  1. 1998-2007, a 10 year window, the best Twins 13 drafted after the third round provided over 105 WAR. Yup the Twins can draft. What is the problem then. Signing. In a cap free time about 50 of that WAR actually signed with the Twins. The rest did not. Had they actually signed the players they would have had some better fringe players I am not going to see if it is similar to other teams in random 10 years. . I would guess that it likely is. All you need to do is look at the 2000 Angels draft. 3 players 58 bWAR
  2. But Bird was adding up WAR and calling winners. Cardinals with 88 WAR out of 12 players. What was a winner was also IMO a very low threshold. 12 out of 370 players in drafting means greatness.
  3. Meyer had a trio of 4 yesterday, 4 IP, 4BB, 4ER
  4. Hicks had value in trade for his ceiling and still being young enough to reach it. Hot stretches to confirm the ceiling might be obtainable. Rosario performed at a level in the major leagues in 2015 far above a level his AA performance or his short AAA career would project. In an analytic age after the 2015 season the Twins would be the likely the only team to overvalue Rosario. A .310 woba is not anything to lure other teams for a hitter in CF.
  5. I can not remember the times you were correct before.
  6. Prove that Rosario would have brought more back in trade. Rosario was only on one ranking service as a top 100 prospect. So what lightly regarded outfield prospect with one season of mlb ball that could be considered his ceiling brought back a young player of note in the analytic era? Maybe he would have is not a reality but baseless conjecture.
  7. Cards, 2001, no players amounting to much. 2002, the same , 2003 Brendan Ryan, 14.9 war. the other 6 players 4.4. Kennedy and Scherzer do not count as they did not sign. 2005 3 player, negative net war of 1.4. 2005 Jamie Garcia. 10.2 war 6-8 years of hoping he would repeat the good 2. 2006 Allen Craig 5 Luke Gregerson 6 war. 2007 a bunch of nothing, 2008 Siegrist, 4.7 2009 Matt Carpenter 18.8, Rosenthal, 5.7, mostly 2 good years and a lot of hoping he will match them, Mat Adams 4.3. 2010 and 2011, nobody of note. Matt Carpenter, a few relievers. No 12 players of consequence. A lot of players who had one or two good years and a lot of time hanging on trying to match it Sorry, your premise the Cards are doing something better is correct. They find a lot of players almost good enough to make it, Late round diamonds, no better than anyone else.
  8. Dozier was drafted in the 9th round, pick number 252 of the draft
  9. Cordy is a power pitcher with control issues. Rarely starts, mostly relieves. As a 40th round pick he is high on potential, as he is making it through 2 seasons of ball and continued promotions. Does he need to be reminded at least he is not dead after a bad outing? I would hope that sports are not that all consuming. Perhaps society in their games are going back to win or literally die.
  10. A prospect is no longer a prospect when there is enough proof of the Peter Principal and their playing baseball thusly peters out. The exception is AAAA players that provide the filler in the upper levels because too many prospects in your system petered out and there is a desire to field a winning team in the upper minors.
  11. The belief by management that their coaches and training systems can make Haley a better and more consistent pitcher. The belief they really do not want their power pitching prospects to be long relievers.
  12. I heard from an inside source that he does not have good control of his off speed pitches
  13. A pitcher is an Ace number 2, or number 3 is as pointless of debate as there is. Recent teams with great starters won what? Cody's list of Aces has how many rings between them for all of their seasons? Detroit, Tampa, the Mets, the Nationals have won how many with their Aces and Twos? Felix Hernandez has pitched how many times in the playoffs? Aces give you wonderful regular seasons. When the playoffs hit something happens. Players rising to the occasion. Many here on this site grouse about the Twins not winning but one series when they had their run under Gardenhire. Players that can rise to the occasion. Morris did in 91. Would not have had the chance without Puckett rising to the occasion. A Twin's batter carrying the team during the playoffs during Gardenhire's tenure? Not that I can recall So, it really did not matter that Santana was an Ace, Radke a two. Did it matter Volquez,, Ventura, Guthrie or Duffy in 2015 would not be anyone's idea of an Ace, or a two. Maybe not even a three. Cueto an Ace? A two?. His half regular season play in KC made him a four, or five? ALDS his play was at a high level. Toronto rocked him. Ace, not Ace, Ace for the WS? Labels do not really matter.
  14. Gonsalves is a shoulder injury that the FO said was not as bad as last fall's injury. He pitched about 150 innings last year. If the current FO thinks the previous FO had pitched him too many innings last year they could be holding him back. there is still plenty of time to get him in enough work this year. Tyler Jay's injury is bicep tenderness. Not much else is published, so it is difficult to get a guess on anything.
  15. There are far too many stories out there about him being a 6-6 6-7 player in high school. Since many here seem to request footnotes https://www.si.com/vault/1996/04/29/212352/trials-of-david-san-antonio-spurs-center-and-born-again-christian-david-robinson-is-trying-to-lead-his-team-to-an-nba-title-and-remain-pure-in-a-world-beset-by-the-seven-deadly-sins Robinson was not all state as a basketball player in high school. He was not that good. There was no reason to "cook" books. So perhaps if you wish to accuse someone of misdeeds you can prove he was too tall for the academy when he entered and was so good they would cheat. If he was so good as a freshman worth cheating over, why did he average 13 minutes per game? You cared enough to comment. I really doubt Thrylos measured him, either. Yet you take his word for it.
  16. Robinson entered the academy at 6-7 and later grew taller. 6-8 in the height maximum. So what books were cooked?
  17. Nor is he Tonkin as a pitching prospect, but you did not say boo about that when Thrylos brought it up and I responded to it. If Tonkin was a top ten pitching prospect when he was drafted that was one heck of a slide in the draft. So just find it in your heart to forgive my ignorance in making fun of Thrylos's statement
  18. Grossman, by woba, is a fine hitter. Like the start of the season this year by an ex Twin phenom, if you are used properly, you can be a productive player.
  19. . No, Florimomon is a Dominican. The point was Greene's floor not ceiling. If he busts as a pitcher his comp could be Tonkin, If he busts as a pitcher and then tries SS, his comp as a busted shortstop could be Florimon.. If you bothered to read Thtylos's comment you might understand mine
  20. Or becomes a shortstop like Pedro Florimon
  21. http://www.twinkietown.com/2016/8/10/12414438/michael-tonkin-and-the-trade-off the myth repeated so often it becomes fact
  22. Nothing much funnier than threads where the complaint is about the mediocrity of pitching (with a side argument on definitions) and another thread where the complaint is of giving up a starting pitcher with a ceiling of mediocrity where the topic was a small sample size hot start by a former Twins position player..
  23. The Twins destroyed his confidence last year by using him inappropriately as the long reliever when they should have been have force feeding him high leverage situations to have him learn. If he gets released and does well for someone else for a couple innings it will be Fien all over again. Explant tongue
  24. ESPN bet on football and the nba. They lost. They are losing subscribers. Less revenue and increased expense means someone else gets cut and someone else gets to do a lot more work
  25. When have IFA signings ever been logical? If any team is strong in their beliefs that Luis Robert will be very good they will risk a year of ifa
