  1. Exactly!! As the article says, shop him. This doesn't mean trade him. If you get someone offering a true impact prospect absolutely do it. If not, don't.
  2. In the meantime look up Buxton vs. Left handed pitching. Disgustingly bad. Still in the lineup.
  3. Honestly though, it is put up or shut up time for Buck (assuming he can't play the field). Polanco will be back soon. Julien and Polanco need to be in the lineup. I don't know how you could justify sitting either one for Buck if he continues to be a 200 hitter.
  4. Looking at the Twins lineup in 87, I think Greg Gagne would be our best hitter this year. Obviously, we don't have a Pucket, Hrbek, Gaetti, or even a Brunansky on this team. These Twins have better pitching, but I don't know if we have a single starter I would take over Viola or Blyleven to start a postseason game. I'm not sure I see many parallels between the two teams.
  5. Usually the Twins trade for the pitchers first then put them on the IL for the year.
  6. Who would be a draft choice that doesn't meet your criteria? Ryan Jeffers? He has worked out well. Brian Dozier is another.
  7. I don't blame Lewis though. Betts hasn't had to spend the bulk of the last 3 years rehabbing acl tears. If he did he may take a different approach. It is a crappy predicament for the Twins though.
  8. It sure is great if you can put the ball in play with no outs and the bases loaded though. As I said, the Twins are bad. 24th is not good. Maybe a player or two could move the needle who knows. I'm not as optimistic as you obviously.
  9. It is wild that the Twins have so many premium athletes that either can't play defense at all (Buxton), or won't play certain positions (Royce and Max). You certainly don't sign guys like this thinking they will clog up DH and eliminate roster flexibility. Twins are in a weird spot where they have hitters who are not premium athletes but no where to play them because DH, Third, and Right are clogged by the best athletes on the team.
  10. The Twins are on a pace to strike out over 1600 times this season (currently 47 more SO than any team in baseball). No team in the history of the game has ever struck out 1600 times in a season. While not historically bad in any other offensive category, they are bad in virtually all of them. Anyhow, the point is that this offense is putrid. They make decent pitchers like Kyle Gibson look like prime Johan Santana on a fairly consistent basis.
  11. THIS!! If the Twins dominate the next 15 games (11 wins or more), go ahead and buy. If they stumble out of the break sell or play it out. That simple.
  12. You are omitting an important detail. The Twins have been legendarily bad (on pace to set records for futility) at hitting. It doesn't appear to be a fluke. We added at the deadline last year when it had been obvious for two months that the team just wasn't very good. If you watch this team, it is pretty clear we are struggling to be average. I see more utility in shopping Maeda, Gray, Polanco, Solano and seeing what people will offer.
  13. I am still of the belief that we either need to take massive swings to go for it (Premium bat that can play 1st or corner infield and a bullpen arm), or you need to sell. The status quo would be a massive missed opportunity. If Polanco returns healthy from August on, this lineup could look pretty different with one big addition. Goldschmidt at 1st could push Kirillof to left. This combined with the return of Polanco and Royce has me interested come postseason. Without big additions, this team needs to consider selling, particularly (only) if they get an enticing offer.
  14. They both have no upside. The contract difference is legitimate. Buck has a bum knee that apparently can't be addressed with a medical approach or rest. He is the definition of no upside.
  15. I'm sure teams have figured out to pitch him carefully. As bad as guys like Buck, Gallo, and Kepler have been, I wouldn't let Royce or AK beat me. Who is protecting these guys Willi Castro and Ryan Jeffers?
  16. Buck is 1 for 18 in his last 6 games with 8 strikeouts. He had a big game 7 games ago (2hr). That game was about it for the month. In the month of June he hit 6 for 49 with 20 strikeouts and 3 home runs. This is a player who can only DH. We could give his at bats to any player regardless of position. HE HIT 120 and STRUCK OUT 40% OF HIS ABs. In May he was 15 for 84 with 27 strikeouts and 3hr. Max has also been bad, but better than Buck in May and June at the plate. He is also physically capable of playing a position.
  17. Players that are "not hurt" are typically medically capable of playing all components of the game. When a guy (who one year ago was considered among the best fielders in the game) can't play one inning in the field as a late game replacement, they are hurt. There is NO ONE on the active roster right now who is less valuable. Julien, who is awful defensively, is more valuable than Buck because he can attempt to play defense. Look at his hitting numbers from May and June. He has been really bad at the plate. The only thing keeping him on the roster right now is sunk cost (which is a poor reason).
  18. It is possible that we go from the 8th or 9th best team in the AL to the 10th or 11th best. This is an acceptable potential cost of adding talent to the organization in my opinion. It is also possible that the team continues on the current pace. Honestly, the most likely outcome of doing nothing at the deadline is being overtaken by the Guardians again anyway.
  19. It is possible that the Twins could sell AND win the division and possibly a playoff game. A playoff rotation fronted by Ryan, Lopez, and Over would be just fine. Losing Gray and or Maeda would hurt, but could contribute to building a special team down the road. One that can harbor greater ambition than "ending old narratives" (winning a game). I guess I can see both arguments. If the Twins don't sell they have to add an impact bat. Taking this offense as is down the stretch is a waste of assets. I am no longer willing to hope for a return to health for Polanco and Buck. They can't be counted on. We need hitters who are physically able to play baseball.
  20. Kepler can play defense at a reasonably high level. Doesn't this make him significantly more valuable than Buxton, who "physically can't" play the field?
  21. "We don't do a lot based on one particular day". We are nearly through half a season and are on pace to set the record for strikeouts!! Our team has been insanely poor ALL YEAR with the bases loaded! Did Rocco just notice today that our at bats are consistently not great 😂? How many games of mind numbingly poor offense are required before we would consider doing "a lot"?
  22. "It's not the baseball we're accustomed to from our team" What the heck is Rocko talking about? Since June of last year, this is exactly the baseball I have become accustomed to seeing from this team. I hope we keep stacking losses so that we sell at the deadline, or at least prevent the FO from burning more assets on this steaming turd of a baseball team. Keep those assets and at least leave me with hope that things will be better in years to come.
  23. I don't dislike Buck, but I just can't watch this anymore. I feel a constant sense of dread watching him play, even when things are going well. It is comparable to the feeling I get watching my 1 year old run happily towards my entertainment center. On one hand the pure joy of seeing him run, on the other the looming threat that he will injure himself. Although, my 1 year old is pretty durable. I want off this ride, and I would be happy to see Buck put it together and dominate for someone else. I just don't want to watch this anymore.
  24. Seth maybe there is an explanation for this, but I noticed something interesting in our starter game logs. Neither Pablo or Ryan have been pulled after 80 or fewer pitches this season. After his first start Pablo has thrown fewer than 88 just once (83). Joe Ryan has typically sat somewhere between the high 80's and 100 pitches when pulled. Sonny Gray seems to be treated differently. He has been pulled with pitch counts in the 70's 4 times. He wasn't particularly bad in any of these starts. Obviously P Lopez has had rougher outings. What could explain the tendency to hook Gray in the 70's while never doing so with your other top starters?
