  1. Interesting thread. I played little league with a guy who could pitch really, REALLY well. He went to a D2 school and they threw his arm off. He bought in, team first, etc. Could he have been more? His dad was a minor league reliever, he had the genes and coaching from an early age. Just a minor blip in the baseball world, but since it's close to me I wonder what might have been for him.
  2. Competition suspect, but 6 of 7 could potentially save the season. Couple that with the next two against a depleted Guards bullpen, and this feels worlds different than 10 days ago. Get the taste of blood in your mouth and go savage them. No, that doesn't feel right for Rocco teams. They are more...urbane? But they can still win a bunch of.games.
  3. I went to high-school with a girl named Jenelle Cote, same pronunciation. Would she be welcome? Also, how does one get a ride on John's private jet?
  4. Ron Davis FTW! Or Marty Cordova from his SECOND year.
  5. I'll just say that I would love a new hacky sack circle group. It's been like 20 years. Enough is enouth, hackers gotta hack.
  6. Coincidently, my plantar fasciitis is caused by all my extra fat. It's all coming together.
  7. I saw it was in Just for Fun section and I STILL did a short double take. Also, I actually have plantar fasciitis in real life. Where can I pick up some of those crystals, and what flavor of LaCroix do they recommend?
  8. I'll limit my comments to Varland only. My impression is that when you have great velocity, you can reduce to "very good" velocity and likely add not insignificant movement. I know this is an oversimplification, but also a good generalization. I believe Varland can be a lights-out reliever. He gains speed with short (1 inning) bursts, and can leverage/trade some of that for better action. IF this is successful, his middling secondary offerings can play. And as he develops, those same secondary offerings could become plus. I see the path.
  9. I see three options. I'm dying. I'm literally on my last months of life and the make-a-wish folks are bringing me to a game. 3 months from now? IT'S A MIRACLE! Mid-life crisis. I'm fricken 46!?! My life is 2/3 over. I'm either hitting on the hot intern, buying a sports car, or going to THIS game. Who is going to stop me? I'm still in my 20s. Just don't care. I do what I want. Gonna fire me? Unlikely. This is all fanciful for me, since I consume my sports exclusively via radio, Best of luck to you all.
  10. I really want Julien to make this team, even if it's primarily DH, PH. If he's up with the MLB club playing in a more limited capacity they can pound MLB defensive drills into him every day. I think his bat will play well with the adjustments he's made. That being said, I find myself really liking Gaspar. He brings a lot of good things to the table. Good problem to have I suppose.
  11. All fair points. I wasn't intending to start a PED conversation, only responding to the previous poster's assertion that Bonds was consistently better than Ohtani. The only point I was trying to make was that when you have a legit 2 way superstar player like Ohtani (or Ruth) it just isn't possible to compare them to superstar 1 way players. My 'subjective" comment was intending to illustrate that point, as was the apples/oranges comment. Clearly I tapped it out too quickly and could have been more succinct in my wording. 🙃
  12. "Better" is a completely subjective word. Barry Bonds was truly great, aided significantly by illegal drugs. I'm sure WAR or other stats like Bonds better many years. I don't care. Ohtoni taking up ONE roster spot and being one of.the best pitchers AND hitters in the sport is on a completely different level. It's apples and oranges and it's not close.
  13. Good points made above. Blylevin and Kaat are certainly deserving to have been retired. Radke was an amazing pitcher and if we were to do so should be next pitcher # retired. Santana is a close second. Viola should also be considered. All are deserving in my mind, just comes down to thresholds. Now, for an absolute no-brainer....hang KG's jersey in the rafters within 30 seconds of that sale becoming final.
  14. Great point. I think weight training is just one factor, but an important one. What I feel it boils down to is that when you are a modern, legit world class athlete you are stressing the human body far above normal tolerances. Whether that's too much muscle, too much speed or endurance, or whatever, it's like revving an engine in the red for 15 minutes straight until some part of that engine fails. Or, for a somewhat nerdier analogy, the modern world class athlete is like the U.S.S Defiant: Overpowered and overgunned, literally tearing itself apart.
  15. Isn't this the reason we bring in 13 guys for an 8 man pen? The depth is there. High end is still intact. Keep my 2025 BP crush LOUIS Varland in short relief and I'll be happy. This BP is going to rock.
  16. Fun article, fun to think about. Kinda tired of the overreaction to SSS spring stats. I want to be and am optimistic about my baseball team. But even I have to admit I missed the game cutting firewood with my son and saw 4 ER through 3 IP and immediately thought "that sucks." I appreciate the Bird's eye view 😃
  17. Thanks a lot, now I will have West End Girls in my head all Sunday 😁
  18. Gunderson's Hemmorhoid Cream Preusser likes this article.
  19. Isn't plasma on the list of banned PEDs? I always thought it was an anti-inflammatory diuretic.
  20. At the risk of taking this to mega, MEGA geek level, I humbly submit that the Yankees should be designated as Species 8472.
  21. We're talking about Austin Martin somehow becoming an elite outfielder, but Julien can't do what thousands of past young major leaguers have done and figure out how to adjust their hitting approach? He's not going to just forget how to crush fastballs. If he improves enough against offspeed stuff he'll force pitchers to throw more of them. Easier said than done, but simple path.
  22. "The American League Central has long been among the lowest-spending divisions in baseball, and that hasn’t changed in recent years. For as much as Twins fans bemoan their limited spending, Minnesota leads the division in payroll. All five teams want to spend as little as possible while being competitive. This reality compels all of the front offices to prioritize where they want to spend strictly. The Twins have made their beliefs about the bullpen well known, while it looks like some of their competitors have a different mindset." Excellent point here that will likely be glossed over by many readers. I see this narrative that the Twins are cheap and are "severely constrained by payroll considerations" all over almost every article on Twins Daily. How does this track when we led the Central Division in payroll last year and are way ahead going into 2025? The truth (IMHO) is that right now 130 million dollars is plenty to field a championship caliber team as long as it is done intelligently. Our on-field performance last year just didn't cut it overall. We have built a darn good bullpen that only looks to be better this year. The fact that we did it for 12 million instead of 25 should be a crazy good feather in the FO's cap, not an opportunity to cry "CHEAP" yet again. If everyone plays to their potential this is a very good team.
  23. 2 or 3 works for me. I know he's a rental, but he would be the absolute best No. 4 in MLB. That rotation wins 95.
  24. The pipeline is real. Pitching coming in waves. We have more hitters (mostly LH) than we know what to do with. Keep it rolling. Especially X100 the pitching. Trades and opportunities will sort themselves out. Keep the forward progress moving.
