  1. What statistic people do not know. From fall 2014 on a prospect ranking page was their list of valuable players who were no longer prospect status but not yet established... Big League Growth Assets 1. Oswaldo Arcia, RF, Age 23 2. Eduardo Escobar, SS, Age 25 3. Josmil Pinto, C/DH, Age 25 4. Kennys Vargas, 1B/DH, Age 24 5. Danny Santana, UT, Age 23 6. Aaron Hicks, CF, Age 24 The return for the three no longer on the roster has been one minor league catcher. Santana would likely pass through waivers unless there is one GM who thinks they can recreate Santana's season of beating out bunts and infield hits. Vargas might net you a reliever, but not a good one.
  2. Back to the pitching topic. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/are-relievers-benefiting-from-pitching-less/ Older article, but really the question should be what 2 pitchers.
  3. Palka would have to continue his current plate discipline to have a shot.
  4. I could have had a lot of respect if the reply would have been Buxton's September was an anomaly and he has not turned the corner in being a top OPS player.
  5. the season home opener for the Twins has been followed by a day off pretty much since Target Field opened. I think only a few people really care that there was a day off
  6. 2012 season opener home opener was followed by an off day, as was the 2010 season. There appears to be only one season when the home opener was not followed by a day off. It has also been a few years where there was enough season ticket holders to matter.
  7. The team scores 7 runs and people here complain. Wow. Statics would say you put your highest obp at the top of the order, which they did. Somewhere the brilliant forgets that in the game there are days you are a failure, days you are not. . The game of baseball is a game of trends that are not to be judged by one game.
  8. I have yet to see some proof that Park can hit major league pitching. A 30% strikeout rate in spring training. Like many other minor league power hitters, they can hit minor league pitching. So, who have his HR come off this spring. Answer that question and you MIGHT have your answer why he was not brought back to the 40 man roster. This whole way of looking at things reminds me of the Adam Brett Walker threads. ABW would appear to have 0 AB this spring in the mlb camp
  9. A list of the prospects in AA and AAA that have not yet appeared in the majors. As about 8 of them are not on the 40 man roster something would have to be going horribly wrong or amazingly right for them to get on the 40 man. Injuries and severe underperformance are the wrongs, trades for lower level, high upside prospects are the amazingly right. .
  10. Just a reminder that spring training numbers, good and bad, really do not mean that much. Quintana has had some bad springs as have many others, put up decent numbers through the season. Quintana is the more extreme end of things. Did somewhere I say Haley and Hughes will have great seasons? No words said anything about Hughes. The great numbers for Park, how many games was he facing the second tier pitching?
  11. Is about 90 players or so league wide most players?
  12. But the downward plane. The exit velocity and launch angle obtained. That has to count for something.
  13. http://www.startribune.com/twins-notes-molitor-talks-shift-strategy/304515631/ http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/sunday-notes-molitor-on-shifts-chen-down-the-middle-rusty-kuntz-more/ In January, Molitor told MLB.com’s Rhett Bollinger, “The game has changed so much; we’re seeing more overshifts and people not afraid to give up space based on tendencies, so it’s something I’m excited about learning about and applying to the way we play defense.”
  14. It is not Danny Santana per se, it is the lack of anyone performing head and shoulders above him. Unscientifically, Park seemed to be having great at bats against the second tier pitching. . I wish you were running the White Sox last spring because one of their starters had an ERA in the spring of a high 6 variety. You might have thought the pitcher was washed up and got rid of him for nothing. Quintana. Samardjiza (sic) has poor spring numbers as do many other starters. Many phenoms have great numbers in spring (Serafini comes to mind) to fade away later. You really do not have much to base your rant on. If Grossman fails, then Park will get his chance. If a AAA outfielder shows some skill with a bat and a glove, Danny will be gone and you can break out the bubbly to celebrate. If Twins starters show the ability to go longer than a few innings consistently there will not be 2 long relievers in the bullpen.. Which future do care about? 2020 or next week? In the end it is unlikely that anyone who would be up in place of the players you dislike is part of the future plan.
  15. http://m.mlb.com/news/article/221529204/tigers-release-veteran-pitcher-mike-palfrey/ Fool me once shame on you.
  16. Spring phenoms fool people. Veterans doing badly is called experimenting
  17. When you see the makeup of the AAA and AA pitching staffs, you will have an idea of when you might see a pitcher. Tepesch or Wimmers are the early season disaster happened relievers. Berrios and the loser of the 5th starter battle will be Reed and Chargois by May to replace the dregs. Plenty in AA that need to move forward It shall be interesting to see if there are any philosophical changes (hint, more aggressive) in mid season advancement of prospects.
  18. Joe Mauer, motivational speaker Miguel Sano, outfield coach Danny Santana, survivalist Robbie Grossman magician Too many Twins pitchers fit for a gopher exterminator that I couldn't make up my mind Morneau becomes inspired to be a Neurologist What is a Slowey article without Nick Blackburn who becomes a firefighter because he always wanted to work with heat once in his life. Pavano opens a cabana in the Virgin Islands so he never has to walk in snow again
  19. Hartford to New Britain I do believe is about 12 miles. Not a gap in the housing either. About the distance from the east side of downtown Saint Paul to Target field. I doubt if they had to get a vote from the governing body of the league. Of course as long as the team is kept in the vicinity of the league and everybody can make more money, they are going to approve the transfer. A Fargo or Sioux Falls are not going to get a Midwest league franchise Too far away
  20. Other teams are doing it http://www.foxsports.com/mlb/story/pittsburgh-pirates-clint-hurdle-fatigue-monitor-training-staff-lineups-091615 http://m.mlb.com/video/topic/6479266/v1243450383/cards-introduce-player-health-monitoring-system pay http://journals.lww.com/nsca-scj/Abstract/2014/12000/Monitoring_and_Managing_Fatigue_in_Baseball.4.aspx
  21. Adam Jones said the same as Kinsler From the LA Times In San Diego, when the U.S. faced Puerto Rico, Venezuela and the Dominican Republic in pool play, Jones said much the same thing. “We are very, very emotional, very passionate,” he said. “We just exude it in a little different way. http://larrybrownsports.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/adam-jones.jpg
  22. Kirbydome on a post on another thread commented on failed starters as relievers. I am aware of Ryan's past.
  23. I guess Ryan Pressly will be the next Twin failed starter turned dominant reliever
  24. You would have a valid point except the MLB hitters were getting to him first time through the rotation, not the 2/3 time through. Perkins improved his fb velocity being a reliever . I can't recall any starter who had a plus plus fastball and slider but had control problems really succeeding as a reliever. The struggling starter becomes a better pitcher as a reliever because they end up with an above average fb rather than a below average one.
  25. What would make him a failed starter would make him fail as a reliever. If he can't locate his pitches as a starter, he won't locate any better as a reliever. If the 100 mph fastball is hittable because he throws it over the plate, 102 mph will suffer the same fate. Meyer is a case where a failed starter would equal a failed reliever.
