  1. Hmmm....Royals SS prospect Raul Adalberto Mondesi.
  2. Feels like years since I have liked a trade deadline move by a Twins GM.
  3. Approve. Sell high, clear space for blocked MI prospect, add (left handed) pitching prospect. Win, win, and win. Next.
  4. I like the idea of pursuing Profar and think their needs, their surplus, and the Twins needs and trade chip matches nicely. I earlier suggested Santana and Suzuki for Profar, but was scoffed at. Your suggestion of adding Nunez, Abad AND Stewart is certainly increasing the offer. Maybe something between those two extremes?
  5. I'm trying to work out the arbitrage situation here. If I offer to pay the team's remaining salary obligation on this hypothetical Nolasco deal, and put down $700K on your action, I'll come out ahead, right?
  6. I was just trying to think of who has long-term deals. Dozier probably fits the bill more. Teams trade bad contracts, though. Mauer could be moved if a GM were creative.
  7. One other tidbit....Twins prioritizing pitching, and not limiting the search to buyers only. So if they are looking at sellers, that means they would be giving up prospects or players with years left (Ervin or Mauer)? Teheran, Shelby Miller?
  8. I read the LaVelle Q&A and listened to his in-game interview last night. I don't think there is much chance of Antony getting the job long-term, but he has the spot for an important stretch now, so it's important to see what he says. I appreciate how much more open he is than TR was. Clear that he wants to move several players. Talks about how many teams he is talking to, and what stage they are at in those discussions. Will not be trading prospects. Wants young players to get some time in the majors this year getting their feet wet (ahem Berrios). Thinks Ervin might not be traded, because he has value as a mid-to-high (for the Twins) rotation arm on a fairly reasonable two-year deal. (This stance, which I don't agree with per se, represents BUILDING up a player's value, unlike TR's penchant for doing the opposite.) Isn't going to be making any extensions of the Suzuki or Nunez variety. I'm optimistic that he will trade away several players in the next ten days that will accomplish three things: clear some space for more young players to get playing time, clear a bit of salary space which can be utilized in the free agent market later by the next GM, and bring back a few prospects (no big expectations) that might contribute. If he could land a catching prospect that is close, so much the better. I'd like a journalist to ask him what his thinking is about May getting another shot at the rotation. And Meyer as well.
  9. How about catching prospect Reese McGuire from the Pirates? If I recall, Twins were interested in drafting him.
  10. While I think E Santana could be a good pitcher for the Twins next year and possibly in 2018, he is exactly the sort of sought after trade chip that the Twins should deal. (in fact, using FA signings as trade bait is a means of building a strong farm system that the Twins haven't really utilized). In looking over prospect lists, I see a ton of SS prospects. The Mets (and Atlanta) each have two top-rated SS prospects. How about C Austin Barnes and Frankie Montas from the Dodgers for Santana? De Leon (and Urias) are probably too much to ask for from them. A catching prospect would be nice to secure this summer. Gary Sanchez of the Yankees? I don't suppose the Phillies are selling, but Alfaro looks like a decent prospect (and they have a second C prospect). Along with Sanchez, how about two other "post-hype" names - Dylan Bundy of the Orioles, or Jurickson Profar of the Rangers? Profar made a bone-headed play last night at first that cause Hamels to stare him down. I don't think the Twins are that far away from competiveness, but this trade deadline is an opportunity to add some valuable pieces to a nice young core. If they could lock up an up-the-middle SS or C (preferably both) it could be huge for this team.
  11. And he signed, at slot. Hope he does well as he starts his career as a Twin. It's a long slog ahead of him. Looking forward to tracking his progress.
  12. Let's compare Arcia to Grossman. Arcia Minors: 2119 PA, 297/358/517 for a 875 OPS (8 seasons) Majors: 967PA, 240/303/429, 732 OPS (4 seasons) Grossman Minors: 3371PA, 271/379/392, 771OPS (9 seasons) Majors: 870PA, 249/342/370, 712OPS (4 seasons) All told, Arcia out OPS's Grossman 832 to 765. For a team that generally is loyal to their players, why are they throwing away a player they have had in their system for a decade, in favor of an inferior player who happened to have a good 100 at bats?
  13. I hate this move, because it's another example of the Twins driving a player's value down to his lowest point and then selling him / giving him away. It shouldn't need to be said, but buy high, sell low is not the way to run an organization. The Twins prioritized Kintzler, Boshers, Dean, Neil Ramirez, and Grossman over Arcia. Arcia must be thrilled. He will wind up playing on a team will put him in the best position to succeed. And that is, consistent ABs against RHP, either at DH or OF. The fact that most of the regular posters on here, as well as most of the other teams in the league, know this, and the Twins do not, is a huge indictment of the Twins FO and manager.
  14. I think the proper format, especially in the Internet, is "true story."
  15. No, I think we all can agree Gein is a real butcher in the field.
  16. "On board in principle!" is an outstanding rallying cry. For example: "We can fix this thing." I'm onboard in principle! It pithy, versatile, and catchy. Plus you really sold it. Nice work!
  17. Five game hit streak since his recall, including 4 for his last 8. 7 for 19 overall, plus reached on an error (his speed might have factored into the error), beat relay on a double play, and a sac fly. Has 7Ks in the 5 games, and no walks, but has only Ked once per game in last three. SSS, but great start! Hope he gets a hit or two today. Dropping a bunt down would be nice to see, plus a walk or two.
  18. Hold on, hold on, hold on. With last night's win, that makes three straight...series that the Twins have not been swept! Baby steps, baby steps. Plus Dean with 8/0 K/BB performance, has any Twin pitcher come close to that all year?
  19. I'm a little surprised that the combination of Chief's warning, Plouffe's plopout and subsequent mysterious disappearance did not result in a single comment or conclusion that Plouffe was pulled because of his previously scheduled colonscopy.
  20. Can you explain what it means that the DBacks sold Toussant and the Braves have been trying to do that this year?
