    No reason to concede anything in the AL Central. The Guardians, Tigers, and Royals have as many flaws as the Twins do. The primary difference in 2024 was health. If Correa doesn't miss 2 months, the Twins would have been in the post-season. Admittedly, there's no guarantees or even confidence that Correa can stay on the field in 2025...but even so, injuries sometimes have a way of evening out and the Guards especially had a pretty charmed life in that regard. I for one don't think Cleveland's bullpen is going to pitch at the same level in 2025 and that alone will bring them back to the pack. If Clase's post-season hiccups were a sign of the league adjusting to whatever made him unhittable, then the Guards are in trouble.

    This. I'd be surprised if someone buys the team only to cut or maintain payroll and deal with low attendance and everything that comes with it. That doesn't necessarily mean the owners will be the 'right' ones but I do think there will be an uptick in payroll.

    Oh, and who knows - even if the Pohlad's do sell - the transaction might not be finished until well into 2025 or even 2026. This stuff can and does take a lot of time.

    Welp, so much for a boring off-season. It very well might be in terms of personnel moves, but overall, things could get really interesting. No guarantees that new owners will make things better - but also, no guarantees that the new owners won't be serious about winning a world series. I'm going to err on the side of optimism. This fan base is due for something positive and nothing would be more positive than owners that want to win and win big.

    They trade Correa and my fandom card which has been active since 1986 is officially shredded. I'd be done with this team.

    Team MVP? That's Carlos Correa. Team fell off a cliff without him. But that doesn't take away from what SWR accomplished. Really liked what he showed in 2024 and I think there's big time upside going forward.

    The Twins don't want to pay two managers at the same time. That's what prompted this decision. If you're judging it on finances, sure, it's the right move. If you're judging it on baseball, 2021, 2022 and 2024 say hi.

    During the peak of those Piranha teams, I used to think the media love for the Twins' playing fundamental baseball was kind of a backhanded compliment to mask the fact that they lacked top-end talent. However, after watching 2024, I miss the days when the Twins didn't consistently beat themselves. Way too many baserunning mistakes, fielding mistakes, etc..

    I was pretty high on Maki based on how Ober and Ryan finished 2023, and the development of Sands and Jax. But...oofda! I think he's safe for 2025. SWR took a big step forward and I think Festa has some upside as well, but even with that, Maki is on the hot seat.

    Oct. 2: In addition to Popkins, the Twins announced that assistant hitting coaches Rudy Hernandez and Derek Shoman will not return to the staff next season. Infield coach/assistant bench coach Tony Diaz also will not return to next year’s staff. The rest of the group is expected to return.

    I still don't know why the Twins hired Popkins in the first place. Appeared to be a likeable guy and maybe he was a good communicator with the players - helped them identify things with their swing or footing in the box or some such things - but he had ZERO experience. I just never got the sense that he was going to be able to put a plan together against a stud pitcher or help the team work its way out of a funk.

    Oh, Lawson... No thank you. The knock on the Yankees' offense - sitting back and waiting for the homerun - way too many strikeouts. And that's with a line-up that's deeper and more talented than what the Twins' have. The philosophy is too similar to what we've seen.

    Cruz was such a presence for the Twins. Not sure he's the answer though. Twins need to get this one right and I'd prefer someone with coaching experience. You don't have to look too hard to find the last time they made an unproven coaching commodity the job - it was Popkins. Admittedly, I think Cruz has forgotten more about hitting than Popkins will ever know - but the inexperience factor looms large to me.

    Someone help me out because I'm not necessarily understanding the impact of the TV deal that got botched this summer - when the Twins signed Correa in 2023 and gave Pablo that extension - what was different then versus now? Did the TV deal make that much of a difference? And if so, is there anything that can change in a positive way so that the payroll restraints are loosened?

    The Twins should approach this off-season with the premise that Correa, Buxton and Lopez will be on the roster for the next several years and work around that. Trading any of them would be a kill shot for this organization.

    Joe Pohlad trades either Correa or Buxton and Target Field will be empty next summer. He may not necessarily 'care' what the fans think but I don't think his skin is that thick. They might have to attach a low-level prospect to unload Vazquez or Paddack.

    Mostly agree although if you're giving Miranda a D+, I don't see how Jeffers gets a C. Down the stretch, Jeffers didn't look like a MLB player either at the plate or behind it. Depending on how they feel about Camargo, I could see Jeffers' name dangled as trade bait. Not sure what they could get him for him but shedding the salary might be their biggest priority.

    This... Correa's importance to the Twins can't be understated. Hopefully the plantar fasciitis is a thing of the past and he can stay on the field in 2025. For as bad as the Twins were in certain areas, I don't have any doubts that if Correa didn't miss two months of the season, we're getting ready for playoff baseball. I also hope that some young guys (looking at Mr. Lewis) follow Correa's lead and do what it takes to improve.

    Will be sad to see Max go. The only player (along with Buck) left from the Bomba Squad. Coming off a down season that featured a potentially lingering injury, I don't think his contract would be prohibitive even for a Twins' team that will want to add significant payroll. But, Max on the team takes away playing time from Larnach, Wallner and potentially Rodriguez. All good things come to an end and that's the case with Max. Will miss his steady hand in RF - was never an adventure out there for him and he made the hard plays look easy. Wish him well wherever his next stop is.

    2001 wasn't that disappointing. That was such a young team. You knew the future was bright. 1992 is the most disappointing for me. That three game sweep against Oakland in the Metrodome. IIRC, Randy Ready hit a kill-shot homer off Aguilera. Oofda! It was also an old team with Smiley hitting free agency. Kind of saw that as the end of a championship window and that certainly proved to the case. 2024 - is what it is. When Joe Ryan got hurt and the Twins responded with Zebby Matthews, the writing was on the wall.
