  1. Thanks - wow, not easy to find.
  2. I was trying find his PH numbers on BaseballReference, but couldn't find an obvious answer. I seem to remember some PH thunder as a Twin - would like to see the numbers.
  3. That is a good point - he might fit well in the Reds overall bench plan: relieve Votto on occasion, get those PH at bats. Not gonna be the 500 ABs people here think he needs, but useful, esp. for cheap.
  4. So if I'm interpreting the schedule correctly, Gibby gets the home opener?
  5. I am somewhat surprised by the universal helium around Rooker. Where are the negative people? Have to say, with that swing generating that power, I'm on board. Oops forgot this wasn't the Star Trib.....
  6. The whole situation is bass-ackwards. Minor leaguers need the union, not the Major leaguers, i.e. the country club, whose per diems exceed minor league pay, and earn in a year what most folks slave away for until they are 65. I'm gonna puke next time I hear a major leaguer go all Lech Walesa on us and talk about solidarity. The owners are yet more odious, and deserve to lose at every stage, but really, it's millionaires fighting over the crumbs, each of which is a fortune. I used to see ballgames at the Met for $2. Harmon Killebrew used to sell cars in the off-season. The money in MLB is ridiculous. They are a great depression away from irrelevance.
  7. He could be the ace people have been wanting to overpay for after his best years for a long while. He's but a child, and damn good too.
  8. Gordon is looking good so far - encouraging.
  9. Another curiosity about Astudillo: In 8 minor league seasons, over 560 games and 1979 at bats, he has only struck out an astounding 67 times. He has only drawn 75 walks over the same period. The most times he's struck out in a season is 20, over 400+ at bats. Career .311 hitter in the minors. In spite of his cool pickoff, his catching skills must be marginal. http://www.milb.com/player/index.jsp?player_id=553902#/career/R/hitting/2017/ALL
  10. that is actually where I saw it. This gif is more fun to watch. https://i.imgur.com/qvySbKm.gifv
  11. Astudillo made a name for himself vs. the Yankees the other night: https://www.mlb.com/cut4/twins-catcher-willians-astudillo-channeled-magic-johnson-with-this-no-look-pickoff-throw/c-268667674
  12. Silly me - I thought this thread got bumped because Hughes had a fairly solid outing against the Yankees, and people were reconsidering. WRONG!
  13. Tim Brown proclaims the Twins are winners of the off-season: https://sports.yahoo.com/surprise-big-winners-mlbs-ugly-offseason-233533635.html
  14. 2 for 12 seems like a good starting point. Lynn's camp can counter 4 for 50. Meet at 3 for 30ish, everybody happy.
  15. Most home runs by a second baseman in a single season, American League: 40, Brian Dozier. He's been a great Twin for sure.
  16. My expectation for this off-season was to see what the new front office was made of, after a cautious entry into the role, evaluating assets, etc. What I've seen? A combination of good baseball and good money moves. Not wild like Chuck Fletcher, but sound, sensible moves that have made the team better: not by leaps and bounds, but with some improvement by the young core, solid playoff team.
  17. Pounding? Baseball ain't exactly hockey. If you can stand, walk, run a little, you can play the game. :-)
  18. When there is nothing left to be learned in the minors, sink or swim. Or at least tread water.Buxton and Berrios are excellent examples, to be followed.
  19. dallas will be taking over ownership of the Stars in a couple years as well.
  20. Not sure where the ERA over 5 is coming from. Well, it was good enough for him to post a winning record on a below .500 team.
  21. Even if Odorizzi puts up the exact same numbers as last season, it still cements him in as the Twins 3rd best starter.
  22. One simple metric that I've found a reliable indicator of how well some is pitching over the years: Innings Pitched vs. Hits allowed. in 2017: Gibson gave up 182 hits in 158 innings. Santana gave up 177 hits in 211 innings. Odorizzi gave up 117 hits in 143 innings. More like Santana or Berrios than Gibson. He must have some decent stuff.
  23. Tunnelvision is the main problem. See Minnesota from another perspective. The Twins had a nice rebound last season, but they fail to make the shortlist of viable contenders. Top dogs will pick a recent world series champ over a possible aberration almost every time. Or a top living location: So. Cal. vs. Minnesota? If you didn't grow up here, not a lot to get excited about. The Winfields, Molitors, Morrisses, and Steinbachs will come back home, or maybe an avid fisherman. The others, well, considering most ball players are southerners or from the Caribbean, let's not hold our breath.
  24. Well, what is Tampa bay gonna take but the cream? Nobody has the Twins at the top of their farm system rankings. Hey, haven't I read you yourself advocating free agent over trade?
