  1. The Twins should approach this off-season with the premise that Correa, Buxton and Lopez will be on the roster for the next several years and work around that. Trading any of them would be a kill shot for this organization.
  2. Joe Pohlad trades either Correa or Buxton and Target Field will be empty next summer. He may not necessarily 'care' what the fans think but I don't think his skin is that thick. They might have to attach a low-level prospect to unload Vazquez or Paddack.
  3. Mostly agree although if you're giving Miranda a D+, I don't see how Jeffers gets a C. Down the stretch, Jeffers didn't look like a MLB player either at the plate or behind it. Depending on how they feel about Camargo, I could see Jeffers' name dangled as trade bait. Not sure what they could get him for him but shedding the salary might be their biggest priority.
  4. My bad. Forgot about Buck!
  5. This... Correa's importance to the Twins can't be understated. Hopefully the plantar fasciitis is a thing of the past and he can stay on the field in 2025. For as bad as the Twins were in certain areas, I don't have any doubts that if Correa didn't miss two months of the season, we're getting ready for playoff baseball. I also hope that some young guys (looking at Mr. Lewis) follow Correa's lead and do what it takes to improve.
  6. Will be sad to see Max go. The only player (along with Buck) left from the Bomba Squad. Coming off a down season that featured a potentially lingering injury, I don't think his contract would be prohibitive even for a Twins' team that will want to add significant payroll. But, Max on the team takes away playing time from Larnach, Wallner and potentially Rodriguez. All good things come to an end and that's the case with Max. Will miss his steady hand in RF - was never an adventure out there for him and he made the hard plays look easy. Wish him well wherever his next stop is.
  7. 2001 wasn't that disappointing. That was such a young team. You knew the future was bright. 1992 is the most disappointing for me. That three game sweep against Oakland in the Metrodome. IIRC, Randy Ready hit a kill-shot homer off Aguilera. Oofda! It was also an old team with Smiley hitting free agency. Kind of saw that as the end of a championship window and that certainly proved to the case. 2024 - is what it is. When Joe Ryan got hurt and the Twins responded with Zebby Matthews, the writing was on the wall.
  8. If a manager doesn't matter, then he's a bad manager. If players are taking the field and trying to figure it out on their own, the manager isn't doing his job. The only thing crazier than saying managers don't matter is all the excuses made for Rocco.
  9. The rationale of the Rocco supporters would mean that MLB managers are never deservedly fired. A legitimate question is if this month of September doesn't warrant a change, what does? 2021 did. 2022 did. 2024 did. This isn't Rocco's first rodeo with epic collapses down the stretch.
  10. Clown show organization.
  11. Francona had been there a while. He was admittedly tired. Managers have a shelf life. That's not blaming him. What would be the reason for their turnaround? What changed? Other than the manager...or, maybe Clase really did find some undetectable PHDs.
  12. Exhibit A and Exhibit B. The Cleveland Guardians and the New York Mets. Interesting how two teams that missed the post-season in 2023 suddenly remembered how to hit and pitch in 2024. I wonder why? Must have been some major changes to the respective rosters. Hmm...that's not it. Oh wait. New managers! Managers matter.
  13. SWR definitely a bright spot in a season that turned out to be quite underwhelming. Excited to see him in 2025.
  14. Royce was right. He doesn't 'do slumps'. This isn't a slump. This is who he is as a hitter right now. He better get to work this off-season.
  15. Oh, the irony of Povich shutting out the Twins tonight.
  16. Welp, that one puts a bow on the 2024 season. Fitting, in a sad way, that a team that was 0-26 with RISP in March and April, went 2-19 with RISP in a must-win game. If Rocco's retained and they gut the rest of the coaching staff - it's just rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic - but that's what I fully expect them to do.
  17. I've seen a few folks theorize that missing the playoffs might be what prompts Joe Pohlad to make sweeping changes. Eh. Not so sure on that. I can see status quo regardless of what happens over the next 4 games. So might as well take your shot in the playoffs however unrealistic it might be...
  18. Royals represent the best chance for the Twins to make the playoffs. IIRC, they go to Atlanta this weekend and the Braves are playing for their post-season lives. Not sure the Twins can take care of business on their end with the Orioles, but I do suspect KC will drop 2 of 3 against the Braves. If the Twins can somehow pick a game today, and go 2-1 against Baltimore and have KC go 1-2...there's your path.
  19. Too soon to look ahead to 2025 but I wouldn't concede anything to Cleveland, Detroit or Kansas City. For all the bad luck and injuries endured by the Twins, those teams had a lot go their way. No telling if they're that fortunate again next year.
  20. I'm thinking whatever he was told, he's inside his own head and could use a different voice.
  21. After they got swept by Kansas City, IIRC, Rocco tried the tough love routine and took to writing on the white board. The team then came out even flatter and more lifeless than they were against the Royals and lost to one of the worst teams in baseball. I agree that baseball doesn't necessarily have the same level of 'strategy' as you see in the other pro sports. See ball, hit ball. See ball, catch ball. I guess it could be that simple. But more than the other sports, I think you need to have a manager that can push the right buttons and get his team to respond. 162 games is a long season. There's going to be highs and lows. Good managers have the pulse of their team and the players respond in kind. This team doesn't respond to Rocco. If they did, they wouldn't be in such a tailspin right now.
  22. This goes for quite a few Twins' players - I'd be curious to see what they look like with a different approach at the plate. Not saying a new hitting instructor would be a miracle worker - but it wouldn't necessarily hurt. I look to Brent Rooker as the cautionary tale of giving up on someone too early in their career.
  23. I've seen way too many mental errors and mistakes from the players. I've seem them look disinterested and lackadaisical. It was happening way too often and it usually happens when the team culture allows it to happen. Employees show up to work everyday and perform in the way that some Twins' players performed, the folks at the top of the food chain aren't going to blame the employees - the first stop is with the person tasked with managing those employees. For the posters that want to put the bulk of responsibility on the players, why then does a MLB team ever fire their manager? What does it take?
  24. It is alarming to see some of the Twins 'prospects' completely fall flat on their face as opponents develop a scouting report.
