    Why are the Rockies trading Gray for Sano? If they don't think they can compete this year, they'll want guys with 6+ years of control. If they think they can compete, they aren't trading Gray.

    I have about 95% confidence that Sano will outperform Cron over the next 2 seasons, which is how long Sano is under team control. So, yes.

    3.1 bWAR for $6.25M (Sano) seems like a better value than 1.2 bWAR for $6.1M (Cron) to me.

    Front loading his contract at $40 million this year would put payroll north of $150 million. I'll leave town if opening day payroll is even close to that.

    I'm as disappointed as anyone in the offseason so far, but there were 2 aces available in free agency, and it wasn't realistic to expect the Twins to be in on either of them.

    I'm just saying, that's what treading water looks like. I have no problem with someone who enjoys the regular season ride, and doesn't worry about the postseason. That's fine, I know many feel that way. That ain't me though. To me the ONLY purpose of the regular season is seeding for the games that matter. To me zero postseason wins is the exact same outcome whether it came after 101 or 41 regular season wins. Again, not saying my view is better or right, but that's how I feel.

    Does anyone know how contracts work for the assistant coaches? Is the bowl season technically in next year's contract period? I'm confused on how our OC is able to leave on a lateral move before the Bowl game.

    Because the one in the minors comes with 6 years of team control, 3 of them being at the league minimum salary. Teams place a lot of value on that.

    Not to nitpick too much, but Alcala made his Twins debut last season.

    If anything goes right now, then why are you never never ever trading for Price? Schoop was a free agent. After losing his job midseason, and being relegated to emergency back up in the playoffs, I can't imagine any chance he'd have any interest in returning to the Twins.

    He can't simultaneously be thankful for his time here, AND be ready to move on? Why not? I've said the same thing to employers when I've moved on, and meant it, even while being ready to move on. He turned down their attempts to negotiate an extension.

    But it WAS reported that they offered him an extension, and they were rebuffed. Amounts were never leaked, but he signed for such a reasonable amount with ARI that I can't imagine even this FO could have offered much less. I can imagine they might have only been willing to go two years, and perhaps that was the sticking point.

    Why limit your options though? We can always fall back on those guys if the FA's don't pan out. But if those guys are plan A, then you're stuck until the trade deadline if they fail. And that's assuming the FO isn't as afraid of deadline trade prices as they are of FA prices.

    Perhaps he just didn't want to stay here. I can't imagine the Twins offer could have been much less than that very reasonable amount. I remember a snowy game in April one year where Escobar was dressed for a 10 day trek across Antarctica. Perhaps he wanted to go somewhere warm, and it wasn't about the money.

    If they tried to sign Ryu, then it's clear they just aren't willing to play in that end of the pool, as IMO the price tag ended up being very reasonable.
