  1. Watching the WS and a great Blue Jays team go toe to toe with the LA Dodgers (the best team money can buy) it's very hard to believe the Twins beat them in the playoffs just a couple of years ago. So things can change fast. But looking at the Twins' 40 man roster - they obviously have an awful lot of work to do - and quite possibly weak ownership support to do it. So....their next WS window will come when there are flying cars.
  2. Shelton is about to go through the baseball version of The Revenant. I just hope the man survives. He can always take shelter inside a dead horse.
  3. How low? As low as the German U boat in Das Boot. Each game, a fan will be picked at random out of the stands to play first base.
  4. IMO Wallner is too passive as a hitter. It seemed like he often stared at a fastball right down the middle like a deer in the headlights with men on base. Or he was arguing with the umpire after taking a pitch that was an eighth of an inch off the plate. Maybe it's lack of pitch recognition as another commenter mentioned - or just his overall approach between his ears. Regardless, because of his limitations in the field and hitting against lefties, he has some serious off season work to do to remain in ML baseball.
  5. It always seems counterintuitive to me to finally develop a quality starting pitcher, and then almost immediately start shopping him around. But that's the reality. If they were serious about building a starting pitching staff that could contend, then Ryan would be a part of it. Instead, it feels like an old Tarzan movie with the team slowly sinking into the quicksand. Nothing will be left behind but the Twins cap.
  6. Zoilo will always be my favorite SS. He was an integral part of the Twins team in their first World Series against the vaunted Koufax/Drysdale juggernaut in 1965 when I was 10 years old. And I remember the teacher who confiscated my transistor radio that I snuck into class to listen to the World Series. Cruel.
  7. If ever there was a guy the Twins should stay the course on, it's Lewis. He looks out of sorts at bat - often lunging at the ball. But it seems like something that experience and a good hitting coach can improve. And he looks better in the field.
  8. They already signed the highly coveted Ryan Kreidler. What more do you want?
  9. Lee is about as slow as a back up catcher, and somebody had the brilliant idea that that was perfect for a first round pick ML shortstop. Then the Twins fired the entire scouting department plus the guy who mops the floor on the second stadium level. Coincidence? I think not.
  10. Wallner starts with an extremely wide open stance and then kind of dives into the ball. It seems like a good hitting coach could work with him on some improvement.
  11. Houston, you have a problem. Welcome to the shortstop realm of dysfunction.
  12. Adams had a 7.00+ ERA and Lawyerson is a 27 year old Quad A player. But I hope you're right and they become Aguilera and Nathan.
  13. "Losing is a disease. It is as contagious as polio, syphilis, and the bubonic plague, affecting one person, but infecting all." - The Natural. Therefore the Twins should hire a good doctor as manager and thoroughly disinfect Target Field ASAP.
  14. The trend in the Major Leagues is to have relievers come out of the pen and throw gas in the upper 90's or even 100. Lawyerson can't do that. But I think you'll get your wish and he'll get a long look. In Twins-like fashion, they'll probably go in the opposite direction of the rest of the league. Between Lawyerson and Ohl, they'll be throwing slow pitch softball at 'em.
  15. I'm highly skeptical that Festa is out of the woods with his shoulder issues. Adams looked awful. And Lawyerson's stuff doesn't play with the big boys. Next.
  16. What it teaches us is that the Twins will always be the among the second tier teams that trade away the professional hitters like Polanco, while the fans perpetually wait in excited anticipation for the (giggle, snort, chortle) superstars of tomorrow like Gonzalez.
  17. Here's an option that probably won't work, the GM won't do, and everybody's going to hate: Austin Martin to 1B. He's played infield, so he sort of knows how to field a ground ball. He's athletic so he has decent range. It puts his bat and speed in the line up everyday which IMO is a good thing. And it loosens up the "logjam" of new Twins outfield "superstars".
  18. He's left handed so has more lives than a cat. He reminds me of a left handed version of Alcala - throws hard but always just one tweak away from success - and it never comes.
  19. Most important games of the year now - and there Polanco is at 2B. But yeah the Twins are probably better off with guys like Julien and Clemens.
  20. I've seen runners wearing oven mitts on both hands now. Pretty hard to mangle your thumb when sliding wearing those. Keaschall should try it. Or maybe find a mitt that fits his whole body.
  21. Lee is slow, which is not a good attribute to have if you're a shortstop. And the Twins knew that when they drafted him in the first round. Yet another questionable personnel decision.
  22. The 6th Pohlad payroll level is like the hide the ball game they play on the Twins scoreboard. They move it around at warp speed until you have no idea where it's at.
