Trade Jeffers and Wallner in a package. Excellent short term help at Catcher and a potential DH with excellent upside power …… like Larnach, a platoon guy v. RH pitching. Both are just occasional corner outfielders. Wallner is almost $ free. Larnach has value this year and going forward for Twins! Trade Bell and young arm for some value. Larnach shifts to DH and line-up has better consistency……..allows Jenkins a role in OF, if Team thinks this makes sense. Clemens - Buxton - Keaschall in OF (w/Roden or Jenkins)…… Larnach & Martin (OF) at DH ……. Caratini/Jackson ……… Lee - Kreidler - Arraez or Culpepper - Lewis. Go big w/prospects to Giants for Luis!!!

Report: Rival Teams Expect Twins To Trade Ryan Jeffers
JD-TWINS replied to Matthew Taylor's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
I really like how Jeffers has matured into a much more consistent contributor at the plate …….tough to see him go! Has become a high level hitter!! Team just spent first two picks on Catchers. Longer term extension, anything more than 1 or 2 years doesn’t seem realistic to me. I’d extend Jackson for 2 years at $5.5M total. I assume that if the QO goes away, Owners will get to use the approach at least one more time prior to rule change. Offer Jeffers the QO. Trade Caratini now - with another year under contract and decent performance this season with much bigger workload, switch hitter, can play 1B……..his value at deadline (now) is as high or higher than Jeffers! Trade Bell and Wallner and pitching prospect for a relief arm…….. target Pittsburgh, IMO. O’Neil Cruz out remainder of the season & they are in the hunt. Saving $14M on Bell & Caratini. Make a big swing with prospects for Luis Arraez and his $12M salary. …….if upcoming negotiations create a floor for Team spending, I try to re-sign Luis for 2-3 years. With Arraez hitting #3 or #5 and protecting Buxton or Lewis or Jeffers, line-up becomes much more dangerous! Can play 2B through next year and roll to DH if necessary in last year or two of deal. Arraez allows stability at 2B with solid play. Clemens & Keaschall in corner OF spots w/Martin. If Bell is traded, then Larnach slots at DH for 75% of games going forward. -
Unless Joe’s arm is too fatigued to continue on, Rojas is squarely in the PEN and ahead of Sands in pecking order as well. Gotta give Cole the nod over Adams …… at least at this point. 6 scoreless in AAA before coming back up, hoping this was just a blip. ……can’t do much for one’s psyche when a routine fly ball that should be an out, drops for a double due to Martin’s sun troubles……. that didn’t help his outing & easy to overlook.

55 games remain: 17 games v. AL West ……no Lions there. 17 games in Central Division 3 w/Baltimore & 3 w/Giants 15 games v. some good Clubs! Schedule doesn’t appear daunting to me. Everyone is playing other MLB Teams. Moves made across baseball (including Minneapolis) will shift odds for Twins schedule to increase or decrease in difficulty. Whoever Team plays, if they aren’t sharp, they have no chance…….. essentially the same story across all competitive sports. Oakland Series, to your point, wasn’t exactly a confidence builder! 0 - 2 - 11 runs is not the sign of a “good team”……they were fortunate.

It really makes no sense if the potential FLOOR is $171M for next year…… even if it’s $140M, why trade players that are effective (Ryan - Jeffers - Larnach) ????? Is the plan to pay Royce Lewis & Brooks Lee $15M/year each next year because they don’t have anyone else to spend $$ on after this year’s trades??

If there’s a $140M floor for Team spending after labor/ownership bargaining & Pablo is gone after ‘27 ……… Correa’s off the books after next year as well ……. that’s $32M available starting in ‘28 that isn’t available now. ……… I keep Jeffers and give him the QO to consider. …….. trade Caratini & Bell now while value is near this season’s peak. Both veterans and both switch hitters…… Caratini is under control through ‘27. I’d extend A. Jackson for two years at $5-$5.5M total. Lots can change this winter ……. more things to consider than just a lockout.

Seattle has, even in a very down year, Cal Raleigh …….. zero interest in Jeffers for 2 months……..to me, they have only interest in OFFENSIVE HELP! Larnach can help anybody if they are truly on the cusp. Rotation next year is Bradley - Ryan - Lopez - Abel (assuming health) with either Rojas or Prielipp …….. PEN still has the 4 guys you mentioned. They also give Jeffers the QO and keep the 3rd best hitter on the Club, Larnach. Trades at the deadline or in off-season have to strengthen what opportunity you have now or in the very near future. Seems to me that with Abel - Prielipp - Rojas - Matthews - Ober, Team should have the 4 & 5 slots for next year covered. Find a reliever in the next 10 days by trading Bell - Wallner - Caratini - Roden in some combination. Extend Alex Jackson! He’d sign for 2 more years at $2,6M/year. He helps greatly with the bridge to Lackey &/or Tinney.

