  1. I believe the plate appearances lock in the contract for next year but not hitting it means it becomes the Twins option whether or not to decline the option year. Makes it all the more concerning if I have that right, with Polanco normally playing through pain, that he is now unable to take the field.
  2. Yikes! Remind me not to turn to you to brighten my Sundays. Seriously, I appreciate all the information. Buxton and Kirilloff (sounds like he is hitting the ball hard!) seem to be on schedule or very close to it. Duran's had better be a bruise. Kepler - if goes to the IL, because they just sent Wallner down, do the Twins have to use up one of Wallner's options to bring him back up before the season?
  3. I also am wondering how Lewis and Lee ranked higher in the power department than Chris Williams who had 18 homers in AA and 10 in AAA last year (50 extra base hits in total).
  4. Keep Moran. I can see Hoffman in the long relief role because of his increased velocity and the opt outs. Rather it be in place of Pagan but it may be for Megill. But he better pitch great right away because this is the spot the Twins use for the train back and forth to St. Paul - pitch 5 innings in a game and down to St. Paul you go with Sanchez or someone coming up for the next shift.
  5. Is it just me or are road teams, including the Twins, more often than previous years bringing mostly AA/AAA lineups to road games and playing the regulars at home games? That makes the spring training stats even more worthless to evaluate for major leaguers as they aren't getting to face many players that are at their level.
  6. Excellent thought. Maybe that is why he threw two innings today........................hmmm..........
  7. Enlow has been one of the most disappointing players in camp for me, along with Pagan and Megill. These are guys who shouldn't be working on stuff. They should be pitching their best to make the team, or in Enlow's case, to show that he is fully back from surgery.
  8. He's not going to be playing corner OF. 2B, 1B and DH are pretty much his options.
  9. If there really is a competition at the back end of the bullpen, don't see how Coulombe isn't winning over Pagan and Megill so far. Three LH's in the pen could be good as well. Only negative is he would require a 40 man roster move.
  10. Ober throwing another three innings of near perfect ball today. Of course, it is against Pittsburgh and not sure if many of these guys are regulars.
  11. That's just wrong. Pretty soon, the catchers glove is 6" outside the strike zone. Exactly why we need the electronic strike zone, the umpires should be calling strikes as if there isn't any catcher there. Just use the actual strike zone.
  12. If Martin misses the entire season (and do they figure that out half way through the season and possibly lose part of next season), so many guys pass him by (Lewis, Lee, Julien) that I think the Twins take a chance on the Rule 5 draft and don't put him on the 40 man.
  13. " Nick Gordon, who suffered a high ankle sprain last week, has been cleared for betting" Appreciate the very detailed reports but you should probably leave out the players who are cleared for "betting." :) Very good news on the injury front other than Kirilloff.
  14. If everyone is healthy (wouldn't that be a miracle) and playing well, we will only see Lewis this year, and that would be mostly in the OF. Early injuries opens the way for Julien. The later it gets into the season, it will more likely be Lee. Rodriguez and Raya getting to AA this year seems like where they will end up. Will be exciting if all of them stay healthy. The Twins would love to have the problem that the vets played great and the prospects and trying to break the door down to the major leagues.
  15. Totally agree. Most everyone said that last Septembers injury was an aberration. I hope everyone is right. I see a guy who played while somewhat injured for years (kudos to him for playing every day but it may have taken its toll), who looked like an old man while walking last September, and who hasn't been seen in spring training this year. The Twins will be much better with a healthy Polanco this year, but will he be healthy??
  16. You can find plenty of young guys who can throw strikes and top out at 90 mph. 99% of them won't make it the majors. Let this young guy who already throws it at 97 mph focus on control first and then he can start locating the pitches better and the hits will go down. Sounds like he has already been improving on things over the past year. He's my pick to rise like David Festa did last year.
  17. Duly noted. But if Camargo wanted to make it to the majors, he could also see his best shot in Minnesota. One rotten season from Jeffers in 2023 would open up a spot for someone like him in 2024 as a backup if he had a great year with the Saints. But you are probably right as nobody seems excited about him.
  18. I'm going with 13-13 with two snow/rainouts. I don't think it's the most important month of the season because there aren't any games against Cleveland. Even though there are less, the months when we play Cleveland and Chicago more will still be the most important.
  19. I wouldn't list Williams as a catching prospect. Look how little he plays at catcher. Jair Camargo must not be as good as I thought. He seemed to actually play catcher more than other positions, has some pop in his bat (at least he did at AA last year), and is only 23. I thought his defense was good but am only going on what people on TD say. Nobody is talking about him and he isn't getting a shot with the Twins in spring training. Can someone tell me why he isn't a good prospect?
  20. Julien making the team to start the year - only if Polanco is on the IL.
  21. The projected AA rotation in Wichita is looking exciting as well - Headrick, Enlow, Festa with Raya probably joining later in the year.
  22. No harm in giving these guys a shot. There are always lots of moves on the back end of the 40 man roster. When the first catcher injury comes up, it will require a 40 man move to bring up a catcher from the Saints. Catch lightning in a bottle one time and it makes the other 19 moves that didn't work on the 40th man on the roster all worth it. Never know about relievers from one year to the next with many of them.
  23. Well, include me in the confused category then. Gordon sure isn't going to see time in the infield now. Unless there is actually a trade coming up with Kepler and there will be more room in LF for Gordon.
  24. I'm thinking it's a Jake Cave like signing, having depth at AAA. When a spot is needed on the 40 man, they will try run him through waivers.
  25. I am cheering for him as well. Just think his shot is to pitch great at AAA and get traded to a team that has a spot. Only chance would be to sneak in a spot in the long relief role with the Twins before SWR, Varland, etc. are promoted. I just don't think he will be able to prove himself in time to do it. The injuries/performance the past two years cost him his chance when the Twins really needed someone.
