  1. Not speaking English is a con against acquiring a player? Or am I misreading that?
  2. Using technology to attempt to analyze players better than your opponents is not a form of cheating.
  3. 1) I never said "replacement level". I said league average. The fact that his OPS was 6% better than league average for all positions isn't an opinion, it's factual. 2) Last year was a historical year for offense. You have to compare his numbers to his peers, not to Twins hitters 25 years ago, 10 years ago, or even 3 years ago. 3) You listed BA, HR, and RBI. You left out on base percentage, which is his biggest weakness. Not making outs is pretty important in a game where the other team can't beat you unless you make 27 outs (barring weather shortened finals). 4) I don't recall using any "new age" stats. On base % and slugging % are as old as the game itself. 5) There is really no reason to refer to opinions that you disagree with using such terms as "fantasy", "noise", "contrived", "stooges", and "tired". Especially when the post you are referring to really had little in the way of opinion and was mostly just citing facts.
  4. Rosario's bat was 6 percent better than league average last year. And that includes catchers, middle infielders and center fielders. So his bat was likely less than league average for corner outfielders. Of course, there is no guarantee that you'll get league average production from a replacement. But, I wouldn't say it'd be hard to imagine.
  5. Jeffers has outhit Garver at both high A and AA, while being younger at both levels.
  6. Great point. I agree.
  7. What were their home/ road splits in the 2017 postseason? I don't see why they'd bother doing it in the regular season.
  8. The fact that Kyle Schwarber was also a finalist for this award tells me that it's not exclusively based on defense.
  9. You are way more optimistic than I am that these two won't just slide right back in somewhere after a year. And, none of this speaks to any punishment for the players. I personally don't understand why the players are getting off scot free.
  10. He was one level behind Turner because Turner was a 3rd rd pick, Garver was a 9th rd pick, and Garver struggled in rookie ball. Not because the club was holding him back. You are going to have to give me specific examples of when he was held back, rather than just insisting he was. He never repeated a level, and caught and passed Turner when his performance warranted it.
  11. Yeah it's not comparable. Knowing what pitch is coming is multiple times more of an advantage than PED's, it's not even close, IMO.
  12. What year was Garver held back? I can maybe see an argument that he could have skipped low A, but as a 9th round pick that struggled in a half season of rookie ball I can't really blame them for that assignment. From then on out it looks like he was promoted appropriately. He caught, then passed Turner, despite starting a level lower. He had a really good year in low A his first full year in the organization. He struggled MIGHTILY at A+ in his second year, yet the Twins didn't make him repeat high A, they promoted him to AA anyway. That's holding him back? At AA he was better, but still not great, yet once again they didn't make him repeat, they promoted him to AAA. Is that holding him back? At AAA he had a break out season, and was promoted to the Twins. I guess I'm not seeing where he was held back.
  13. What mistake? Turner was left unprotected and left, Garver is our starting C, seems the organization got that one right.
  14. In reading Pipeline's write up, I think the lofty ranking was heavily weighted by the opinion that he could be MLB ready almost immediately. That clearly wasn't the case, as he only made it to A ball, and struggled there. His position on Twins prospect lists likely reflects that updated reality.
  15. Josh Donaldson has been worth 5+ WAR every year of his career except one. What "good" player are you going to get that comes close to that for $8M?
  16. Ok, that at least makes some sense, though I still disagree with that poster. I read it as him saying that Polanco isn't very good and we should trade him before everyone else realizes it.
  17. Not only that, but a player of Polanco's performance, at his age and contract is every team's dream. I don't understand how this is even a discussion, barring a complete rebuild.
  18. Going to be tough for the Twins to recoup their investment on Yunior Severino if they really paid him a nine figure signing bonus. I'm guessing you meant seven figures?
  19. I'm surprised this thread has gone this far given the title. IMO the clear answer is yes. The end.
  20. Even with the injuries and college I still think calling May a late bloomer is fair. When you draft a college player, it's reasonable to expect them to develop faster. I can agree with Garver though, catcher is a different animal altogether.
  21. It looks to me like overall age combined with relative lack of prospect status.
  22. And I agree with all of it except keeping Spielman. Right now this team is in the absolute worst spot you can be- mediocre.
  23. Still has some value? Where is this coming from? Polanco is 26, and just put up a 6 WAR season with MVP votes.
  24. I don't agree. I think pro athletes cherish their championship rings more than just about anything else they own. (The ones fortunate enough to have one.) You start taking those back, I think you catch their attention, IMO.
  25. I'd make Larnach the favorite over Kirilloff if an OF spot were to open up, though I think it's close.