Lots & lots of prospects look a hell of a lot better 12 months later……… another article so people can bitch about Falvey. Rojas & Roden for Varland is/was a good trade. Duran for Abel & Tait is a good trade. Jax for Bradley is a good trade. The three guys acquired very well may be 3 of Team’s 5 rotation pieces in ‘27. I understand the EMOTIONS but gotta be realistic. They acquired 23 year old lefty that throws 95-97 & a talented right hander at age 24 & a guy that touches 100 mph a couple times a game at age 25. Roden & Tait are essentially throw-ins. Jax - age 31 Varland - age 28 Duran - age 28 Again, I get being upset & emotional but the trades make a hell of a lot of sense!

How did the one batter Prielipp didn’t pitch to in the 6th “…..cost us 6 runs”? Sands sucked for sure but it looked to me he would have been knocked around if he came in after 5 2/3 or after 6 innings. They were up 7 runs when Sands came into the game…….he should be able to navigate through a few outs w/o giving up 5 runs. They picked him to rest other guys as he was fresh - he was just not sharp! Prior to today, Kreidler hit .160 over previous 10 game stretch with 5 total hits. Including today, Clemens has hit .150 over last 10 games …….2 HR the other day and 2 triples today, but only 6 hits over last 10 games. Lewis has 8 hits and 2 HR in last 10 games with 8 runs scored ….. & with a .229 avg.

Right on with Buxton, often feast or famine. Lewis, he was terrible for 2 months and went down for a bit and elevated his stats considerably since coming back. He’s got a loooong swing and he will probably always struggle with pitches moving toward the outer part of the plate & beyond. Has a couple line drive doubles in last 2-3 games. I just think he can only be “hot” for a limited time……he’s playing average or better at 3 spots on defense and performing at least at a league average at the plate since his return…….all I see are positives with his performance.

Hey - where’s there a hint of regression from Larnach?? Lumping him in with Kreidler - Bell - Clemens is nuts. He can’t get the game winning hit every other day - right? As of Sunday morning he’s hitting .293/.381/.457 with 3rd highest OPS on the Team & a 135 OPS+. Not sure how high he has to elevate his game to get any respect in this forum?……”trade him …… why tender him……his defense sucks …… he costs too much ……he can’t hit lefties …… why isn’t he hitting HR’s at a higher clip” every flippin’ negative that could possibly be mentioned, and the guy just keeps rolling, 2/3 of the way through the season! IMO, fans here need to open their eyes to reality.

TEAM needs to score runs, as many here have pointed out. Leading the League in runs sounds great but over the last 7 days the Run totals have been …… 2-1-4-2 - 10 - 3-0 …….no chance to win 4 of last seven solely due to lack of run support! Remember, the game they scored 3 runs in, they had 1 run through 11 innings. 12 runs over 6 games…… and a ten spot…… roll the 10 runs into the total and they averaged 3.14 runs/game ……. still UGLY! Trade Bell for whatever ……. trade Wallner & Roden & AA arm somewhere for an effective relever…….trade Caratini (with another piece) for relief depth & offer Jeffers QO for next year when time comes………put together an attractive package to Giants for Arraez (consistency) to hit in 3 or 5 hole, protecting somebody and getting hits w/guys on base. Lewis at 1B every day with Arraez at 2B every day. Clemens to corner OF. Larnach to DH (75%). Arraez is less money than Bell & Caratini combined, for balance of the year……improves defense and offensive consistency! W/Roden & Caratini gone, I jump on the Jenkins & Culpepper bandwagon to fill out 26-man.

I try to stay upbeat as well! Zebby currently throws, sinker-slider-4seam-cutter-curve-changeup…….. I would argue he needs to lose 2 pitches and get better with the other 4 ……. doesn’t need to be adding two more. Zebby is OK. His command in the zone is not great, particularly with hanging sliders & 4-seam close to middle-middle, routinely. He’ll get better. Personally, I think he’d be more effective with stuff and with his mental approach (more focus) as a reliever (in future). His velocity would pop to 97+ and he could trim to 4 pitches which is plenty when facing 3-5 guys per game. He’s a multi-pitch Louie.

