  1. He doesn't need to be on the active roster to be eligible for the postseason roster. He just needs to be on the 40 man roster by 8/31. Theoretically, they could add him to the 40 man roster on 8/31, then call him up in September, and he'd still be eligible.
  2. I wouldn't be so sure about that. His OPS is down to .793 now. If he continues to struggle the rest of the year, they might be able to match his production for the league minimum.
  3. I apologize if I misunderstood you. You're comments seemed to attempt to speak to more than just a one game sample size. I would think one would need to see more than one appearance to make the type of claims you were making about him.
  4. I couldn't find a specific salary for Falvey and Levine. But a few sources claim that most GM's make between 500k and 2 million per year. 500k per year puts you in the top half of the top 1%. So yeah, defintely the big bucks.
  5. I think he'll make a good replacement for Adrianza. If they don't trade him.
  6. I was responding to the idea that he shouldn't be swinging on a 2-0 count. Hitting major league pitching is hard. If I had to guess, I'd imagine he thought he was swinging at a pitch in the zone when he committed to his swing.
  7. The whole point of working a count in your favor is to get a good pitch to hit. Why wouldn't we want Sano swinging on a 2-0 count? His career OPS, by the way, in 2-0 counts is .926.
  8. He's 7% better than league average this season. So even if you want to toss out last season as an outlier, he's still by definition a #3 on an average team.
  9. Wouldn't an average pitcher, by definition, be a #3 on an average team? Gibson is 13% better than an average pitcher, by ERA, since the beginning of last year.
  10. Buxton and Astudillo won't be back until September. Rosters are expanded then, so there won't be a crunch issue with them.
  11. I would think they'd do it before 9/1, so there are no hoops to jump through to get him on the playoff roster.
  12. I'm not suggesting they get it on the cheap. I'm disputing the suggestion that they are getting it on the cheap now.
  13. The keyword in post was "relatively" unskilled. As in relative to other jobs that pay $50 an hour. I can't imagine that MLB teams have any shortage of well qualified people who would love to earn that much in a side job that involves watching baseball for money.
  14. I mean, $50 an hour for a relatively unskilled job is a pretty good side gig.
  15. Minor point. He's going to get a hit a lot more than 25% of the time on a 3-0 count, especially when he knows a bp meatball is coming down the middle of the plate. His career sample size on 3-0 is too small to cite, but he's a career .378 hitter when ahead in the count. In that situation it's going to be a hit probably 60+ % of the time.
  16. His 6th inning ERA this year is 3.00 (4 ER/12IP). His worst inning is actually the 1st inning, and by a lot. (5.16)
  17. Are there reports that his thumb is still injured?
  18. So many head scratching details in that article. Here is one that particularly stands out to me: "Francona brushed it off as no big deal, saying that his mind had been wrapped around devising ways for the Red Sox to come back in the final frame and that he hadn’t even noticed." So, the opposing manager is devising a way to come back and win the game, but the other team isn't supposed to attempt to expand the lead? This is baffling logic to me. That article didn't make anything clearer to me. It's chock full of contradictory logic, such as the notion that taking a pitch is supposed to expedite the finish of the game. Really, the only thing that article did for me is leave me with an absolute disgust for Ron Gardenhire. Reading this completely explains why his teams had zero success in the playoffs. While Terry Francona is focused on scratching and clawing at any opening to come back and win the game, Gardenhire is dragging his young player to a back alley meeting with the opposing manager to apologize for having the audacity to try to play aggressive baseball.
  19. I don't understand what the count has to do with any of it. Is the team allowed to continue to compete, or not? I can't comprehend why they are allowed to continue to compete if the count is 2-2, but not if it's 3-0.
  20. Not if Garver already wasn't going to catch that day.
