  1. I really think the Twins have the other top relief pitcher in the minors, Canterino. Duran was a starter in the minors and now is doing well as a reliever. Plus, we want to be very restrictive on their innings anyway. Use them on alternate days with an extra day for a blowout at some point. Have them pitch the 8th and 9th sometimes like Duran is. Coulombe and eventually Alcala will help and then one or two trades at the deadline. I actually would like to give Cano some time to adjust to MLB hitters. He seems to have the fastball. If the Twins bats would just get going, someone like Cano could get that time. The Twins hitters are currently the ones putting stress on the bullpen to be perfect every night.
  2. Kirilloff is hot and now is getting extra base hits. Twins need more of that. Let's call him up and give Miranda more time with the Saints. I would call up Lewis as well and that would mean the end for Gordon (unless Polanco's ankle is bad enough for the IL, which it doesn't sound like it is). Lewis looked good on the highlights defensively playing 3B tonight. 2022 MLB requires more speed and Lewis would give that at 3B (love Gio's D though). Sorry Saints, just when you start looking good, we want to poach your best guys. Wichita is missing their Steer, but that "wind surge" blew him up to the Saints. And he is playing great there. Gipson-Long and Haijar dominating their leagues.
  3. I still think it's too early to count Cavaco as a bust. He is still like the 5th youngest on his team I believe. He started out okay this year, went on the IL and came back with a month-long slump. But look at his recent run - 10 for 24 in his last 6 games. But he has to keep improving this year. No more, "he's young" excuses at the end of the year.
  4. Barring an injury to Polanco, Steer's path to the Twins in 2022 is not clear. 3B does not seem like an option as Miranda, Lewis and Urshela are all ahead of him at the moment. But 2023 is another story.
  5. The first of many reinforcements to come has arrived in St. Paul. Spencer Steer has been called up from Wichita.
  6. Lewis has played 4 games after being sent down - SS, 3B, LF and SS. Interestingly, he is 6 for 8 while playing SS and 0 for 9 with 5 strikeouts in the other two positions. With Vallimont DFA'ed, Strotman can't be far behind when we need to DFA someone. He hardly ever pitches a clean inning when I look at the box scores.
  7. Actually, Urshela didn't pinch hit. Correa replaced Miranda on defense and, since Gordon doesn't play third, Urshela went in as a defensive replacement in the 8th inning.
  8. Luis Gil trade kind of the opposite of Paddack trade, in my opinion it was better for the Yanks. Well, he is also having TJ surgery. Trade for any pitcher and you take that risk I guess.
  9. Kirilloff wants to be back up playing 1B for the Twins. 4 for 5 with 3 rbi's including a double and homer and the game isn't over yet tonight for the Saints. Only one game but it's a nice start.
  10. Miranda got hit by a 43 mph pitch by a position player according to the radio announcers.
  11. Lewis at 1B - No. Total waste of his fielding development to put him here. OF - No, don't want to risk an overzealous rookie getting hurt by crashing into a fence without at least some games out there at AAA. Plus, with Larnach back soon, Kepler, Buxton, Celestino, Larnach and Gordon have OF covered. 3B - Maybe. If they are going to play him 4 or 5 times per week here and 1 or 2 at SS each week. The Twins defense will be worse as Urshela is great at 3B and Lewis hasn't played there in years. What will the Twins do? I say Lewis goes back to St. Paul, either when Correa comes back on Wednesday or when Correa is back to full-time, as I think he will get days off like Buxton. Playing SS is the most fun and complex position on defense. If Lewis does play elsewhere this year, he will be making more errors there next year for the Twins so people had better be ready for that. As far as hitting, unless he gets in a big slump, it is better for Lewis to be seeing major league pitching. Tough call.
  12. Lewis will not be playing 1B. We don't want to stop his development on defense. He's got the talent but needs the reps at SS to improve after missing two years. I don't see him in the OF either for the Twins unless he first plays there for the Saints. Can you imagine the uproar if he were to play there and got seriously injured running into the fence because he hasn't played a game there in 3 years. We would have Buxton 2.0 on the injury side. When Correa returns, 3B would be the one option but Urshela would then move to 1B or DH. Since Lewis hasn't played there since 2019, our defense would we be worse as Urshela has played great D there. In the end, do you sacrifice the defensive development of our SS in 2023 and beyond in order to win in 2022 by getting Lewis bat in the Twins lineup and his speed on the bases?
