    If I was a Twins teammate, I would lobby: a. Gardy, to let Hughes mop up at the end of an upcoming game for the bonus. b. Hughes, to pay for a team dinner if it happened.

    I was at a game that Eades started in CR, and Jorge ended up finishing. I thought Jorge's stuff was much more electric than that of Eades. I think they shipped him to E'town shortly thereafter....

    What a bungled up deal - just once i'd like to see an owner say: "I'm gonna build this stadium for the team, the community, and the fans. I'm rich enough, and want to give something back to the society that made my tremendous wealth possible."

    My one hope would be continued improvement on the part of everybody. Much has been made lately of Plouffe's arrival as a respectable MLB 3rd baseman, and Dozier's all-around game, and even Escobar's as a reasonable MLB SS - if Arcia, Hicks, Gibson see similar improvement next season, and guys like Vargas and Santana continue their current level, they could at least become a middle of the pack team and set the stage for the uber prospects' arrival.

    Nice article. •Mauer is the obvious question mark, given the disparity between past performance/salary and what he has been this year. Hosken Bombo's points are well taken, but I hope he is young enough to turn it around. I'd hate to see him become the Dany Heatley of baseball and just fall off the planet. •I'd love to see an ace in a Twins uni next season. Who knows, maybe the Earth is round after all. •Speed seems like it would be useful on both sides of the game at Target Field. •Totally agree on fundamentals - need Tom Kelly to kick some butt in this organization.

    At the time, contraction seemed a heavy handed attempt to make the Selig family owned Brewers the only team in the upper Midwest. Wouldn't that have been convenient?

    Very bright future for this heavily used part of the Twins lineup.

    I guess if you are gonna stink, stink royally. Buxton, Stewart, and Gordon have been our rewards so far. One more for posterity's sake.

    Boy would it be fun to read the vitriol in here were that to happen There are some interesting internal candidates to replace Gardy, no doubt. Mint would be perhaps the most radical choice of the from-runners mentioned here, and for that reason I would like to see it happen. Wake-up call for the Twinkies.

    When you trade for guys or sign them via free agency, and they go on to have historically bad seasons, like Vanimal, like Nolasco, and now, like Milone, something's gotta give. Maybe Anderson gets some credit, for Hughes, but not necessarily. Our rotation needs a new approach, and letting Anderson go would be a nice first step.

    Good read. I'd add Santana as another guy who generates surprising power with almost no leg kick to speak of.

    Regardless of who who you think is #1 now, they both would have been #1 5 years ago; nice problem to have, Berrios, Meyer, plus Stewart, true potential front line guys. When has that ever happened for this team? We ain't talking Mark Redmond, Jason Bell, and Dan Serafini here. Or Baker, Slowey, Blackburn. Or Mills, Johnson, whoever. Add in Gonsalves, Thorpe, maybe Cederoth. This has been a layer of starting pitching the Twins prospect pool has never had in my time, except if you consider Santana -Liriano, but they both seemed to make their case at the major league level. The pen looks to be in good shape for the future as well.

    I hope these recent somewhat head-scratching drafts pay off in creating a true team strength. The way Gardy manages, a lights out bullpen is essential. Looks like the Twins are on the cusp of having one, and some surplus to boot. Of course, Gardy might not be around long enough to see this truly flower.

    Nice to see some high draft picks scattered throughout this article.

    Would have liked to see Guerra. Romero would have been a feel good after his loyalty to the organization - I expect he will move on next season. I don't know the ins/outs of the 40 man and what not, but I would have liked to see more emphasis on the future and less on rewarding good performance at AAA.

    Thanks much for this - player development is key, but winning along the way is a close second for me. Instilling a winning spirit in the lads can't but help.

    A competent 25 year old SS is nothing to sneeze at. Escobar has been my #1 surprise this season. Santana has been pleasant surprise #1. He seems pretty mature for his age. His athleticism is a nice match for short. Given that we have a top SS prospect in Gordon, and all the rest (Polanco, Michael), I agree with Nick, suddenly shortstops indeed. So so glad we got Burdi instead of Stephen Drew and his .170 BA. BTW, just checked, Burdi's numbers so far: 16 IP 11H 31K.
