    I'm certainly glad that the Yankees didn't resign Soto; however, I agree with many of the above comments that far too many teams are unable to compete for the best players. Revenue sharing? Salary Cap? Combo Platter or something else? Baseball has a big problem. I think the Twins are the "canary in the coal mine" in terms of cutting salary. None of us like it and it showed up in reduced attendance. It will be interesting to follow attendance figures going forward especially if you compare the smaller market teams vs. the goliaths.

    While the marlins act like a small market, they are not located in one. Miami metro is a top 10 DMA.

    Losing Max opens up playing time for youngsters whose hitting ought to at least match what Max did last year.

    I think Paddack and Castro are the most likely to be traded. Trading Vasquez will be tricky in that is seems realistic that the Twins will have to cover some of his salary AND replace him.

    Buy low, sell high. I think Castro's value is at it's high point. Given the limited payroll flexibility for the Twins, I think they will move him. They ought to get a solid return for him especially if he is paired with the right prospect.

    i agree with your premise that injuries will help make these decisions. I do believe that Topa makes the opening day roster and hopefully the "Varland experience" at starting pitching is OVER and joins the pen.

    The Twins should tender Castro. He has value in the marketplace and I would trade him.

    I won't argue with that...and Paddack makes too much to be a relief pitcher which he appears to be more suited for.

    100% with you. I would like to add two things that I've seen in the comments: 1. Jax remains in the bullpen. And I'm fine if he is the closer. Crazy to move him from a position of extreme competence to something else. Peter principle? 2. Varland is a relief pitcher. I don't care if the Twins don't have enough depth at starter; that is a different problem. Varland has proven that he doesn't get it done the second time (much less 3 times) through the batting order.

    I am a bit surprised that Moran wasn't added; however, the Twins certainly know how he is progressing. Not protecting him seems like he may not have made appropriate progress.

    I advocate that the Twins sign and trade Castro. I've said this before, I think his poor second half was a result of playing too often. Also, despite loving his flexibility; Castro would be well served to focus on 2 or 3 positions vs. 5/6 from last year. He ought to improve his fielding if able to focus more. Someone previously said this, Castro as the team MVP is more an indictment on the 24 Twins than Castro's actual value. I really like the guy, but if the Twins could get a viable relief pitcher and free themselves of his salary, they will be better served IF they put the saved dollars to good use. They would have to free up additional $'s with the most likely candidate; Paddock.

    Julien has to prove he can hit and field at the MLB level. The current answer is: C for none of the above.

    I agree that Jeffers brings more in a trade. I am saying that if the goal is to make salary room...or cuts, then moving Vasquez is the play.

    I don't mind emulating Atlanta, but let's not refer to them as mid market team. They are the 6th largest metro in the US

    I wish I knew! Royce Lewis sure seems like a player. Julien? Unless Julien turns it around, or someone comes on strong in Spring training, I think Castro ought to play 2nd base more regularly.

    Correct me if I'm wrong, but minor league contracts are not part of the equation. Additionally, I am not sure the Farmer decision is related, although I acknowledge that it's part of the overall infield equation. Polanco's poor season was entirely predictable and I expect his performance to deteriorate even further in 2025.

    I agree. While I enjoyed Polanco's run with the Twins, all indicators pointed towards his performance falling off significantly. And it did. At the least, this was addition by subtraction and hopefully the Twins get something out of Topa this season. And no way should the Twins try to bring him back unless he takes a minor league contract.

    I am not at all sure I've seen anything from Buxton that demonstrates he is NOT a team player. I do agree that Lewis would be better served with more playing and less talking. That said, it was dumb trying Lewis at 2nd near the end of the season.

    To me, this is the perfect summary around Kirilloff. To keep, or not, is based on the other roster moves that the Twins make & how they feel about him from last season referencing his failure to disclose his injury. I'd probably keep him and would be very willing to include in a trade.

    For me, the best "bet", is the Twins Sign and trade Castro. I also feel like they will try to move Vasquez. I'd prefer the Twins keep Castro as our primary swiss army knife and have no problem if they can move Vasquez even though that likely weakens our defensive catching.

    I'm not against plug and play guys. My take is the Twins rely far too often on mixing and matching.
