  1. For some the analysis of a problem means finding ways to criticize. They can also justify it by sying they are being tough on the Twins, or whomever. This is the Souhans of the world as well as many on the internet. There is either a culture of playing hurt, maybe exacerbated by misdiagnosis or magically people need an operation suddenly days after the season ends. This year Collabello Nolasco was playing wounded then the knife. A couple years ago Diamond fit the description, before that it was Blackburn. I am not recalling some of the others. They get to be called routine procedures, but if you need a procedure, you are not healthy.
  2. Is he going to sign a 10 year contract? If it is the thought people have to retire at a specific age as you have to retire, that law was changed awhile ago. He has more than enough to retire on now. Is there some other arbitrary age where someone is too senile to hold a job. At his age? What kind of arbitrary analysis is that?
  3. Ruesse is now an expert on baseball attendance? Is there anything he does not know?
  4. Go read the Pioneer Press article on this. Ryan says something about getting a perspective on your club from the outside. He might be gathering such useful information that he might interview the bench or 3b coach from every team. He said the candidates come well prepared to discuss the Twins. If a manager has sucess with the Twins they can look forward to a Gardy type paycheck. Of course they are going to give a good effort.
  5. There are plenty of peole here who can not tell the difference between budget and payroll. Nor do they get the concept that the budget was not spent because Ryan deemed the cost of the player to not be worth the money. Nor does there seem to be an understanding that there are players who can make choices on where they want to play. Part of that choice is not the land of 10000 lakes.
  6. You had me until you listed Julio Franco as strength and coditioning. Hard to take the statements after that seiously
  7. Arbitration eligible can get expensive in a hurry for someone who has produced like Donaldson. "Team control" is not what it could be for the arbitration process
  8. The defectors can't go back to Cuba as long as the politics remain the same. They have to go to extraordinary legths to get out of Cuba and make money. I do not think many would show love for the country's politicians. I doubt if anyone under the age of 60 even knows that there was a ballplayers once in Cuba named Oliva, Tiant or Pascual that played for the Twins. They would not come here based on Oliva's playing days. They would appreciate the organization for having someone assesable who went through the same things that they have. If in your life you feel that older people are not paying much mind to what you say, think about your Rolling Stones comment.
  9. If Molitor wants to manage why would he stay in a support role where he was passed over for the role he desires?
  10. Oakland is noted for trading players before they get expensive. Donaldson for Sano and a couple of C grade pitchers.
  11. Did any of the players really ammount to anything more than the same filler you can pick up off a waiver wire. If the Twins can make that kind of trade, like the Tigers did, they could send about 10 prospects. You could probabbly send the Marlins every Twins prospect with the letter P to start their first or last name and come out ahead. NB Polanco, Pinto, Peterson, Pineda, Penilla, and paulson
  12. I think whoever Ryan hires for manager there will be some history between the two. I don't think Ryan Ryan likes strangers too well. If they hire Dougie Baseball as manager I would think he would have an idea of coaches he would like to work with. He has been around baseball to know people.
  13. It worked forKC this year. I did not work last year with a better ptching staff. How many teams have added players to no avai
  14. Being rushed implies they were not ready for the major leagues. Like Hicks. Could you enlighten me on how they were rushed? Would Berrios be considered rushed to AAA? Polanco fit the bill in going to AA? You can play at a level or you can't. If you can't play at a level higher than a level you had not played much at then you were rushed. If you can, somebody did right by the player.
  15. I could really get on the fire Gardenhire bandwagon except all I read for reasons to fire is conjecture and hyperbole. Unless I missed it, at least no one said to fire the manager because you can't fire the players. In terms of the on field product I would think there is a daily evaluation of what happened. The FO should be doing assessments of the players. If there is a difference between what you got on the field and for performance and what you expected out of the player then you have to figure out if it is the player or the manager responsible. That would hold true for the getting more than expected as well as the less than expected. So if the balance is a little less, you get the coach shuffle that was seen a couple of times. When you get a lot less than you expected, then Ryan will fire.
  16. Before TJ I believe Pefrey had an average velocity of 93 on his fastball and he could hit 98. Lousy K rate in the 5 something range. Now if he gains about the 2 mph a certain left hander did when he moved to the bullpen maybe his K rate will double like the lefthander's did. If it worked that way for Pelfrey he could be cheap a 5 mil for the value he would bring as a quality 8th ining guy
  17. The entertainment business is about making monet. Did attendance go up in 1986 because Andy Mcphail was a new GM? The don't bother to sell a jersey with the GM's name on it. (I don't recall seeing a XXXXL Gardenhire, Anderson, Vavre, or other coackes name on a jersey, either) Changing management by fan's whims makes about as much sense as signing a catcher to an 8 year contract because they are a fan favorite.
  18. By WAR the staff is ithe middle of the pack. By the defense independent metrics the Twins are not the worse. Intrestingly, thy are not that far behind KC
  19. TEOLAWKI. Bernier was in a game.
  20. Polanco isn't going to Florida
  21. I do not get the bromance He had a below league average K/9, K% and way below K%-BB%. A few 5 inning shutouts, more pounded outs
  22. A 22 year old future Ace type for any Twins regular. LikeI said, Santa GM S what the A's gave to Chicago and Boston.
  23. If the team is only 80 wins good the GM better keep working to see where he can find another 15 wins. Bullpen, LF, CF, 4OF, RF and number 1 starter all need better production. Althouh it has it's flaws, assume it is equally flawed for all teams for a minute and use WAR. The Twins will have 3 pitchers and maybe 5 position players with a WAR above 2. There are no 5's For the Twins to be even a .500 team Vargas, Suzui, Escobar, Plouffe, and Santana have to prove that 2013 was not a fluke. Mauer in the oposite direction has to prove that 2013 was a fluke. You are correct for starting pitcing that the only addition should be a toparm.
  24. The only reason to trade Plouffe would be that you had an offer you couldn't refuse. You know the trade poposal that make you think the other GM is a little like Santa. If Sano is deemed near ready and a GM sees a player he needs for his team, Plouffe could fetch a high return. Ryan is not above fleecing a team in a trade.
  25. When you have a top 5 player at a position, you can say it is set. When you are only above average at a position you still need t look to see how you can get better. There are more than enough poitions manned by players that could be replaced if the price was right. You may be correct on the line up, by no means should they not look to upgrade positions that they can.
