  1. Santana isn't eligible to come off the DL until May 27th, and considering he's only thrown off a mound once (exclusively fastballs and changeups, no sliders), I'll be surprised if he's ready by then. That gives Romero a minimum 4 more starts.
  2. They aren't going to add him to the 40 man roster before they have to, if they don't think he's ready. I have no idea if he's ready or not, but I can see why the Twins might not think he is yet.
  3. His second half collapses are pretty concerning to me. My uneducated opinion is that he's not close to ready.
  4. After two second half collapses, I'd guess they probably want to see him hold up for a full season, then start 2019 in AAA if he does.
  5. It's more than possible, last year was the fluke. But, that was known/expected. His salary/contract reflects that he was paid based on an expectation of pre-2017 production.
  6. My uneducated guess is that Buxton returns well before then. A broken toe can be played through as it heals, if the pain can be managed. At least that's what I've heard in the past. I hope Heezy chimes in at some point with an educated opinion.
  7. I agree. And many posters here were less than impressed with the offseason pitching additions, and thought oour pitching would still be bad. Sure, we came into the year with probably more talent than most previous years, but we all know there is more to sports than just a raw measurement of talent. And every pitcher on the roster, except maybe Reed, entered the season with significant question marks.
  8. And Gardy didn't have the close personal off the field relationship that the Pohlads and Molitors have. I don't think there is much, if any chance they fire him, but I guess anything is possible.
  9. Yeah this team made its bed with the Molitor contract. Much like Phil Hughes, they aren't eating that money. No way. We have to hope he's a decent manager because he'll be here for the duration of the contract.
  10. Can't love this post enough. The one thing I can find to disagree with is overpaying for a 4th outfielder. Unless they can fix other problems quickly, that seems like a waste of assets.
  11. Well I'd have to see where these similar pitches were. This one wasn't nearly far enough inside, IMO.
  12. Thanks for posting that. I hadn't seen the game. That was definitely not a good pitch, that was right where power hitters like it. Right in his wheel house, as they say. If you are going to come inside on a power hitter, you have to come WAY inside.
  13. Guys get moved off of catcher. It's the most difficult position on the spectrum. Nobody moves to catcher.
  14. Ummm, I'm pretty sure xFIP replaces a pitcher's HR rate with league average HR rate.
  15. Well we may not have known they'd sign 7 players, but I'm guessing the FO had a fairly clear outline of player types and roles that they intended to sign. They wouldn't have known which guys they'd be able to get, of course, but they probably had a good idea of how many. I'm also going to have to see Chargois stay healthy for a significant stretch of the season before I give them any flak about that decision. It's still April, I'm sure we'll see Chargois on the DL at some point.
  16. Also, he didn't get it past the pitcher. That matters. It self evidently wasn't a gimme, because he'd have been on first base if it was. If it's a gimme, then yeah take it, I guess. But if not, then let's swing away early in a game we know we'll need a bunch of runs to win.
  17. Well sure, they could have DFA'd any player on the 40 man roster, including Kinley, yes. I didn't think the post I was responding to meant it in such an abstract, indirect manner such as that though. If they were going to DFA him before he even threw a pitch for the team though, they wouldn't have selected him in the first place.
  18. They didn't choose Kinley over Chargois. They chose Kinley over Bard and Burdi. Chargois DFA was much later, to make room for a different player.
  19. The only way that Porterhouse steak is five minutes away from being cooked perfectly, is if it's still attached to the cow. But I do get your point.
  20. That wasn't the only option that I gave. The other option is, don't sign a LOOGY when you have a manager that you know isn't going to use him properly.
  21. I'm in the minority, but i appreciate that Molitor is making lineup decisions based on the larger sample size. I simply don't believe you can predict when a hot or cold streak will start or end. To me, it should take more than a few dozen plate appearances earn or lose playing time.
  22. Not at all suggesting they micromanage Molitor. What I mean, is they chose to bring Molitor back, and they know he will not use a LOOGY. So, they have/had two choices. Hire a manager that will use a LOOGY. Or, don't sign a LOOGY, when you know your manager won't use him properly.
  23. But Molitor has made it abundantly clear with his actions that he has no intention of using a LOOGY correctly. So, that's still on the FO as well.
  24. You think Morrison's problem is that he needs further minor league development? He's 30 years old and has over 3400 MLB plate appearances. There isn't anything he's going to learn in the minors. If they don't think he can come out of the slump, you just cut him.
