  1. Hendriks began doing long toss while in Oakland. The added strength led to more velocity and control. Changing to the four seamer from the sinkerball improved his results. There is no shame in letting him go, Oakland did it.
  2. When 4 unknown prospects can get you and ace pitcher with 3 years on a contract how can mere mortals know what is a valuable asset. I am sure that the people here would be more than happy to get that level of pitcher. 4 nondescript players may end up San Diego's most valuable asset for this year Who helps you win the most this year is who is most valuable for this year.
  3. I resolve to continue to be amused by people having the emotion of hatred for somebody because they play a game
  4. Would Preller have been in such a position as needing to trade for pitching had he not traded Luis Castillio and Max Freid. The San Diego model has had one short season playoff appearance under Preller. That is hardly a model for success
  5. Would that be pitching or modified batting practice?
  6. 2016 was the last time Polanco played something other than SS. Anybody remember moving a player to right field? Polanco is not a good SS. I have been told one issue is his arm strength or accuracy. The only place then would be 2b, not utility. I do not see anything that says why he would be a good utility player. Perhaps it is another try someone in RF move. I would think this FO wouldn't do it with no knowledge of Polanco's capabilities at other positions.
  7. Taylor is set to make 7.8 million. I would hardly call that cheap considering at this time he would be the fourth highest paid Twin.
  8. The long term math works out in favor of the owners only when they sell. In the pandemic the math still sucks. According to Forbes the Twins had gate receipts of 79 million. That is close to what the 30 percent of revenue. Further down you see revenue per fan is $48. At 2.3 million fans for attendance that comes out to 110 million in revenue Forbes lists operating income. A full season without fans in 2019, using Forbes numbers, would result in a 67 million loss. I don't think that many people could withstand losing real cash
  9. One could claim Arozarena was the target and Jose Martinez was the throw in. Martinez was later flipped for a stiff of a prospect and the PLTBNL Cash Arozorena was a preseason fangraphs top 50 prospect. That is not a come from nowhere prospect status. That would make him comparable to the Twins big outfield prospects.
  10. It was a shame that they moved on from Anderson. Other players bounced around before becoming good again. The takeaway could just as well be success elsewhere does not mean they would have success here
  11. Now is not the right time to doubt Buxton. That is the title. There is plenty of room to doubt Buxton as there has been little evidence to say there will be a full season out of him. There is no wrong time at this point to doubt him.
  12. In the end Ryan had 4 teams makes the playoffs. Better yet for the owner, he made the team money. That is how it works for Pohlad
  13. 28 players chosen after mills in the first round, including supplemental players were busts 39 players after Garbe 24 players after Johnson Out of over 100 players chosen you only find a few good players. The Twins did not. Nor did a lot of other teams Redman was the best player on a very bad team. Somebody had to be the all star, Walker at best was serviceable Drafting is a very inexact science. Couldas wouldas are fun but are generally the most optimal situation from a random happening. Radcliff was the scouting director, not Ryan. Ryan has stated that he let the scouting director run the draft. He may have set parameters of signability and maybe position but I doubt he was making the call
  14. Unless there is an unexpected and drastic fall by a pitcher similarly rated to Murphy the Twins will draft position players the first 2 round, pitchers the next 2. Total crapshoot if they can convince players who are not seniors to sign for 20K
  15. Without the accomplishments of the 2000 Twins, most of the top 5 teams wouldn't have happened
  16. The reason baseball would expand of course is money. 2 billion per franchise divided 30 ways offsets the 700 million of a national television contract being shared by 2 more teams. Placement of the franchises would likely be to maximize local television revenue. The best uneducated guess of where would be a Canadian team and either a Mexican team or Charlotte. Then comes the real debate, how do you realign baseball? 8 4 team divisions? Complete do over of leagues and teams to promote rivalries? Is Manfred up to that task?
  17. the last expansion draft this was the rule for prospects All Players in an organization are eligible to be drafted, except those with no prior major league experience who have less than three years service if signed at age 19 or older or have less than four years of service if signed at age 18 or younger. \After this off season Kiriloff, Lewis, Larnach and Balazovic would all have to be protected or risk losing. Duran could also be lost If it is like the last draft the team protects 3 players after the first and second rounds. Upside may be a better thing to protect than average players. There is no need to initially protect Maeda initially under those rules. It might be doubtful if you would need to protect Pineda as they would only be getting one year of service or hoping like crazy he could be trade bait.
  18. These are the times that what is fake and what is real becomes a legitimate question. Sometimes it all boils down to what you want to believe. If someone is watching entertainment programming on television and are entertained by it, good for them. Nobody should be assailed for watching it.
  19. Jake Cave or Tyler Duffrey. It is usually the under the radar people who used to win.
  20. I would rather have a system that turns out effective pitchers rather than economical. The Coles, Verlanders, Strassburgs or even the Sale type pitchers shouldn't be available for the team to draft. The team needs to be able to turn lumps of coal into diamonds. 4-5 years should be perfectly acceptable to develop if needed. The end product is far mar important than the speed developed
  21. Landon Leach was injured last year. He is 20 years old. That is way too early to consider him a bust. Players drafted during the McPhail and Ryan years really do not belong in a conversation about the current front office. It would be more than likely the old house of people who made judgement calls on players has been swept out. Deron Johnson is around likely because it might be bad form to fire a first guy. He was promoted to senior adviser, effectively swept out.
  22. In regards to Thorpe not being happy and venting on twitter. However poorly worded his statements may have been there is nothing wrong with Thorpe being upset with being demoted. I am happy with him not liking to be demoted. airing out on Twitter seems to be the young person thing to do. that seems to be the new way of the world On Thorpe being behind other prospects. He has pitched in the majors, the others have not sniffed AA. 10 years from now they might be better major league pitcher, you need to worry about this year. I can't remember the last time the Twins used less than 8 starters through the year. There has to be a plan b,c,d, and e On Thorpe as trade bait. If the deal is good the team should do it. The deal should be for a starter better than a middle of the order starter.
  23. The rule states end of inning or 3 batters. If the pitcher goes past the end of the inning then the pitcher needs to face 3 batters in total. The exception to this rule is going to be if the second batter is an Astro and you hit them. They are not going to let you hit 2
  24. Great upside with Walker, but I would think at this point he is holding out hopes for a mlb contract, Hold out hope for a MLB contract is not a bad thing to do
  25. Odo got 17.9 To replace him if he doesn't resign is going to cost at least that. It is likely to cost more. The class at this point looks thin. An underachiever could rise up this year. Two years ago who would have thought that Odo would be a 17.9 million pitcher
