  1. I wasn't listening to the old Senators but I did start with the Twins in 61. I can see the Twins getting into post season but not all the way to the Series. Not in what's left of my lifetime.
  2. I'm not big on analytics. I listen to my gut. When a reliever comes in if I cringe there is a reason. Like if Thielbar came in I would cringe. He's either going to be good or very bad. Which one are we going to see this time? Last year I cringed a lot when Duran came in. He blew a lot of games and it seems he did better in save situations than non save. Perhaps an attitude problem? I think the ringing the gong and fire on sign board thing is getting old. I sometimes wonder if some players take things like that and feel too self important, trying too hard to live up to the hype and not succeeding. Jax had some rocky times in 23 but was awesome in 24, solid and consistent. I think he should be the #1 closer.
  3. This is the most thoughtful post I've read in a long time. I was sorry to see Correa go in 22 and glad when they signed him again. Have have mixed feelings the past two years about offense not defence. If he is at his best this year he will be an asset. Thanks for your insights.
  4. He strikes me that way too and has publicly said as much when he signed his big contract. The problem is I see him as the kind of player that puts too much pressure on himself to do more than he is capable of and doesn't succeed. So many people posting here attribute so much leadership to Correa. I'm not on the field or in the club house so I don't know. What are people seeing that I'm not?
  5. Aside from checking this website daily I re-watch Twins games on MLB-TV, looking up scores first to only pick games they won.
  6. Since they are the Orioles time flew by? Maybe could happen for Twins.
  7. I've been saying this. It's at least a possibility.
  8. "For Lewis, I think it’s only fair to pick a position in spring training and go with it rather than have him bounce around" I agree. Unfortunately unless there is a manager change that becomes hard. ---- Actually if EVERYONE stays healthy and EVERYONE plays at their best ALL year and a young pitcher like Festa can start going more than 5 innings and if the manager will let him instead of pulling him for the match up I think we can win this thing.
  9. My childhood. My favorite memory like that is being in a tent, at night, in the middle of the mountains of Colorado, and being able hear the game on my hometown station WHO hundreds of miles away.
  10. "You've gotta have heart All you really need is heart When the odds are sayin' you'll never win That's when the grin should start" Funny thing is that in the musical Damn Yankees the team in question was the Washington Senators.
  11. Great article. I'd like to see more articles reporting important info than wishes and opinions (not that those aren't fun too). I don't spend enough time sifting through news and trades of other teams and it's good to see what the division is doing.
  12. Maybe I shouldn't use a quote this long but very well said. First a player needs an identity, a place to fit in. Second the team needs an identity with a lineup that plays well together as one unit. When the manager moves people around so much neither happens. I would rather see more players have a chance succeed and fail than to not give them a chance at all.
  13. "You put your third baseman in You take your third baseman out You move second base to third And you shake it all about You do the hokey pokey And pinch hit for number 1 That’s what it’s all about" How can new players settle in if the manager plays it like a game? Lacking identity seems to be the thing here.
  14. Baldelli makes me think about the definition of insanity, doing the same thing over and over expecting a different result, like pinch hitting Margo 30 times because he puts faith in the match up but not the reality of what's happening on the field. He also is clueless how to develop promising new players that aren't quite there yet. If he's liked by the players is it because he's too laid back. too mechanical, too disconnected ? If I had to choose between making logical roster changes and keeping Baldelli or dumping Baldelli and keeping the same roster I'd go with the later.
  15. Even with a compensation pick I think Sonny Gray was the bigger fish to get away.
  16. Vasquez should be traded away for anything they can get or given away to reduce salary. There has to be some team that wants an experienced catcher that doesn't hit much. I am against getting rid of Lopez. The Twins need an experienced veteran pitcher to solidify the starting rotation. He didn't have a great 24 but even as he continually got himself in jams he then got himself out and continued farther into his games. Many pitchers start having trouble and then fall apart. The Twins need someone like Lopez. I can see his leadership being an assert. Many members here apply the same leadership qualities to Carlos Correa. I'm not quite seeing that. The trade or keep Carlos is perhaps the most divisive topic around here. A lot of passionate disagreement with letting him go. But if salary reduction is a must I'd rather have him go and than Lopez.
  17. " I said, WAR, huh (good God, y'all) What is it good for? Absolutely nothing, just say it again "
  18. I assume a big factor in who players sign with is money. Correa already has money. I was talking about the future. Maybe I should have said "Maybe he wants to be in another World Series". Given the ownership and the manager 2025 doesn't look likely to be 1991.
  19. You're not breaking anything to me. The Twins have talent. They also have a manager that doesn't know what to do with it and ownership that doesn't really care about building even a good team. Does anyone think the Twins will be in the World Series in 25? Correa has been in a WS. Maybe he wants to again.
  20. I was at the dome for the beginning and end of the 9 consecutive hits. I didn't get to the dome much since I lived in Nebraska but I had clients that worked in Minneapolis. When I told them my wife and I were coming to for a short vacation they gave me their season tickets for Friday and Sunday. Sixth row between Home and Third, end of an aisle. Hatcher started the streak Friday and ended Sunday. It drew a lot of excitement in the crowd and they ended up being the two best games I ever saw anywhere. Twins won both. Friday was a home run fest I think 11-10 in extra innings. Sunday a pitchers duel 1-0 or something like that. I'll never forget that.
  21. I don't think Baldelli knows how to manage players like these.
  22. It was fun watching Santana playing great defense at first. It brightened many a game where otherwise the Twins stunk. His offense stats may not have been great but he got his share of clutch hits. Not sure I would downplay defense at first so much. He probably wouldn't have a year like last year but I will still miss him. I REALLY want to see Miranda play somewhere. Full time and healthy.

    Castro

They are paying Vasquez $10,000,000 to be a part time catcher that can't hit much. If they trade Castro it's clear they are trying to strip payroll to make it easier to sell the team and could care less about winning. Maybe my memory isn't good but other than Lopez I can't think of any recent trades that have gone well for the Twins.
