  1. I'll enjoy the season no matter what happens because I enjoy baseball. It's worth remembering that almost all the superlatives they're saying about Jenkins they were saying about Lewis not so long ago. Baseball is hard. They have to prove it on the ML field. You never know what you're going to get.
  2. Being a Twins fan just before the season starts is like sitting in the beach house you've been told to evacuate just before the category 5 hurricane hits. There must be greater baseball minds at work in the Twins' front office that fans can't hope to understand.
  3. It seems like a set lineup is a thing of the past. They now go with a shape shifting lineup based on the stats that R2D2 spits out against the pitcher of the day.
  4. I know 99% disagree with me, but IMO the Twins should put some of those strong right arms that they optioned out to work in the bullpen. Matthews and Klein are 2 examples that could probably help. It doesn't have to mean they're relievers for life. Garrett Crochet, for example, started in the bullpen and is now an elite starter. But Zoll doesn't return my calls.
  5. Most importantly, Funderburk has the HAIR to be a shutdown late inning reliever.
  6. My vote would be the glove first guy - Kreidler. It's going to be a defensively challenged team (among other things) so they need all the help they can get. Arcia looks a little sluggish.
  7. I agree - they should bring E- Rod up and play him every day. Ted Williams was 22 years old when he hit .406. Give E-Rod a chance to hit .407!
  8. The Twins have holes in their line-up and a ragged bullpen, so they'll have their problems even if the rotation turns out to be the finest in ML baseball. But I'll give them credit for making the right call and giving Abel the opportunity. Now bring up E-Rod.
  9. Topa looked better today. There was only one scalding hot smash to the outfield wall, after which he was immediately removed for his own protection. Hendriks might have been the better bet.
  10. From an article in the paper it's clear that Hendriks has a great sense of humor. He's going to need it.
  11. That's the far bigger question - how long can they stick with the anemic hitting Lewis. He's trying a new batting approach. But he often still looks like he has no pitch recognition at all. Buxton went through that early in his career. They can only hope Lewis will figure it out like Buxton did.
  12. I agree with you. They need a good fastball. Having said that, generally I think the Twins may be putting too much emphasis on velocity. That may be why the Festas and Matthews, etc. are developing arm trouble. IMO they don't have to try to throw upper 90's to be successful. It's a fine line.
  13. Off topic because he's not a starting pitcher candidate, but I wonder why John Klein didn't get more of a look for the bullpen. It's not as though they're flush with right handed pitching out there. It's like a trap door opened and he vanished.
  14. Funderburk will get traded for a left handed hitting outfielder.
  15. They should try Matthews in the bullpen. It might even help him refine his command.
  16. The article refers to Matthews and "experience and stability" as though he's Jim Perry or something. Matthews performance has been anything but stable. Abel has my vote until he proves otherwise.
  17. From some of the previous comments in other articles - I didn't realize that E-Rod strikes out as much as he does, and Gonzalez struggles in the field. If that's the case, I'm not sure why they've been rated as high as they are. And Prielipp, in addition to the health problems, to this point has more hits to innings pitched and issues with control. It may be a struggling franchise trying to pump up players to give fans hope.
  18. On the Twins team, I like the "piggyback" pitcher's chances better than whatever "has been" reliever that they're going to drag out of the bullpen. But you're right it's something different so they'd never do it.
  19. It'd be a crime against humanity if Abel doesn't make this team. If necessary, they could go with a 6 man rotation. They could have SWR or Ober scheduled for 4 or 5 innings and Abel or Matthews to finish. 4 innings is all SWR usually goes anyway. Why not plan for it?
  20. The Guardians are really squandering the (probably future Hall of Famer) Jose Ramirez years.
  21. The only stretching Babe Ruth ever did was to reach for his next drink, and he was fine. It's high time for the Twins to turn to the physical fitness regimen of the 1920's. Nothing else is working.
  22. The rotation has a chance to be pretty exciting with Ryan, Ober, SWR, Abel, and Bradley. The bullpen is still pretty weak (well...terrifying). Hopefully, they'll still make some kind of move yet to shore it up, or even try Matthews out there.
  23. Tom Kelly always preached a philosophy of "catch the ball, and get the outs that you're supposed to get." The Twins as an organization seem to have lost sight of that. The only starting player with a stellar glove is Buxton.
