  1. This is apples and oranges. They cut to $169 million! Twins fans would be doing backflips to have a $169 million payroll. The premise of this article is silly.
  2. I’m thinking about 2025 the lack of progress by our younger players really casts a doubt over next year. If one assumes they are not spending in free agency and that they are not bringing Santana back it looks like this to me regarding the lineup. Buxton and Correa are written in pen. So are Vázquez and Jeffers. Not because either is great they simply have nobody else. That 3 spots covered. Questionables Larnach Wallner Julien Lee Miranda Lewis Martin and Kiriloff. I have some optimism about Larnach and Wallner as the league has seen them made adjustments and they have adapted. The rest are total questions in my mind. This group has two other common denominators: they are all subpar or worse fielders. Lee will eventually be good I think. They all are subpar or worse baserunners. Martin has sufficient speed but lacks instincts and judgement. The rest are just sleds. Kind of speaks to the profile of player they are drawn to. So we need to fill 5 spots in the everyday lineup from that group. Anybody feeling good about the chances that we find 5 productive players out of that group of 8? I think Falvey is going to make a couple trades ( right handed hitting outfielder, good lefty reliever, slugging first baseman?) and he is going to have to connect on all of them. 2025 is shaping up to be a do or die year for all involved.
  3. Yea I think there is another level of understanding still out there regarding analytics. I don’t have the answer but perhaps is a combination of data and human judgement or maybe it’s a greater understanding about the analytics themselves.
  4. That takes care of the condescending part…..
  5. Unless the FO changes their hitting philosophies changes like this don’t matter much. They will find another guy to try and deliver the same message in a different way.
  6. I don’t get too excited about stuff like this. They will hire someone that will advocate for the same ideas since the overarching baseball philosophies come from the FO.
  7. They inherited a good young lineup that was the basis for success in 17 and 19. The bigger question is who cares? Falvine will be entering their 9th season. The statute of limitations on blaming Terry Ryan has long since expired.
  8. It’s crazy how inept the whole Pohlad family is at public relations. All of the quotes are basically saying “yea you fans should just mind your own business “.
  9. This does not inspire confidence nor help their poor PR problems.
  10. I don’t know who those people are. I don’t recall anybody endorsing Rocco. Some of us are saying it doesn’t matter as much as others think it does. And if he was fired they would hire someone to manage in the same manner.
  11. I think this is pretty accurate. I’ve read that the analytics department creates a report for each game that includes things like optimal lineups pitcher and hitter tendencies and on and on. How much Rocco has to follow that I obviously have no idea. The one thing I feel pretty certain about is the managers job in baseball has changed a lot. As I have stated I would prefer a manager whose teams play clean baseball but I don’t even know how much of that is on Rocco. Regarding the question asked above of citing a reason that Rocco should stay - I don’t have one.
  12. Yea this almost certainly means the FO is coming back.
  13. Dan Hayes is reporting that Rocco is returning for next year. Anybody have a thought on this?
  14. I believe crime rates have returned to pre riot rates. I also think Minneapolis now has lower than average crime rates than other major cities. The perception remains because people base their opinions on anecdotal stories. I understand that if a person isn’t comfortable it’s certainly justified to not go downtown.
  15. Yea I second or third this notion. Who thinks fans enjoy a constant din of senseless noise.
  16. Another great article. His career stats were not as good as I remember. He was kind of a poor man’s Greg Maddux with that great sinker that moved like crazy.
  17. Love the part about getting cassettes mailed to you. I also felt Herb Carneal was part of the fabric of my kid years. I shed a tear when he died.
  18. This is one of the things I dislike the most about interactions on TD. “Ok man research this and show it to me man!” If you are so worked up about something do your own research to prove it wrong. There is no obligation for anybody to research anything for anybody else. This is a site where people offer commentary about baseball. It’s not the Smithsonian.
  19. I think this should be emphasized. People associate all kinds of negative attributes to failing. Failing to drive in runs is not some sort of character flaw or moral defect. I’m sure every one of those players were trying hard probably too hard.
  20. I think most managerial decisions are close to coin flips - anywhere from 50-50 to 60-40. Even if you make the “correct “ decision and are on the right side of the odds tails is going to come up plenty. Additionally there is never perfect information. I don’t like when he yanks a pitcher that is doing well and then the next night the starter gets lit up in the fifth. As far as leadership goes we have no idea. TV sound bites and dugout shots don’t indicate anything about the way he interacts with his players which mostly happens behind closed doors. I can take him or leave him because he is doing what the FO wants and the next guy is going to do the same stuff. The part that he should be roundly criticized is that his teams make lots of basic mistakes and nothing seems to be done about it. At some point that is on him.
  21. I have a few thoughts on this article. First is that judging anything on social media is a terrible way to come to any conclusion. This club has made some pretty big mistakes over the years. I mean when you threaten to move the franchise and then volunteer for contraction it kind of sets the tone. The Twins have shown an ability to screw up basic PR situations that is unique to them. They have consistently shown over the years that the bottom line is their priority before winning. And as stated above baseball was nearly unwatchable until the pitch clock. Do I love the Twins? Been a fan of only this club for almost 60 years. I live out-state so only go to a handful of games but pay a ridiculous amount of money for DirectTV so I can watch them. My question would be do the Twins love Minnesotans?
  22. Anybody who has been around as long as Max will become familiar and valued. Max seems like a nice guy. However Max is the definition of average. Let him tip his cap from the dugout and move on.
  23. And to answer the original question I think I want most of it to change. I would keep Maki as he seems to have extracted some good pitching results from a shallow pool. Since I don’t believe anything will change while Falvey is here I guess that’s me saying he should go. He’s not horrible but some of the organizations philosophies that aren’t working are never going to change if he is here.
  24. I also think the farm is overrated. Not necessarily from a talent standpoint but from a readiness standpoint. You make several good points. I would widen it out to players arrive that are really weak in basic fundamentals. Literally stuff that used to be taught in Legion ball and certainly should be mastered by the big leagues is absent from our call ups.
  25. I don’t think anyone outside the organization actually knows. I am going to pen a post later about some of these subjects and I’m just going to identify the problem and not who I guess is responsible.
