  1. Yesterday the score was already 10-3 in Seattle's favor in the seventh. On the game the day before Molitor stated something about Belisle with 19 out of 26 games without allowing a run. I have yet to see anything logical posted on why when Belisle is bad, it gets really bad in a hurry. I really do not expect anyone here to have the answer.to the conundrum that is Belisle's pitching this year.
  2. The most amount of player has little correlation to WAR accumulated. It would be strange to praise a team for being able to draft well when the large number of players produce little results. Some here seem to think the number of players is significant. The important piece of the draft is to produce productive players. If over the last 17 years the Twins managed to draft a fifth starter, a long reliever, other bullpen arms and a utility player to go along with their one good player every other year they would be called great drafters of talent by the logic of those deriding the Twin's drafting. Now, the other extreme, if every draft the Twins plucked one player who produced 10 WAR or more, and not any other players that made the major leagues, they would not be good drafting by the number of players reaching the major leagues, but they could have one heck of a good team. I think the stat geeks need to find a better method to evaluate.
  3. Santana Santiago Hughes Gibson One of May, Mejia, Berrios, or Duffey Not an ideal 9 man group. Take one out to patch a hole in the bullpen May goes down you have Mejia, Hughes goes down, Berrios is more than ready. Santiago goes down and ? starts. The rotation needs to have a backup plan for every starter Management failed
  4. What did you think was going to be available? A pitcher with a bright future, 98 mph fastball, a wicked slider on the waiver wire that made the mistake of farting in the elevator ?
  5. Revere started games in CF, but I would not call him a starting centerfielder. The Twins netted more for him in trade than any other team would have. The Span trade was like plunking down a month's salary for this week's powerball. Ryan thought he had a play for a jackpot. Good for him. Hick took over a year away from the Twins to be good. A little PTSD? Wrong hitting coach. Ryan did not recognize that. Look how much better everyone but Dozier is doing away from Bruno. For a .500 ops hitter the Twins got a good return. Ooopisie.
  6. Covering something like Hicks covering territory in the outfield. Good one
  7. You forgot BJ Garbe, Kyle Skipworth, Matt Hobgood and Kaleb Cowart. Gatorade player of the year means mlb bust as many times as it means star
  8. To draft a top 15 talent with a pick in the mid to late 30 range a talent has to fall there. That player would likely need to be a high school player. That player would also have to believe that in a couple of years they would not be a top 5 talent and be earning a lot more money. The extra money might be useful in the later rounds when drafting a high school player to pay them mid round money. There is no certainty who will be there other than at the first pick.
  9. Scott Proctor was the last reliever to pitch over a hundred innings. That was over 10 years ago. Into the high 90s and some semblance of effectiveness were Betance, and Belisle when he was with the Rockies. Long man Swarzak got to 96 as well as several other pitcher who accumulated less than 1 war. High leveraged relievers pitching 100 innings went the way of the every fourth day starter
  10. In regards to the holes in Brian Dozier's game. Very few players do not have a hole in their game. If you do not have a hole you are called Mike Trout. Even then Trout got injured, so either there was kryptonite, or even he is not superman
  11. What is a 1-5 star catch is really immaterial. Speed of the outfielder to get to the ball plays a role in how good the outfielder is for a factor. When you factor in speed of the outfielder and speed of the ball to go with the hang time and reaction time it becomes yes or no on what is the outfielder's territory and the catches they should make. Catches on/over the fence are athletic plays. Not so much speed distance as it is timing. That is not measured. The old line about it is the best tool the fans have does ring true, but really will not tell you who the better outfielder is. It does not measure arm and holding runners. It does not measure getting to a ball fast enough to prevent the runner(s) taking the extra base Sortable? can't find grossman's numbers Inside edge on fangraphs has been around a few years
  12. At game time Duffey was on pace to pitch 100 innings for the season. You can not call that rested unless he throws with the intensity of the batting practice pitcher. Rodgers was on pace for 90 appearances and has a career l/r split. getting into overuse territory
  13. Molitor did exactly the right thing. He exposed the relievers for what they are. If the front office is serious about winning, throw the trash out there against the best hitters. Identify that they are what they are so you can get the replacements. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ugtksp5J6lg Couldn't resist a plug for old favorites to remind you all they still exist Seriously if the bullpen was being mostly effective against the lower tier teams it is not going to help Molitor out against the good teams if they are not going to be effective. I would think after a half century Molitor has a clue on if what a pitcher regularly throws will be effective or not. Convince the brass others are needed for the long run because otherwise he is not going to win Overuse. At this point in the season over 24 innings or 24 appearances are overuse. Duffey is around that, Kinzler and Rodgers are close. Historically Molitor does not overuse bullpen arms. (long relievers about 100-120 innings, 80 on everyone else with about 75 appearances being an upper limit for relievers)
  14. Maybe the plan was to have the AA pitchers see the same teams a couple of times to see if they get the same people out. Then it would appear they have a plan and sticking to it
  15. If Meyer pitched like that every time out he would not have been traded
  16. I think that regardless of who they pick there will be someone out there stating how much better the front office could have done with the pick. There were quite a few people voice an opinion on Carlos Correa being picked over Buxton. The last few years those voices were silenced. 3 years from now, who knows. http://www.baseball-reference.com/draft/?year_ID=2012&draft_round=1&draft_type=junreg&query_type=year_round give it a look. 5 years out. Of the top players drafted. it is the high school position players are having an impact. The 2 college players doing well are Stroman, Gausman and Wacha All college pitchers. No hs pitchers, yet.
  17. On pace to do something really means nothing as the final result of the game shows. Effectiveness wears down the second/third time through the order. Jeez Kyle Gibson pitched fairly effectively for all but one inning last time out.
  18. It would seem obvious since spring that Hughes wasn't right as the velocity was staying down, command ? except that people seem to miss it.
  19. http://calltothepen.com/2017/05/21/new-york-yankees-aaron-hicks-play-first-base/ As long as this is a supposed tongue in cheek thread, I thought I would add some more information that the Twins missed out on a golden chance to not only have a backup outfielder with an OPS of 6000000 but also a backup first baseman/DH/God as well thus making an Escobar pinch hit a non issue
  20. It would seem rather strange to replace a player with a major league ops of 771 with a player with a AAA ops of 740 or 664. That the major league player was pinch hit for as a reason to dfa fits a strange. It is the entertaining part of forums
  21. At the end of the game he was charged with 4 runs. He could not pitch 6 innings. You may call that effective, but the effect was the team lost the game with him pitching. Thank you for showing the limitations of fip in the context of winning and losing individual games. That he did not give up a home run keeps the fip score low. An xfip of 4.5, way worse than league average, is not a sign of effectiveness.
  22. Fairly effective is 6 ip and 2-3 runs allowed,
  23. The options on the Dodger that are on the 40 man and uninjured are? They have little choice but to remove doubt. If they need another starter, someone will either have to be injured or dfa'd. In Meyer's case, either could happen.
  24. A hard throwing version of Kinzler? Senor smoked?
