  1. Ok. Can we play clean for the rest of the game and let Joe keep bullpen participation to a minimum?
  2. Updating this list. Unfortunately it will be shorter. Hat tip to Brooks Lee for steady improvement. Also Clemens is showing he can be a good bench guy going forward. Taj is electric and a pleasant surprise. Honorable mention to Larnach and Jeffers who would be on the list if not on a different list.
  3. Really wish Buck would have went on the IL when he got hurt. They need him on the grass
  4. Joe got 5 outs that inning. Pretty good 😀
  5. In economics there is a theory called Opportunity Cost. It simply means what is the cost of making one choice over another. It’s usually measured in money but it’s apt for trades as well. I view both the Polanco and Berrios trades as likely sub par or inefficient in economic terms. The Opportunity cost of both trades is what could we have gotten in trade instead of what we received. Both players had value at the time of the trades. Im assuming the Twins had other offers for both players. If this is true its seems likely they didn’t pick the best option in either trade. Of course we don’t know what the other options were so I am guessing. In both cases it doesn’t matter how well Polanco or Berrios played after the trade; their value was what it was at the time of the trade. How they played after the trade is unrelated to their value on trade day. Trading either player was not a bad thing. It’s just likely the Twins didn’t get the best returns possible.
  6. I believe we are seeing the results (in part) of two of Falveys I’m the Smartest Guy in the Room theories. First, that slow, bad defenders that could hit was a market inefficiency. Turns out having good athletes that can run and field as well as hit are desirable. Second, that they skimp on starting pitching draft capital by drafting a bunch of late round college guys and use their magic powers to make them good big leaguers. Turns out that pitchers taken in the early rounds are usually better. Who knew? To be fair, Falvey did eventually go away from these two strategies but it took five or so years. We are living with that 5 year period where we didn’t really add talent to the organization. One reason I believe we have to trade Ryan and Jeffers is because this org needs a talent infusion. I know we have some good prospects but if you consider a reasonable attrition rate we don’t have enough. We literally need to upgrade every position except CF. Pitching wise our rotation is in decent shape if they stay healthy but the bullpen is in need of an overhaul and there is no pitching left in the upper minors - none. And if EmRod / Culpepper/ Jenkins fail, we will be in for a grim period of time.
  7. When the team is as flawed as the Twins are, there are going to be stretches like this. There will be some good weeks as well so I will still be watching but the reality is there is going to be some bleak stretches.
  8. You can slice it and dice it anyway you want. It doesn’t do a thing to make up for a lack of talent in the bullpen.
  9. There is no way Jeffers is signing an extension when he is this close to free agency. Not happening.
  10. This might have merit in the minors as a way to get relievers more innings. It has no place in the big leagues and doesn’t prepare them to be able to pitch on back to back days which is a necessity. The other thing that is stupid about the premise is that this secret strategy turns these AAAA pitchers into good big leaguers. With the exception of Rojas all these “bulk” guys wouldn’t be in a good bullpen.
  11. Funderburk predictably wild. I would keep SWR over Funday every day of the week.
  12. This is the most succinct summation of my feelings towards TV baseball coverage.
  13. These things usually work themselves out. First, Royce has to hit successfully in AAA then in the bigs. If this happens Lee can play second. Or maybe someone gets hurt to open a spot or maybe Lee regresses with the bat. Having two good hitting options at third would be a nice problem. We are not there yet.
  14. I would not make that trade. Not because I’m against trading Royce but those picks don’t move the needle for me. I would take the chance that Royce “finds it” rather than a pick that likely won’t amount to much.
  15. My view is the first option should be to trade Ryan at the deadline. And I’m not saying this based on money - I’m saying this because the Twins need a talent injection and trading Ryan is the most powerful way to do it. Here is a list of positions where the Twins don’t need an upgrade: CF. We have some promising prospects but not all are going to make it meaning we will still be short of the talent level required to be a top team. I referenced this as the first option because we have a choice. If we don’t get close to mlb talent of high ceiling in return then we simply don’t do it. We wait until the off season or next deadline or enjoy his pitching and give him the qualifying offer (if there is such a thing going forward). Bottom line is the right move could be trading Joe or hanging on to Joe depending on the return.
  16. Will be interesting to see the response from the players association. In the past, any proposed cap was DOA.
  17. I get it but I’m not worried about that right now. I think Rojas has the potential to be one of our better pitchers and don’t need to see him sidelined for 18 months with TJ.
  18. The most important aspect here is Rojas being hurt. Hopefully this isn’t serious but elbow pain is always scary. I think he was developing into a useful pitcher.
  19. I’m glad that Lee is improving with the bat. But right now he’s basically league average which is improvement but really illustrates where he was before.
  20. I think it proves what’s been true for 150 years: starting pitching is the most important factor in winning games. I have no idea what Falvey would have done but Zoll seems a bit more aggressive and decisive in his roster moves. I also like the way Shelton has managed the bullpen. The lineup is not great but they are playing better defense and they don’t rely on one or two guys to get the job done. Larnach and Martin stepping up gives them a legit outfield-maybe somehow the infield can do the same. I still think my 75 win projection is going to be accurate but I find myself watching every night - it’s been enjoyable.
  21. Gomez looks like he throws harder than he does.
  22. Buck had so much of a better jump on that compared to Keaschall. Almost ran him down
