  1. It wouldn't surprise me either. The Twins don't look good this spring. They have the worst record in baseball. Some say it doesn't matter; and maybe they're right. I just wish that people would stop talking about who we can count on in "the playoffs." Talk about counting your chickens. I mean really!
  2. Here are the top and bottom three teams in the Spring training final standings last year: Grapefruit league, Top 3 St. Louis, 17 and 7 Atlanta, 18 and 10 Houston, 14 and 10 Grapefruit League, Bottom 3 Mets, 10 and 14 Pittsburgh, 9 and 18 Miami, 7 and 16 Cactus League, Top 2 LA, Angels 18 and 11 KC, 19 and 13 Cubs, 17 and 12 Cactus League, Bottom 3 Cleveland, 12 and 16 Colorado, 13 and 19 Oakland, 11 and 17 These are the facts. Make of them what you will.
  3. The topic is still relevant. We're in the middle of Spring training, our starting pitching is as thin as could be as we prepare for the long season. You obviously hate Bauer and would like to bury him in the rabbit hole and be done with it. But that's your personal animosity speaking. The fact is, Bauer is available at a bargain price and he's a very good pitcher. He'd easily slide into the number one or two slot on our team. I don't think we should sacrifice Trevor to the Gods of PR. I think he's paid his fine both financially and personally, and I think he should be given a second chance. And I think he'd be a great fit for the Twins.
  4. I wouldn't be surprised if Mr. Bauer gets a panic phone call from the Yankees' head office this week. Maybe we should try and beat 'em to the punch? We could spin it like that he seems contrite, and we're extending him a chance to redeem himself, and blah, blah, blah. I'd just hate to see the Yankees scoop him up for minimum (MLB) wage, while we wait for Disco's elbow to feel better.
  5. You too? I'm still pining away for mine. Same scenario--off to college; goodbye high school honey; and I've been heart broken, going on 46 years now. It's nice to know I'm not the only pathetic soul out there. But we still got baseball!
  6. Here's another one: Pitching for the Twins in the 8th inning against the Red Sox today was none other than that up and coming rookie phenom, Scott Blewett!
  7. Damn, I wish I read this earlier. I just spent a lot of money on a new hair style. (But if I do say so myself, I do look pretty good.)
  8. I totally agree with you on this. Not only was it a horrible trade statistically but it destroyed the amazing club house chemistry and the whole camaraderie between the players and the fans and the whole community. I remember clearly the amazing celebration that erupted when we finally won not only a world series but a real championship in any sport. It brought everyone together. And then, just a month later, they go and trade one of the heroes, one of our boys. They broke up the family, and for what? Tommy Herr. He was terrible both on the field and off the field. A dour personality, the exact opposite of our Bruno. It was a real shortsighted blockheaded trade.
  9. What do you expect for a 5th starter? I think Bundy, in the last year we had him, was a perfectly adequate 5th starter. Now you could argue that we could have got a 4th starter for Polanco, but we would never have received the package of a top 100 prospect, a decent reliever, and a 6 million dollar throw-in. I think this deal will turn out well for us.
  10. What about "What's His Name?" Every time he's mentioned, the whole thread tangles up. But he's sure worth mentioning, and, imo, worth considering. And I think he's still available. I don't think he has re-upped with his Japanese team.
  11. I didn't know that Dusty Baker was Black. I just thought he was a great manager and a darn good player in his day. Silly me!
  12. Ty Cobb, Josh Donaldson, Bauer, Barry Bonds, Ricky Henderson, ad infinitum; all these guys with big egos supported by big numbers can carry teams into the world series. This is major league baseball, not just some back office.
  13. I'd love it if the Twins signed Bauer. I think club house "chemistry" is an overblown concern. If the guy is pitching well, winning games, you can throw chemistry out the window.
  14. Is that really the guy's name? We would have had a great time with that one if he came here. Just change the "oo" to an "e" and we armchair commentators would have had a field day.
  15. Great write-up! (But if I were you, I'd drop one "f" in every mention of the "Grifith" name, just as a precaution. It could offer protection from revisionist censors.)
  16. Don't forget that he got hit in the face with a fastball early last season. It did quite a bit of damage both physically and mentally. He was eventually able to shake it off, but it did bring his numbers down. The guy's a tough competitor and he brings that elusive "grit" to the team. Of course, it's hard, if not impossible, to measure grit; there are no metrics for it. But if we lose Farmer, I think we'd lose a lot more than statistics can suggest.
  17. I think they will regret it. They need a backup center fielder. I think they should have protected him. They added 4 players to the 40 man roster. I think they could have and should have added a 5th in Keirsey.
