  1. I agree. While I enjoyed Polanco's run with the Twins, all indicators pointed towards his performance falling off significantly. And it did. At the least, this was addition by subtraction and hopefully the Twins get something out of Topa this season. And no way should the Twins try to bring him back unless he takes a minor league contract.
  2. I am not at all sure I've seen anything from Buxton that demonstrates he is NOT a team player. I do agree that Lewis would be better served with more playing and less talking. That said, it was dumb trying Lewis at 2nd near the end of the season.
  3. To me, this is the perfect summary around Kirilloff. To keep, or not, is based on the other roster moves that the Twins make & how they feel about him from last season referencing his failure to disclose his injury. I'd probably keep him and would be very willing to include in a trade.
  4. For me, the best "bet", is the Twins Sign and trade Castro. I also feel like they will try to move Vasquez. I'd prefer the Twins keep Castro as our primary swiss army knife and have no problem if they can move Vasquez even though that likely weakens our defensive catching.
  5. I'm not against plug and play guys. My take is the Twins rely far too often on mixing and matching.
  6. For me, the only untradables are Lopez, Ober & Ryan. Everyone else...if the return on the trade makes the team better, do it. That said, I think Miranda is our likely first baseman next season.
  7. I think Martin is marginal for mlb. I am also tired of the Twins putting players in positions that they have no experience playing. It's a rare player who is plug and play at multiple positions. While the idea looks great on paper, the reality is mediocre fielding (sometimes worse) and confused players whose hitting might be harmed by the lack of stability. The Twins have true center fielders in the minors. Bring one of them up to support Buxton.
  8. I agree with most of what you say. I'm less sold on Julien, but certainly hope that you are correct. I especially like the idea of involving Lewis in his go forward position. What happened last year at 3rd and are you confident you will fix that? 2nd, if planned? Same for 1b.
  9. I think IF the Twins found a taker for Vasquez and the majority of his salary, they should probably go that route. I do agree that his replacement will most likely be a step back; but what is the front office to do, if this is their financial reality?
  10. I am a big fan of Castro. That said, I'm going to go another way. I think the Twins place too much value on position flexibility and not enough on position excellence. This is not the fault of Castro, however, he should play less positions and play them better; which I feel almost certain would be the case if he were allowed to focus. He may well be our 2nd baseman next year and if that happens, I believe he will flourish.
  11. I won't criticize you. I simply disagree. There has been ample evidence that his pitching doesn't get enough outs in the majors. He will do a nice job this season in Rochester.
  12. I like Martin, but he is a utility player, at best. And Castro needs to focus on 2, maybe 3 positions at most for next year to improve his defensive consistency. I think Keirsey and Rodgriguez are the best bets to complete the outfield as 4th and/or 5th outfield options. Larnach in left and Wallner in right seem like solid choices.
  13. I think a sign and trade for Castro makes good sense. I do feel his production will go up if he plays a bit less and focuses on fewer positions. I think Baldelli abused him this past season.
  14. So the Pohlad's aren't welcome, right?
  15. I'll pass on the positives as well. I like to think that the intense criticism they faced the past 11 months helped push them to this decision. Please complete the business of selling and go away.
  16. Duran and Topa are no brainers. I think the Twins have to offer arbitration to Castro and possibly trade him. I think the key to Castro is giving the guy some days off. Baldelli wore him out. I would also reduce the number of positions he plays so he can focus a bit on the fundamentals. It's one thing to value utility players; it's another thing running them into the ground.
  17. I feel like the original thought was somewhat Santana or Kirilloff. Youth needs to be served with this team especially in light of the financial direction our billionaire owners have taken. So, No Santana next year. I am not sure about Kirilloff simply because we don't have enough information regarding his condition subsequent to the season, what kind of person he is, in terms of work ethic, etc. My inclination is to try and trade him and failing that, then non-tender. I think, when in doubt, go with the youngsters. Miranda at first and the farm system.
  18. Except for losing the fan base, which translates to poor attendance and possibly losing the younger players, I quite agree. We can't fire ownership, but firing Baldelli would give fans some hope. And I personally don't think his in game decision making is cutting it.
  19. I don't know if it's the GM's job, but I'd like someone to take away Baldelli's spreadsheets! Actually, I'd rather take away Baldelli altogether, but that isn't on the table...
  20. Royce Lewis situation is especially concerning. He really appeared to lose interest.
  21. 100%; I feel completely empty about the Twins going forward. Sadly, the fans can't fire ownership. And ownership won't commit to winning AND ownership won't clean house (at least Baldelli and his staff) to give an appearance of caring. The fan base has had it with the spread sheet decision making on top of the horrendous financial direction ownership has taken. I would not be surprised to see attendance sink to 1.5 Million next year. The Twins are becoming the Oakland A's only with a lovely stadium partially funded by, wait for it, the FANS.
  22. So true. We can't fire the owners and the owners won't sell. Pohlad indicated he had to make tough "business" decisions. ok, do the Pohlads recognize what keeping Baldelli will do to their bottom line when attendance bottoms out next year?
