't even one of those things that I understand, but disagree with (like being upset for pumping a HR), I simply can't even understand how/ why they think anything was done wrong here. And, I can't respect players that feel so entitled, that they think their team gets to keep trying, but they are disrespected if the other team does as well. And then to actually whine about it out loud. It's very poor sportsmanship, and I just can't respect it.