Is Zebby Matthews's Future in the Rotation?
JD-TWINS replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
His mentality, from just watching him maybe 50% of the time, is he loses focus. His command in the zone can often be brutal (middle - middle). Short stints in relief may relieve him of multiple inning mental burden? His stamina is good - he’s similar to Varland in that regard. 3-4 one inning stints/week from the PEN while leaning on slider, Curve, occasional change, & reduced use of fastball…. that would probably tick back up to 96+. On paper, he seems like a potentially solid 7th inning guy. -
Preach!! 100% agree ……. Thomas wouldn’t be a terrible addition but with Keaschall & Martin available on either side of Buxton, an acquisition like this seems less productive than adding Michael Wacha ($17M in ‘27) or Brady Singer (FA in ‘27)! …….. my assumption is a few clubs might approach Reds for Singer as a depth piece …… I live in Cincinnati and over last few weeks he’s been way better than previously - much better than overall ‘26 stats…… will he sustain?? Playing for a Team that has a chance is a motivator. Should inquire on Singer…..Matthews or Prielipp would become the “addition to the PEN”.

My very same take - due to low speed, I’d have him hit 3rd or maybe 5th to protect someone and get hits with others on base though.

Jeffers, to date, has been part of the poor OPS v. lefties this year - trying to improve would be the reasoning to acquire Thomas. Dont see Baltimore or Detroit helping the Twins - both are seemingly still in the hunt.

Twins 3, Guardians 1: Patience Pays Off
JD-TWINS replied to Sam Caulder's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
They have 3 each with what might be the worst two teams in AL, at home……..Bobby Witt Jr. to the 60 day IL……then at Seattle. 6-3 and they are buying. I’m all for trading Caratini, switch hitting Catcher with another year of control. Trade Bell & Wallner to somebody needing a DH. Hopefully, this yields one usable arm. Larnach to platoon DH…… put a package together to Giants for Luis Arraez. Our two former 2nd baseman are then playing corner OF.- 58 replies

JD-TWINS replied to Sam Caulder's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
17 games left against American League West 21 games left in American League Central 3 with the Giants late September & 3 with Baltimore mid September. So w/o any big subtractions & Prielipp/Sands coming back Team plays 44 games against teams no better than them on Paper. 5 tough 3 games series to navigate.- 58 replies

Twins Daily's Top-20 Prospects Gets a Post-Draft Shakeup
JD-TWINS replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Rojas is 23 & Varland is 28……..Louie was in the Minors with essentially just a fastball at age 23 (age 23-26, nothing special!…….just a sentimental favorite of Minnesotans) ……..maybe wait until Rojas gets through age 24 season before passing a black & white judgement? Duran is fantastic, FO makes moves on Veterans often because Ownership doesn’t want to be involved with a probable Big Contract. Duran is 28 & Mick Abel is 24 ….. Tait is 19…….”prospects” don’t make an immediate impact on a club. and no, they don’t all work out. On July 23, I don’t hear too many at TD complaining about the Jax for Bradley trade - right? Griffin Jax is 31 & Taj Bradley is 25.- 66 replies

Trade Caratini now - release Bell at end of season, possible deadline trade piece. (i.e. Bell & Wallner to Pittsburgh - O’Neil Cruz on 60 day IL recently)……….Caratini & Bell are $14M combined. Helps use payroll elsewhere, maybe Jeffers with $23M QO? If Bell is traded with some other piece……hopefully, an arm comes back. Larnach slots at DH for 75% of games v. every RH pitcher. Moving Bell, as you mention, opens a slot for a potential young OF. Payroll has to expand in ‘27 ……spent $155 - $160M in ‘23……can’t repeatedly be $105M! If Larnach continues his current play he’ll get $9M, or close, in arbitration……he makes $4.5M now. Ober’s value is TBD. I like moving Bell & one of the 2 Catchers at deadline……..come up with some prospect (2 young guys & Wallner or Roden) package to obtain Luis Arraez…….the salaries traded pay at same level that Arraez $12M pays over remainder of season. ….. Larnach to DH - Arraez at 2B - Clemens and Keaschall man the corners in OF. Much more consistent output from Arraez in the 3 hole protecting Buxton batting 2nd! Arraez back in the Twin’s dugout would help ease the sting of Bell & one of Catchers being traded.
-
I agree on trading Caratini with high value for him……he’s under contract next year…. more leverage for immediate help. Offer Jeffers QO. Do we think there’s a spending floor for ownership? If yes, the may still be a chance to extend Jeffers past next year. ……. Assuming Lackey is in play for ‘28 so 1 more year of Jeffers seems to be sufficient. A spending floor changes things!……..Bell will be gone as well in ‘27…….Caratini & Bell make a combined $14M …… add that to Jeffers current $6M and you’re close to QO $$$ Hoping Caratini’s knee is OK - he looked pretty tender leaving the game tonight!
