  1. While Puerto Rico uses the USD. and are citizens of the USA, how they are treated by the ruling party would indicate that they are worse off than a third world country.
  2. Of course Dozier would be thankful for Ryan. He was a failure as a shortstop but Ryan stuck with him and had him moved to 2b. It would take a real horse's behind not to be appreciative of someone's faith in your development.
  3. Where will Dozier go? I do not know. Does a team extending their own player set the precedent for the Twin's in extending Dozier? That ship sailed. Blacmon's signing means nothing for Dozier. The situation is different.
  4. I would not doubt that Dozier wants 4-5 years. Many players did last winter. Not many got that. Good for him if he gets it. He could get a Martinez deal, or a Frazier deal. Only time will tell. Heck of a risky bet, a year's worth of payroll for the Rays. Much more risky than one year of free agency.
  5. Gibson will have a career year in hopes that some GM will ignore most of the others. Morrison will get starts in the outfield, hopefully not on the same days as Grossman. The raindrops falling will be Buxton's as he tries to cover most of the territory in the outfield. The Twins will trade for another starter if they are in contention in July. Besides Hughes some other pitcher will get injured and need replacing. One of the minor league pitcher not named Adalberto will come up for the fifth starter job. Dozier won't choke in a contract push. Joe Mauer plays like he is in the playoffs. One good series and 2 dismal ones
  6. Not really. 2014 Sandoval, Hanly Ramirez, Russel Martin, Yasmany Tomas, V-Mart, Nelson Cruz, Headley and Markasis all signed contracts for four years or longer at 10 million a year or more. What percentage of those contracts really worked out? Think that maybe enough GMs got calls to take on bad contracts they might grow a little cautious? 2015 Heyward, Davis, Upton, Alex Gordon and Zobriest, 4+ years. Quite a few less position players getting the years and dollars. Not really up to the dollars signed for either. Is this year the aberrant one or evidence of learning? Dozier has had the bat, but not the fielding chops. He should get good to great AAV, I would doubt the years I have no idea why a quote is posting twice.
  7. How many position players got more than a 3 year deal last winter? Not many, and fewer every year. How lucky would Dozier be to find an organization that wins, needs a 2b, and freely spends?
  8. Buxton, Sano, Kepler, Polanco, Rosario make it so the position players are stable. You can add Adrianza, Grossman and Granite if you like. Wade and Rooker if you are optimistic. Mid to back of rotation starters always seem to be available as well as a bullpen. That being said Berrios isn't going anywhere. Names that we know that might not be gone include Hildenberger, Moya, Odorizzi, Rogers as well as the promise of Curtis, Gonsalves, Jorge, Mejia, Reed, Romero and some other pitcher I am blanking on. These are names that people should know.
  9. Doing pretty good if what there is to grouse about is the last position player
  10. Don't other teams have relievers with varied results later in their careers? Good one year, bad anther. Pressly could fit that mold if he ever had another good year.
  11. Also when 3 teams play each other 19 times and each have the same low win percentage they should be near .500 when they play each other and thus worse against other teams.
  12. Vegas odds are set in a manner so as to extricate money from people. They are not rewarded for an accuracy other than the accuracy of betting incorrectly
  13. Bert was in the early 50s as an overall pick as there were less teams then. Even then, 4 picks out of 50 years. That would leave 44 other quality players that you would trade for Lynn, and the other team wouldn't take
  14. Smoke and mirrors for 4-5 years? That is one good act or there are flaws in metrics
  15. Everybody thought the big free agents would get big contracts. Nobody is happier for that mentality than Chatwood, Minor, Garcia and Cashner. All signed for about what any of the "top" starters are going to get. When a 200 ip as a starter becomes a rarity and brittle becomes synonymous with starter, then there should also be a scarcity in the ranks of top dollar contracts. Clubs expected Cobb, Lynn, Arrietta and Darvish to hold out for long term high dollar contracts. 1-3 year deals looked better, even if overpriced
  16. If Lynn is a league average pitcher that would make Lackey a replacement level pitcher
  17. Non-Disqualified Revenue Sharing Payees: Diamondbacks, Braves, Orioles, Reds, Indians, Rockies, Astros, Royals, Marlins, Brewers, Twins, Athletics, Pirates, Padres, Mariners, Rays These 16 teams received revenue sharing and did not exceed the competitive balance tax. If one of these teams signs a qualified free agent, it forfeits its third-highest pick. These teams face the smallest draft pick penalty. https://www.baseball-reference.com/draft/?team_ID=MIN&draft_round=3&query_type=franch_round I don't see a pitcher of Berrios's caliber here except for everybody's favorite trade bait, Brian Duensing. Some great catchers on the list
  18. It will continue to be a subject of conversation until it is proven beyond a reasonable doubt that all starters on the rotation are better than what they could have signed.
  19. The Sano and Chapman situations are so different in so many ways they should not even be in the same paragraph. Spring sample sizes an judging season outcomes . Hector Santiago has given up only one run in eight innings. What on earth was the FO thinking about letting this talent go.
  20. Maybe practicing a few minutes of caring will lead to hours of caring.. In the bigger world I do not see that happening, but one can hope.
  21. one can be enlightened about pitching and also have bad results with your staff choices. An enlightened evaluator can like a pitcher and be right that the pitcher is good for any reason but why that person said the pitcher would be, There may be fine tuning needed of Odorizzi and his chronically high fastball. Sanchez had poor catchers in Detroit along with poor fielders in Detroit. It is hard to get GB out like he used to when the batter lays off the pitch, elevates and celebrates, or the fielder just does not move well enough to catch the ball.
  22. a third round draft pick, historically about a 1/10 shot, plus money for a number 2 starter versus multiple players with an upside for a mid priced 3 for a couple of years. I would get the better player that costs the least talent
  23. The money may not have been the issue. They may have been fine with offering more money. The opt out clause was the issue. I don't see why anyone should have an issue with not wanting to give an opt out clause. If the player is confident they can exceed the contract they should have the conviction in themselves to sign a short term deal.
  24. Last 6 year minor league player that has solely played in the minors to make an impact at the major league level?
  25. There was things circulating a while back that Darvish wanted Strasburg type money. When that was universally panned it was Cueto money. 6/130+option or buyout. The mistake made was saying Cueto's name. Cueto is a few months older than Darvish. That he had a great first year of the contract, horrid second year could be noticed by a GM or two. People wonder why there are less large contracts being handed out. George has been long dead, the pizza guy died, Omar the free spending GM has been long fired. The Dodgers went with rational after a few years of Malone. What free spending GM or owner is left?
