Are the Twins Brewing up Steals in the Minors?
FlyingFinn replied to Matt Braun's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
When MLB moves to bigger bases, steals will increase dramatically. Most caught stealing attempts are only out by a fraction. Good for the Twins to be ready for this change. Wallner? - seriously, 8 steals? Who knew?- 16 replies

Twins Minor League Report (6/21): Matt Wallner is Surging
FlyingFinn replied to Steve Lein's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Should have been an incredible 6-0 night for our minor league teams but Moran and Cano blew the Saints game. Bad news as these are guys we would like to be pushing to come back up and push guys out of the Twins bullpen. Wallner needs to move up to St. Paul. After a horrid start, this is a long, great run he is having. As for Austin Martin, we have had multiple questions about why he played only one game last week and no answer that I know of. I'm not ready to give up on him, especially if he's battling through an injury. Nice pitching last night. Henriquez had a decent game, something we never say about Strotman. Gipson-Long, Festa, Carr all also had decent games as well as some good outings from the relief pitchers on their teams. Fun to look at minor league teams this season.- 22 replies

Austin Martin sitting for the third time in four games. Must be a nagging injury? What do we know about Cespedas? His bat has started off hot.

This is all about age. He is 4 years younger than Winder and Strotman. He is the same age as SWR but pitching one level higher. He needs to improve and show some improvement this year just because he takes up a 40 man roster spot.

Looked like a nice crop of starters tonight but it was not their night. Headrick, Gipson-Long and Adams all had one of their poorest outings of the year.

Austin Martin sat out both games of the double header. Any news on a minor injury?

I've got Kirilloff coming up on Sunday, after the string of 3 lefty starters for the opponents are done. Since we have to get down to 13 pitchers, Thornburg or Cotton will be gone, unless we are done with Duffey. Barring an injury, the decision will then be between Miranda and Garlick. Without Garlick, we should be rotating Buxton so he always plays CF against lh's with Celestino in the OF as well. Garlick has one option left I believe so he would go to St. Paul to wait for the next injury to bring him back up. That is one reason the Twins are waiting IMO as they don't want to use up everyone's options.

Facing 3 lefties in a row later this week. Roster changes to allow only 13 pitchers in a week. I think Kirilloff will be called up on Sunday.

Some new hitters need to step up for the minor league teams. Take Lewis away from the Saints and they go on a big losing streak. Call Steer up and move Kirilloff down and they are hitting like crazy. Take Steer away from the Wind Surge and they can't score much of anything. Time for Austin Martin to step up for them. Emmanuel Rodriguez gets hurt for the Mighty Mussels and suddenly they are having problems scoring much. One great hitter seems to make the whole lineup better.

Twins 6, Rays 5: Arraez Slam Leads Twins over Rays
FlyingFinn replied to Sherry Cerny's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I think most disagree with this - I think Rocco (and I believe this is a combined Rocco and management decision) is doing the right thing by resting Correa and Buxton on a day that a man named Chi Chi is the starting pitcher. The odds were against winning with both in the lineup. They odds are less with only one of Correa and Buxton playing. So, rest both of them - maybe you lose by 10 and come back and win the next day by 1. Or maybe, as happens in baseball, you actually win the game without them. Tampa has to be demoralized to have lost this game with our starting pitcher and with our big bats on the bench. Nice job by Chi Chi today after a rough first inning, which included a swinging bunt single. He gave us a chance today.- 76 replies

Three Reliever's That Could Work Into High Leverage
FlyingFinn replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I see Pagan and Duran handling the closer role until the trade deadline. It will depend how they do and how healthy they are as to what level of closer the Twins get then.- 17 replies

Can Nick Gordon Carve Out a Niche Role on the Twins?
FlyingFinn replied to Matt Braun's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Lewis getting injured probably makes Gordon's spot secure through the rest of the season. I think he gives 100% all the time. But he is not good for a major league SS and I don't see him making the roster next year as Lewis comes back, Martin hopefully is pushing to come up and Palacios plays better SS and does play LF (but not CF). I think the 40 man will have Palacios on it if Correa leaves because of Lewis injury. If Correa should stay, Palacios will be gone and Gordon could stay until Lewis is ready. -
Twins Minor League Report (6/10): A Near Sweep
FlyingFinn replied to Lucas Seehafer PT's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
No. I see Varland as a duplicate of Sands (AA stats from Sands last year are actually slightly better than Varland's AA stats this year). They need to work one level at a time as they don't have the stuff of a Canterino, who I think could make the jump if healthy.- 12 replies

Twins Minor League Report (6/10): A Near Sweep
FlyingFinn replied to Lucas Seehafer PT's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
CES - didn't realize he was quite that bad in the field at 3B. If he is going to be a DH candidate don't draft Berry this year as he sounds like a carbon copy of CES.- 12 replies

Fear the Steer. What an ending! He is this year's Miranda. Almost want to trade Polanco for Montas and call up Steer but neither team would probably do that.

Great games by all the teams. That's the good. The very bad is Canterino to the IL and Emmanuel Rodriguez on crutches. OUCH!
