  1. "We have to chuckle that kids 12-16 have to work full time in Latin America in an attempt to draw interest and hope for a contract to play baseball someday in America. MLB managed to collude on the amount teams can spend while evading the obvious solution of a global draft. Imperialism lives on." An interesting thought that I'm not sure I agree with. Are you assuming Latin American countries are impoverished, starving nations? I would say they are likely poorer than the US, but by no means destitute or ignorant. Teams build baseball academies to support the growth of the game in those countries and most importantly scout for talent. I don't believe it's either "work full time" playing baseball in the hope of getting an MLB contract, or starve. It must certainly be enticing to those young players and their families, but it's not like they can't work towards other gainful employment, right? I am all for an international draft, or some combination of a domestic and international draft. But to call the current system imperial seems misguided.
  2. Who's the Juan Soto in the 2025 bunch? I'll take as many whacks at that pinata as possible please.
  3. Are you all kidding me with these takes? Kepler is an average hitter and above average defender. Great player to have on your team, especially at the contracts we gave him. What hype train are people referring to? The Twins Daily poster expectation hype train? I have always seen and appreciated Max for what he is. Come on. And now everyone wants to give Sano a pass and blame the organization for his failures? Give me a break. At various times throughout his career here he was an easy choice for Twins Daily public enemy #1. Constantly out of shape, lots of off field troubles, inability to somehow simultaneously not catch up to fastballs OR recognize off-speed stuff. The Twins org is by no means perfect, but blaming them for Sano's inability to have a strong, sustainable career is laughable. And stop railing on our coaching. Yes, we make too many fundamental mistakes on the field, and it is infuriating. But extrapolating that out to mean we don't develop MLB players is ridiculous. Joe Ryan, Pablo Lopez, Carlos Santana, Bailey Ober, Ryan Jeffers, Matt Walner...all developed with us or got better once joining our organization. Just off the very top of my head.
  4. This is a good team. I would prioritize the following moves in this order: 1) Replace Paddock with a mid-tier starter. Perhaps the Japanese phenom (can't remember his name), perhaps a trade. But that would mean our #5 is SWR and two great rookies next in line. I would take that rotation 10 out of 10 years. 2) Keep Jax as a BP arm and add 1 good lefty specialist. 3) Do whatever you need to trade Vasquez and all of his salary. Bring in a league minimum, defense first backup or roll with Jair. 4) Most of the offense is handled with in-house options. I believe our returning players will mostly outpace last year's numbers with new hitting coaching. This is a playoff team, led by its dominant pitching staff.
  5. Cuban may be a "lead out in front" type of guy, but he set the Mavs up for success for a long time. Who cares if he wants to sit courtside or right behind the dugout? He was a very good owner, and I don't think he's deserving of the "clown" title. You want someone to pony up 1.5 billion dollars, then fade into the background? Who does that? You and I will likely never see 1 million dollars, let alone 1.5 billion. Get real.
  6. Ok, fair enough on the timeline. I read your post as bargain bin shopping and late season acquisitions together. I see you were more talking about WHEN things happen and not indicating we ONLY bargain shop. They do tend to wait out the market. They do like a good deal, and those usually happen at the later stages of the offseason. Other posters have indicated that's ALL they do. That's just not true.
  7. Why would we pay way too much to bring in Goldy when we have multiple good in-house options for first? First and foremost Jose Miranda. Second, not on second anymore, Eduard Julien. Third, comeback kid 3 years running AK. Seriously, 1B feels like the absolute LEAST of our concerns. Go out and trade for a young, good, cost controlled starting pitcher... (COUGH Luzardo COUGH). Figure out the bullpen. Get in a hitting coach team that can get better results.
  8. Last year was a year constrained. I get that. But since when has this front office only shopped bargain bin, dumpster dive, etc free agents? I can think of 3 times this front office signed free agents that were very expensive off the top of my head. Can you all? Stop with the confirmation bias.
  9. Santana was a good sign last year. He had a great year, should win a gold glove and hit plenty enough to justify the contract. Would I love an .850 OPS from our 1B? You bet. Was Santana a great signing? YES. Is Goldschmidt going to put up an .850 OPS next year? Unlikely. I'm fine not bring Santana back, but don't hate on his season. It was very good, and that's before you look at clubhouse presence and other intangibles. Give the man his due.
  10. Time to get the bats Right and push the energy. Playoffs or bust, folks.
  11. Does Kutter throw a cutter? I hope they are able to play. I have a ton of faith that Pablo can deliver a long start, and maybe feasting on Boston's tired bullpen can get the bats ignited.
  12. Oh boy, way to start off the thread with a hot take guaranteed to get you loved and admired by the fanbase. Forget logic, forget reasoning, forget positivity, I just want to see the world burn. Lash out, cry out, hate, despair, angst, frustration, burn, it, all. Find a new hobby.
  13. I enjoyed reading the article. Interesting to try to quantify the intangibles that spread out the results. One thing to note: Atlanta is coming to town. Take a look at where they land on the graph.
  14. I really like Santana, and absolutely hated all the capital H Hate he got on his signing. He has been a great player for us when you consider all facets. That said, I wouldn't resign him. Thank you for having a great year, hope you tear it up in the playoffs and get another nice payday, and time to move on to internal options next offseason. I really hate all this TV deal bullshlt.
  15. Man, what a terrible take on Ryan. I could make all sorts of arguments for him, but I'll just say this: I would trust him to start a playoff game for us. When he went down it hurt bad. We'll have to piece together our #3,4 starts in the playoffs now. Don't tear down a great pitcher to make your speculative arguments.
  16. I am aa well. 'Constant Comment" is a great orange infused tea that I love.
  17. The first HEEL smart phone. Look it up.
  18. Barbara was seriously sexy. Made me wish I was born a generation before.
